I guess so! She gives me these worksheets and I have to track my obsessions, compulsions, and my SUDS. It’s helpful to know about them honestly. It gives the stress a number a workable level that can be brought down and up. If you ever decide to try ERP, I recommend it!
Well, she’d probably have you look in the mirror on purpose. Try not to do ERP on your own though because it is very distressing. Also, it has to be done in grades. So when I first stared she kind of made a list of my obsessions and the level of SUDS assigned to each. We started doing exposures with the ones that cause me the less distress and slowly work our way to the leve 100 SUDS exposures. But I think she would have you look in the mirror and she would try to be the voice of the OCD. Like, for example when we watch a movie I tell her “ that part distresses me because I get a thought that tells me that I enjoy seeing him/hurt but I don’t “. She’ll replay the part in the movie over and over and she’ll say things like “ I think you’re lying. I think you’re really enjoying watching this person in pain but you just want me to believe it bothers you.” Or “ I think you’re lying to yourself. You just want to make yourself believe you don’t want to hurt anyone”. My job is to say “ Maybe you’re right. Maybe I do, I don’t know” and to monitor my SUDS until they go down, but they have to go up first. They have to go wayyyy up before they go down. This is why it’s exhausting and distressing. I think she’d have you look in the mirror and tell you what your OCD is telling you, but I don’t know. I know she told me she had a person with contamination OCD eat cereal off of the floor with her. It’s pretty insane.
The worst are intrusive thoughts about impurity. Not only is it fighting with obsessive thoughts, but also it may tempt you to fall. Its horrible. I cant even look at women in normal way because I get very bad thoughts.
I must admit, but Im really ashamed, that I felt uncomfortable with children few times. If I told someone, they would probably be shocked.
I also have blasphemous thoughts. They are rare but still atack me.
I think that would be good! If you were doing ERP I think they would straigh up drop a bunch of an item and you’d have to eat them no matter what amount of time goes by! But yes! I do remember that duke from elementary school!
You see I don’t know if you saw the link I shared about POCD. I have it, and part of my therapy is talking to people about it. I know thoughts about children are extremely distressing and painful, but when these things are unwanted and painful, they are not dangerous. You see, I know for a fact that I don’t wan to hurt a child. I also know that I like men, men with beards !Its just the anxiety ( in my case OCD lying to us). These intrusive thoughts are more common than you know. Read about it and see if it’s what you’re going through. It gets better.
Pedophilia OCD, or POCD, is a subset of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in which a person experiences unwanted intrusive thoughts about harming children.
Yes, she told me it’s meant to have the horror movie effect. Like, if you watch the same horror movie over and over for several weeks eventually you’ll stop reacting. The point of ERP is to expose you to the fear, while preventing a response like praying, counting, or washing, to expose you as much as possible to the anxiety so that eventually you’ll just stop reacting ( or the reactions becomes greatly reduced).
I think I dont have problems with this pocd. I dont know now. I dont have thoughts about harming children. No!
But I felt uncomfortable one or two times in that situation.
I dont know what Im typing,
Also obsessive thoughts about others sins. Like someone says something not nice or does sth bad, I had some thoughts that they are worse, they arent ideal, that I dont lik them. But its not true!
It’s anxiety, and intrusive thoughts tend to go against the things that you value the most. You value purity so they will go against that. Learning to face the anxiety will help you to stop reacting to the thoughts. Don’t worry, God knows your heart and will help you. The devil does like to use our anxiety and such against us mainly to distress us. Have you ever talked to a priest of professional about this?
I just want to make it clear that I don’t want this! I am not in any way attracted to children and that I don’t want or enjoy any of these thoughts! These thoughts are just as intrusive and painful as the blasphemy and other kinds! You have what is called HOCD ( harm OCD)
Harm OCD is a subset of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in which a person experiences constant intrusive thoughts about harming themselves or other people.
The trusting part would be the part that is good for overcoming the obsession. Like, maybe count it only once and then leave it at that. Also, it’s important not to dwell on the thoughts about people maybe causing conflict. Say something like “ Maybe someone will think I counted wrong, maybe they won’t. I don’t know”.
Yes! OCD is all “ I know I don’t want to do it, but I’m afraid I’ll lose control and do something I absolutely am terrified of”. I have HOCD too, on top of about two others. Hand washing and cleaning OCD is called “ Contamination OCD”
Contamination OCD is a subset of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in which a person experiences intense fears about being contaminated by germs or diseases.
I have it too On that website, if you push the drop down, it had info on all the forms of OCD ( even the one we have about weight)! Here’s a list of all the forms
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
And you see, I also have Responsibility OCD and Religious OCD so this comes together with my other forms to give me horrible guilt. I’ve even gotten fevers and panic attacks because of the guilt. I also have this thing called “ Real event OCD” so mistakes I’ve made give me a heavy load of guilt.
