I think most have seen my story and how I came to the Church.
I was baptized as a baby Catholic, but not raised Catholic, and God miraculously brought me out of witchcraft to the Church. I’m still in RCIA but I’m being ‘fast tracked’ to Confirmation and the Sacraments before Easter. My husband is still living the pagan type life.
I’ve had all sorts of bad stuff happen to me recently and I’m fairly certain that these things are a spiritual attack of some sort. Tonight while praying for another member it hit me… like a ton of bricks why I may still have this ickky stuff going on with me.
I still have all these occult items in my house… they are ‘put away’ (my stuff, not my husbands), but they are still here because I’m afraid my husband will freak if I get rid of them… we have A LOT of this stuff in the house… tarot cards, a handmade wand made by a ‘high priest’ that has a ‘spirit’ attached to it, crystals with ‘spirits’ attached to them, channeling boards, massive amounts of occult books (not put up) etc.
So I’m feeling really gross right now as it hit me all this stuff is still here even though most of it is out of sight except the books. I have this feeling of utter despair right now after praying and realizing this.
I know my husband will likely freak out, but I’m planning to burn all the books, channeling board, tarot cards and all burnable stuff on his next work day (Tuesday), maybe he won’t notice ~shrug~. My question is, what do I do with the stuff that’s not burnable, like the crystals and things?
FYI- if you’re pagan and ask me for this stuff, the answer will be no.

Maybe I put this in the wrong place? If so, can a moderator please move it? It’s not showing I can move it or edit it at this point.
Ugh, I can’t wait to get these things out of my house, and I don’t care how much of a fit my husband throws. Maybe I’m wrong in not caring about him throwing a fit, but I just feel really ickky right now.

All of that stuff you have is just junk. It has no power to bring good fortune or bad. So just toss it. That stuff is powerless and meaningless. It’s merely pieces of paper, wood, plastic, etc.

God doesn’t attack people, even those who have silly cards in a drawer, so God is not picking on your for having this stuff. If you’re having a bad time of it, and you think there is a specific reason, look for the real cause. But sometimes stuff just happens. Bad things happening to good people and such.

Smash what you can by dropping it rather forcefully into an industrial bin. All you really need to do is make sure the stuff is dumped where it’s not likely to be picked up by somebody else, even scavengers.

Some years ago I was walking through a shopping centre, and a young bloke had a table of this sort of stuff set up as both a stall and recruiting centre. As I walked past he grinned at me rather unpleasantly, but when I looked at his eyes, there seemed to be layer upon layer of spiritual entities staring back at me.

He had a major problem, although he didn’t realise it.

Get rid of it by dumping it. If it’s breakable, break it first. Otherwise just dispose of it where it can’t be scavenged.

Gods not attacking Rachel, but someone far less pleasant might be. That type doesnt like being told to clear off. Some folks imagine they can see the demonic under every second blade of grass, but dealing in the occult is asking for trouble. The “junk” isn`t necessarily “just” junk. Fr. Corapi could tell you a few things.

Burning everything that can be burnt sounds like a great idea.

Rachel:
Could you sneak in a priest to give your house a blessing?

Bob:
Got a nasty feeling i saw something similar. Disturbing to think about it.

If it won’t burn, smash it with a hammer, if possible and throw out the bits.

If it’s metal and won’t smash, just throw it out.

Hello,
Code:
I have some experience that you can draw on any time you need to. Anything that can be torn & thrown out do so if not I'd suggest burying the rest somewhere discrete - Do not burn the items!
You are in a tough situation given that your husband is still in "that world " pray for his conversion to the Blessed Mother Mary with the Rosary & wear the Miraculous Medal at all times; get it Blessed by a Priest.
Now here’s the really tough part…if he doesn’t see the truth you have to leave him till he does or get an annulment if he doesn’t.
I will include you in my prayers…you can get through this, once you take the steps you need, Divine help will lead you the rest of the way-but you must take action first.

do it, but do it safely and according to laws in your area on burning, but just your stuff. something not burnable can be buried or crushed or dismantled and sent to recycling.

But this is not addressing the underlying issue, you want to be a practicing Catholic tied in marriage to a pagan–by that word I assume you mean someone actually pursuing a path that involves these influences, not someone is who a non-believer. You need pastoral counseling on this and you need it now before you get fast-tracked anywhere. Please make this appointment with the pastor, or another priest if he is not available, today.

You need help in confronting your husband and telling him what you will no longer be party to, and what you will no longer allow in the house you share, and how your conversion is going to inevitably affect him as you change your own manner of living.

If there are children involved this is even more critical.

