Okay so my friend’s mother has a drawer full of occult things; crystal ball, sage for burning, cards, etc. I told her how bad it was and how she needs to get rid of it. I don’t partake in that kind of stuff (and apparently she doesn’t either, she said she hasn’t opened the drawer in years). She said she’s still a Catholic. I told her to call a priest and he will dispose of it and bless the house. But even if she doesn’t, is it still okay for me to come over and visit?

It’s probably okay for you to still visit, as long as she isn’t actively involved in the stuff and doesn’t try to push it on you. She may have just gone through a phase when she was younger and just never bothered to throw the stuff out.

Wear a blessed Crucifix (and perhaps a St Benedict medal that is blessed according to the proper form). Maybe discreetly sprinkle Holy Water. 🙂

That’s exactly it. She doesn’t do it and she knows I’m very much against it. But she doesn’t do it anymore she said and didn’t even open the drawer in years.

I almost always wear a Crucifix 🙂 Sometimes but very rarely I wear a St. Simon the Zealot (the Apostle) medal. But I was wearing one tonight and I walked into the next room when she pulled the stuff out! It came up in conversation and her friend opened the drawer and tried to throw it away but she said she had to bury it. I told her to give it to a priest instead, and not to give it more power than it really has.

I would not suggest burying it. You may want to burying holy objects but, you want the demonic objects as far away from you as possible.

Keep praying for her. It could be the demons connected with that stuff that keeps her from disposing of it. 🙂
Eghh, I don’t want to touch it. I told her I could get my priest to come by.
That is understandable.

My understanding is that such things need to be burned in order to be completely destroyed. I agree with the others in that the only way you would be in danger is if she was actively using them when you came over and you knew what she was planning to do. Pray for her and all those caught in the snares of the demons.

Amen to that

Well, ultimately it is all up to her what she wants to do with it.

It would be good for everyone if she decided to burn it or give it to a priest to dispose of it. I wouldn’t bury it as it could just be dug back up or found by some one else someday. It probably won’t hurt anyone, but still, why have it around? Why not purge your house of it?

I’ll be praying! Thanks for the help

Isn’t that superstitious? Why wouldn’t God protect him/her just as much if he/she simply prayed for protection?

In that case, what does one use Holy Water for when fighting demons? Why do demons flee at the sign of the Cross?

Is this also superstition?

‎"…so without this word never enter the market-place, but when thou art about to pass over the threshold of the gateway, say this word first: I leave thy ranks, Satan, and thy pomp, and thy service, and I join the ranks of Christ. And never go forth without this word." - St John Chrysostom, Doctor of the Church

“If we are striving to drive out demons, we use the Cross, and it is also of aid in healing sickness.” - St John Chrysostom, Doctor of the Church

What about all that is used in the Rite of Exorcism?

I don’t know. Why would God need man-made objects in order to work his will? Or, why would God’s will be altered by the presence of man-made objects?

Finally, what is superstition? If superstition is not the idea that man-made objects can be imbued with magical powers, then what is superstition exactly?

Why does God require baptism to join the Body of Christ? God uses physical things. Demons are afraid of certain things.

I was over at a relatives house a couple of Halloweens in a row when they brought out an Ouija board. I didnt use it although I was present and my cousin takes it quite seriously I noticed. I didn’t know these were dangerous at the time. Am I in spiritual danger or prone to attacks? I wouldn’t think so as that would circumvent my free will as I had no desire or intention to play with it, right?

When was the last time this happened? Have you noticed anything since? If not. I wouldn’t get too nervous. Remember, Jesus casted out demons, God is infinitely more powerful than demons.

My understanding is that certain objects can be cursed. This simply means an object is legally claimed by a demon or demons. Depending on the state of grace of someone who comes in contact with the object and what they do with it, the demon may be able to harass the individual. For instance I had in possesion a pamphlet from a new age ‘Unity’ church that seemed pretty inocuous. We had tried to throw away and burn all new age stuff we had after reverting to Catholicism but we missed that item. Both my wife and I noticed some minor weird things happening. We both independantly saw an apparition at different times of a ugly old witch which we collaborated later. When we discovered the paphlet I prayed to bind the demons in Jesus’s name and burned it. The weird things immediately stopped. I know its creepy and bizarre, but I’ve experienced these things firsthand. Get rid of these items as soon as possible and burn them if you can.
