Occult Items-what should I do with them?

I think most have seen my story and how I came to the Church.
I was baptized as a baby Catholic, but not raised Catholic, and God miraculously brought me out of witchcraft to the Church. I’m still in RCIA but I’m being ‘fast tracked’ to Confirmation and the Sacraments before Easter. My husband is still living the pagan type life.
I’ve had all sorts of bad stuff happen to me recently and I’m fairly certain that these things are a spiritual attack of some sort. Tonight while praying for another member it hit me… like a ton of bricks why I may still have this ickky stuff going on with me.
I still have all these occult items in my house… they are ‘put away’ (my stuff, not my husbands), but they are still here because I’m afraid my husband will freak if I get rid of them… we have A LOT of this stuff in the house… tarot cards, a handmade wand made by a ‘high priest’ that has a ‘spirit’ attached to it, crystals with ‘spirits’ attached to them, channeling boards, massive amounts of occult books (not put up) etc.
So I’m feeling really gross right now as it hit me all this stuff is still here even though most of it is out of sight except the books. I have this feeling of utter despair right now after praying and realizing this.
I know my husband will likely freak out, but I’m planning to burn all the books, channeling board, tarot cards and all burnable stuff on his next work day (Tuesday), maybe he won’t notice ~shrug~. My question is, what do I do with the stuff that’s not burnable, like the crystals and things?
FYI- if you’re pagan and ask me for this stuff, the answer will be no.

**I don’t want the answer I received from the exorcist lost in the thread, so for those who missed it due to all the responses. I’ll paste in what I put: **

Ok, I just got off the phone with the exorcist.
He is one of only 12 officially trained and recognized exorcist priests in the US, so I’m going with his recommendation. I also let him know that there is this thread here, which he was already aware of this forum.
He said what I should do with the items I have is either a) throw them in a lake or b) bury them. He said that the books can be burnt with the rest of my garbage (I live in the middle of nowhere just outside of city limits so I burn my garbage).
I have a lake near my house (actually two), so the heavy items I’m going to toss in the lake (or I’d have to dig a large hole lol), and the rest I’ll bury. He also said that I want to make sure that where ever I bury them or whatever lake I use, that it should be somewhere that nobody will find the items.
There you go… .a clear answer.
Hopefully, this thread will help others coming out of witchcraft into the Church

One of the reasons the early Fathers (and Mothers) went to live in the desert. They felt society was corrupt, the longer they lived there they feared the easier it would be to sin.

To be sure, Rachel, the items you used in the occult can be dangerous. Just as God can speak to us and shower us with His grace through His creation, so can the devil and his minions; indeed, that’s about all they can do. Unlike God, they can never create things, and so just use and pervert things that are already there.

When I first converted to Catholicism in 2004, I destroyed the handful of things I had. Some, I burned, and others, like my pentacle I shattered and disposed of in a nearby river. It’s not really that I was worried that my tools would be a danger to me, not exactly, so much as the fact that I needed the catharsis, and didn’t want the constant temptation to go back to my old practices. Which I did, anyway, but that’s another story. This time, upon reverting, I destroyed nothing - but I didn’t need to, since the things I was up do didn’t involve much reliance on props. In either case, though, whether you get rid of your tools etc or not, expect to be harassed. Those critters, they don’t give up their own so easily.

The good news, though, is that the battle has already been won - and Christ is in control. Nothing can tear you from His love, so just cling to Him in prayer and penance! I know you probably already know that, but the reminder is always nice, I think. I’ll be praying for you.

One of the saddest inroads made by secular/humanist based psychology into the Church is the influence it has to draw us away from theocentric belief into “The New Theology”: “Satan and evil do not exist”. I skipped the middle to save space, but I would like to make a point here that sometimes gets lost. I remember, in my youth, how SHOCKED I was when someone pointed out to me that when we speak in terms of God and the devil God is HUGE; for example Him standing up would reach to the stars whereas the devil would just be a teeny tiny speck at His feet. I had heard God vs devil for so long the perception then was that they were equals. It was mindblowing for me, so I just thought that I would share.

Angels and devils have the ability to manipulate things, but their power is but a tiny speck compared to Almighty God and always at his mercy.

I had a little episode into that field in my life… Afterwards I’d say my books and materials worked very well for fire starters or matched just fabulously with the other stuff in the trashcan. I would never attempt to sell something like that (to get my money back) and endangering another person with it…

I do believe that those items you have aren’t just junk and yes I would rid of them as soon as possible. When I was just 16 years old (I am now 36 sensible and in RCIA too) I was interested in the ouja board and used it many times with friends. They are definately the devils tools as I too have seen things happen. Birds in aviarys go bazerk, fires started on the floor, glasses smashed. They are a way into our life - through channelling. Indeed they are very scarey items and in the wrong hands even worst.