One note, and this is true for almost everyone approaching the sacraments, the closer you get, the more the enemy steps up his attack. That is why the RCIA actually includes minor exorcisms–prayers for protection and strength–as a formal part of the process. Ask the priest for advice on prayer and defense when you speak with him.

Any item that is " charged " DO NOT BURN bury the crystals DO NOT SMASH them

Sorry to be so emphatic about this but unfortunately I know what I’m talking about.

I’m no lawyer but I hope you folks don’t mind me asking: Whose property are those things? Pagan, occult, or not, it’s not exactly a good idea to be smashing other people’s stuff, especially behind their backs.

You could get charged for property damage and setting yourself up for a divorce if you do anything like that.

The post says the " stuff " is her’s not her husband’s.
Sorry, no offense to the OP but I have difficulty reading stuff that’s not well… organized. :o

Still, why would her husband freak out if you got rid of that stuff? If they mean so much value to him, just give it to him then. 🤷

There are differing opinions on what to do with items like these. Whatever diocese you belong to there is a clergy member assigned the task of exorcist. A topic not talked about very much but it most definitely is addressed by the Church, because the occult and demonic possession of items and people is real.

Our diocese it is a deacon. Either way it is someone who has been directed with the authority designated by the bishop to handle the 'casting out" duties.

Check with your diocese, they will not look at you as though you are stupid they will direct you to help.

To believe that these issues are not real or do not exist is why so many don’t make changes in their lives. You play into the enemies hands when you don’t recognize he exits!

I sort of disagree, through it Satan and the world can turn you from God. So it’s not powerless in this regard. More over, given what is going on in her life, I think it would be appropriate to burn it. I beleive that watching these occult objects being consumed in fire might well offer some sense of closure to her past life.

I would recommend this course for the OP… And hey, who knows… Maybe it will cause her husband to start reexamining his own beliefs?

You are right to be concerned, it sounds like you are under attack by the forces that you previously welcomed into you life, they don’t like to lose a member. You might consider reading one of Michael Brown’s earlier books. He was a reported that used to cover the occult, and had a few upsetting experiences himself, this was part of his journey back to his Catholic faith as well.

I assume, since you are in RCIA and ‘fastracked’ that you are have a priest as spiritual advisor during this. If not, I’d recommend this in your situation. Being married to someone who is not Catholic can be very, very difficult (I am) being married to someone who is involved in the Occult will be much more so.

As to the comment that these are just “things” with no power, I respectfully disagree. I believe, as Mr. Brown does, that angels can manipulate physical things in the world, hot people, but things. This must be true, then, for fallen angels, right? Am I obsessed with this idea, nope, simply aware that this exists.

I think burning is an excellent idea, but it sounds like someone more experienced than I advising differently. My first step would be to talk to my priest, maybe he can bless the items and then you can dispose of them. If it were me, just for therapeutic effect, I would smash and trash. Sounds fun! Nice way to put it all behind you.

Regardless, if the presence of these things bother you, you are right to resolve this … even if it is only to put this whole issue out of your mind, no?

and, most important, “Welcome Back!”. It is wonderful to have you! :hug3:

Yes this is the other option- then they have no " power ".

I’m wondering this, too, and with blanket statements and proclamations, I would generally prefer a bit of more information.

Inquiring minds want to know! 😃

I do know from reading about this stuff a decade ago, that spirits can transfer from person to physical item, etc. If they are exorcised from a person for example, they can supposedly attach to a physical item until another person comes along. So, I can see where burning in the back yard might make them permanent residents. Not what the OP trying to accomplish 😦

I’m sure no expert. I DO have a very healthy respect for what the devil is capable of. I’d be talking with a priest who would be able to exorcise.

If the OP could please post the answer when this is resolved, I’d be very grateful and it might help others who come here later.

Just another perspective -

I’m assuming from your initial post “…my husband will freak…” that your husband has not shared your recent conversion…

Tread softly. Your changed religious views don’t give you the right to infringe on his religious views. You can ask discuss with him what to do with the items in question, but to take unilateral action might be precipitous. You and he entered the marriage with the understanding that your religious ideas would not change. Now, however, you have changed. Not him.

And just FYI, I’m in the opposite situation. I de-converted away from Catholicism about two years ago. I firmly understand that I’m the one that changed and have not removed the religious artwork that we have in the house (icon’s, crucifixes, etc, even though they are most definitely “mine”).

On the other hand, by burying the items, (which she could presuumably only do on her own property) they are still around, and whatever spirits they contain would still be there.

In Scripture, burning does seem to be the proper way of getting rid of pagan objects. I agree, if possible, she should ask a priest or better yet, the bishop.
