I was quite surprised when I went to the Good Friday service at my parish today.

Everything seemed to follow the missal until time for Holy Communion: they brought out the ciborium from the back sacristy, along with a pitcher of the Precious Blood! It was then poured and distributed (by numerous Extraordinary Ministers of HC) as if it were a Mass.

Is there any provision for this? I thought it was required that only the hosts can be reserved after any Holy Mass, but I want to be sure before I – once again – have to say something at this parish.

You are correct. The Precious Blood cannot be reserved in the tabernacle.

There is an exception for reserving the Blood for those who are unable to receive the Host, but this is a rare exception and shouldn’t be done beyond those few - it was not intended for the entire parish.

Not to mention that, per Redemptionis Sacramentum 106 below, it’s forbidden to pour the Precious Blood. It must be consecrated in the vessel from which it will be distributed.
[106.] However, the pouring of the Blood of Christ after the consecration from one vessel to another is completely to be avoided, lest anything should happen that would be to the detriment of so great a mystery. Never to be used for containing the Blood of the Lord are flagons, bowls, or other vessels that are not fully in accord with the established norms

For completeness, it is also not permissible to consecrate either species of the Eucharist outside of Mass, to hold Mass on Good Friday or to distribute unconsecrated wine.

This is 100% an abuse. Incredible. Never even heard of such a thing. Someone thinks they know better than the Church.

Just as I thought.
So – once again – I will probably be the only one who says anything to the pastor.