However I was advised never to ever burn such a board as it will leave evil enterties insitu with no way to leave. So do not burn it!!! Lucky I was scared out of it before it took hold of me… As an adult going through RCIA I feel so much closer to Christ and just adore the expanding parish family I now feel so much part of…

After seeing my husband defeat cancer off twice and seeing beautiful people in the hospital who were so ill help us through our battle, I have found my calling to Catholic Faith. These supportive people I do now know, are angels above because they were so close to death back then.

My two younger boys are altar boys, my husband Catholic at birth, my boys baptised catholic too…I want to become one…I agree that a house blessing with be very benificial to your home also…I am so glad you have seen the light and have heard the calling. Your future will be much brighter now…I just pray that your husband sees that too and leaves the darkness aside.

According to “Hoodoo in theory and practice by Catherine Yronwode”:

'If you have completely finished working with a given assortment of harming supplies and do not want them on your property at all, you may remove any left-over materials through disposal in crossroads or at a cemetery.
After casting a spell or laying a jinx with negative energies that have been directed against an enemy, it is the custom to cleanse oneself. THE MIRACULOUS EFFECTS OF THE MEDAL OF ST. BENEDICT IN THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY.
Though the medal of St. Benedict has been given to the faithful as a protection in the various necessities in which they may be at any time placed, yet as its use is only private, and almost always secret, we cannot be surprised that there has never been published an official account of the salutary effects it has produced. We are going, however, to mention some few facts which attested its powerful efficacy during the seventeenth century, the period of its first introduction into France. We take them from the pious and learned Bucelin, in his " Benedictus Redivivus " (Veldkirk, 1679, PP- 267-269).
The medal, which had become well known throughout Germany after the event at Nattremberg, passed into France through the province of Franche-Comtd.
In 1665, at Luxeuil in France, a young man possessed by the wicked spirit was most cruelly tormented. His parents had employed every means to free him from this state, but all had failed. In this extremity it came into their minds to have recourse to the medal of St. Benedict. They made their son drink some water into which they had dipped the medal. Scarcely had the boy raised the cup to his lips, than the devil began to torment his victim with such unusual violence, that the bystanders were struck with terror. The parents, however, were consoled by hearing the devil declare, by the mouth of their son, that he felt himself controlled by a superior power, and that he would go out of the boy at the third hour of the night. So in effect it happened : the infernal spirit went out at the time mentioned, and the boy was restored to peace of mind and health of body.
The following fact took place at Luxeuil about the same time. A young girl was irresistibly compelled by the wicked spirit to utter, at every turn, the most obscene words. One would have thought that the devil had taken up his abode on the lips of his victim. In order to free her from this violence of the enemy of every virtue, her friends gave her also, some water to , drink which had been sanctified by contact with the medal of St. Benedict. Immediately she felt herself freed from this wretched compulsion, nor did she ever after transgress in her words the rules of Christian modesty.
The same year, 1665, there was a man who had a sore on his arm, but so large and so inflamed, that no remedy seemed to have any effect on it. It was suggested that the next time the sore was dressed, there should be also tied on his arm a medal of St. Benedict. This was done, and the next day, on taking off the bandages, the sore was found to be in a healthy state, and after a few days was perfectly healed.

Or if you’re successful in convincing him to part with them, you could always have a yard sale, put them on e-bay, or just sit them out on the lawn under a sign that says “free.” I hate to see quality merchandise destroyed, especially books. Remember, these just inannimate objects. They can’t hurt you, unless someone deliberately put a curse on them, which I think is highly unlikely, seeing as how they’re just books and tools.

Trust me, once they’re no longer your property, you’ll feel a whole lot better.

I was glad to read that you said most of the occult items are now gone. they in and of themself have no power and can do no harm It is the power that we attach to them and the link to that which you have left that is the danger with them being there.

I would never advise anyone to leave their spouce. Pray for him daily. I would also if no one else has made this suggestion be saying the Prayer to ST. Michael the archangle and to my guardian angel as part of your daily prayers.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Make some protest art with the pieces. Take your art to a parish fundraiser or to your community summerfest. Protest art is popular.

I spent my late teen and early 20’s involved in the occult. What I did to get rid of all the books/items was box it all up and pour veggie oil over everything. Then tape it up and cover it with trash bags and regular trash. It is my hope that this was sufficiently icky enough to keep anyone from getting a hold of the materials and trying to use them.

Veggie oil and or Olive Oil mixed up with some food coloring does not put many people off or give them the icky factor.

There is a televangelist who hawks that stuff as the Blood of Jesus and he’s a hit!

So, maybe you should have just done protest art, or used it in talks at your church in youth gatherings like theology on tap or something? To show the kids what stuff you ended up getting involved in at that time in your life and why you find it useless now.

I do pray for him daily as well as the rest of my family, and he knows it. I see God working in him in small ways so I know I’m being heard
I also have to say you live rather close to where I live… cool I just think it’s neat when I find someone on these boards that lives near me lol
