Finals must be over.
Nope, they’ve been done for several weeks. I’ve turned my back on forums in general, in order to study and focus on my vocation.

If I am to be used in the service of Holy Mother Church, I must train and study in order to become the best servant I can be. I cannot do so while wasting my time here.

You’ll be seeing less of me, which is great, because I’ll be seeing less of you. 👍

In any case, rest peacefully knowing that it is men like me who will be filling up the seminaries 👍

 😃 🙂 👍 👍

Words sure to warm the hearts of Catholics everywhere.

Men like you?

Freshman88, always remember that pride goes before a fall.

I would like to see humble and contrite men enter God’s service, men who are convinced that they have absolutely nothing to offer God or man except their willingness to be poured out as an offering for the Lord.

I would like to see men enter the Lord’s service who would never dream of boasting to an internet crowd about being “men like me.”

God willing you will be ordained or enter whatever vocation you have been chosen by the Lord. Hopefully before then you will discover that many real people, real Catholics who love the Lord, will not bend to your will.

I play piano in several parishes, and I know that most of the elderly people I know love the NO Mass and have no liking for TLM. I also know a lot of teenagers, and they don’t have any desire to go back to TLM. We have had a TLM in our city since the mid-1980s); when I drove by on Sunday, the parking lot had about three cars.

Perhaps you think you can change all this around. People cannot be molded like play-dough. People are who they are. You have to meet them and serve them as they are, not as you wish them to be.

Perhaps the Holy Spirit will work through you to bring about changes. And perhaps not. It is His Will, not yours.

This is definitely true. However, it would seem that the Holy Spirit is inspiring seminarians with very traditional values.

So, it would seem that Freshman is claiming that he will be part of this wave of traditional future seminarians. Not by his own grace but by the power of the Holy Spirit.

In short, progressives beware. 😉

Not particularly pining for a return of the TLM does not make one a “progressive”, especially in the disdainful way apparently intended.

Plenty of us are traditional Catholics. But one of our most recognized traditions is our obedience, not our self-serving, know-it-all rebellion.

Like it or not, the Church as in life, can’t go back to the good ol’ days (assuming they really WERE all that good). Time only moves forward. How we move forward today will determine the success of our tomorrow.

You’re right, the Pope has been handed a blank check to do as he pleases. But somewhere in there there should be a pastoral concern for Christ’s sheep, don’t you think?
This statement has a tone much like people who don’t have kids, but know they would be perfect parents, with perfect kids, if they did. 😉 😃

The Pope has the same “blank check” we parents have. It is called authority, and none of us who hope to be faithful in our vocations use it to do as we please, in spite of what our “betters” may think.

Keep that in mind, and please show some respect and gratitude.

I agree. What’s your point?

So, wanting the Extraordinary form and loving the traditions of the Church is somehow disobedient, “self-serving and know-it-all” rebellion?

Outrageous.

Our faith is something that is* recieved*, not something that is fabricated to suit the whims of modern society. If we reject this beautiful faith we have recieved in Tradition and tradition, then “progress” is impossible.

As I have stated in previous posts, it seems you have an agenda and are determined to attack and misrepresent any position from anyone you percieve to be “traditionalist.”

Your intentions of defending Holy Mother Church are admirable but I think, unfortunately, you come across simply as aggressive and ignorant.

In the love of Our Lord,

Actually, it works both ways. Unfortunately there is a far larger class of “us” on the modernists’ side.

No, but it would still be nice to know that we are on the right track to Heaven.

It’s almost shocking to hear someone (who claims to be Catholic?), implying that the Pope lacks a pastoral concern for Christ’s sheep. Almost shocking because I’ve seen far worse accusations in this forum. I am an OF supporter. I am an EF supporter.

Now what? Take me out and shoot me?

I for one appreciate ethelzguy’s posts. As a fairly new convert to Catholicism from evangelical Protestantism, I am often upset at how some “traditionalists” on this forum insist that the NO is inferior, that various Popes have made mistakes in allowing the NO, that various newer practices are not fully Catholics, etc.

Sometimes when I try to defend these things, I get the impression that I should just shut up because I’m a newbie and don’t know what I’m talking about. At least once someone told me (not in these exact words) that I should leave my Protestant things behind now that I am a Catholic.

These responses are hurtful to me.

So it’s encouraging when someone like ethelzguy, a cradle Catholic, defends the NO and the new practices.

And if he sounds a bit crotchety at times, well, it is very difficult to remain perfectly calm when others are calling the Pope a heretic, the Church “in crisis,” the NO inferior, and any Catholic who isn’t TLM all-the-way “fallen away.”

I’m guessing that by the time you are in the seminary for a week you will quickly realize that it is full of men with far more to offer than you have.

As far as seeing less of us goes, I won’t argue with you on the point that this place is a poor use of time. Remember, though, that a man who doesn’t like hanging around sick people should really stay out of medicine! 😉

In the meantime, I can rest peacefully. Your heart is in the right place, and it is good that you are so eager to serve. Once the Holy Spirit is done with you, you’ll either be a good priest, or else no priest at all, but I have no doubt that you will advance in holiness and maturity. 👍

Yah, ignorant, that’s it…just ignorant and obedient to the HMC. 👍

Oh yes, because you clearly know the nature of my vocation. Do tell me why I believe I am called to be a priest?

Good thing I haven’t signed up for medical school ;).

Men like you?
It is well known that is traditional/conservative minded men who are being attracted to the priesthood.
Freshman88, always remember that pride goes before a fall.
I hope you are not suggesting that I am being prideful.
I would like to see humble and contrite men enter God’s service, men who are convinced that they have absolutely nothing to offer God or man except their willingness to be poured out as an offering for the Lord.
I only wish to serve Holy Mother Church, wherever that will take me. I am becoming more certain that it is within the priesthood.
I would like to see men enter the Lord’s service who would never dream of boasting to an internet crowd about being “men like me.”
It is a fact, men like me, that is, traditional and conservative minded Catholics are signing up for the priesthood.

My goodness, why would I want anyone to bend to my will?

That’s wonderful cat, but what does that have to do with me?
Perhaps you think you can change all this around.
Brining more people to God and his most holy Church in order to save souls. That is what drives me to be a priest.
People cannot be molded like play-dough. People are who they are. You have to meet them and serve them as they are, not as you wish them to be.
I disagree. Yes Christ accepted Mary Magdalene, but he did not meet her as a whore, but as a child of God.
It is His Will, not yours.
Amen.

I hope one of the first things they teach you is that no where in scripture does it say Mary Magdalene was a whore.

Who said I was relying on scripture?

I’m well aware of the debate that goes on over St. Mary Magdalene. I personally subscribe to the tradition that she was a horrible sinner at one point even being a prostitute.
