I never considered that, but your right. I would assume that it would give you more control over your funds as opposed to a company-sponsored 401.k
The nice thing about a company sponsored 401K is that usually the company matches your contribution by a certain percentage.

I keep trying to get my bosses to do one, but so far, no luck.

Unions are monopolies. They skew free-market checks and balances.
They ensure that ‘the market’ doesn’t destroy the may in favor of the few…The 'market needs to be controlled,IMO…or slavery will result.

Wow. Clinton did have a GOP Congress after '94, but the dotcom bubble which occurred under the Sleaze in Chief will never be repeated.
SC, if you haven’t noticed, $1.4T deficits are larger than $200B deficits. The game is over, and if you want to give our posterity any chance of surviving in freedom, the radical leftist administration MUST be defeated. Obama is the most corrupt man ever to enter the WH. Solyndra is the tip of a deadly crony capitalist iceberg. Cash for clunkers, and its concomitant destruction of perfectly good autos, has resulted in used cars costing poor families THOUSANDS more for them. The shutdown of the Gulf and closing of coal mines have spiked energy costs and thrown tens of thousands out of work. He closed car dealerships that were still profitable! (Tyranny, methinks!) Lord, the arrogant ruler buzzed New York City! His endless vacations have cost billions and wasted millions of gallons of fuel. Did you know that he and Michelle fly separately?
Anyone who supports BHO after three years simply doesn’t want to know the truth. Rob
"the most corrupt man it the whitehouse’ is just an opinion…I would think Reagan and Bush were corrupt. They made no secret that they chose to serve the minority, no mattrer what happened to the majority.

Scott, I’m sure that those Ohio chumps who believe that the beleaguered elitists in the taxpayer sector can be nourished endlessly by an empty private trough will be foolish enough to feed hay to fence-less wolves one day. :o Rob
The work will still be there even if they get rid of the unions…Then we will all just pay higher fees on top of tax subsidies for whoever in the private sector takes over…the few will benefit…an all the other working class payrates and benefits will go down…and then we will also have to pay tax money for those who get the bids who do not pay enough…for their employees needs…healthcare…maybe rent…foodstamps…the only one who wins if the unions are broken…are the guys who helped organize against the unions, and who most probablly get them gov’t contracts…everybody else losses…There is no gaurentee that taxes wil, decrease…only that unions will be busted…and that isn’t good for the majority for their wages ‘trickle down’ to their non union counterparts (which will also drop) faster than the wealthy’s surplus has trickled since they lost the election to Obama. And with all that pay decreasing going on…so too will the property values decrease…IMO.

unless, of course, the NLRB prevents businesses from relocation to Virginia, much like they are doing to South Carolina.
Only if they break the law. Which is exactlly what Boeing did. They broke the law.

The billionaire corporations had no dog in this fight. The unions did.
The Koch Brithers (corporations) finance Americans For Prosperity…which lobbied for this kind of attacks on the unions…my thoiughts are that they want the jobs which the unions have…that is their dog…they want the gov’t pay instead of the unions getting it…

Yup, Democracy is when two wolves and a sheep vote on what to have for lunch.
The sheep in that scenario ussually don’t care about the vote…because he has arangements with those who bought the food…and knows he’lll get what he wants anyways.

No lefty here wants to broach my contention that thanks to government unions, thousands of good, decent people are negotiated out of their homes! The enemy is not some greedy capitalist, but those of us who are elderly and can’t afford one nickel more in property taxes. To the SEIU’s of the world, let the poor and the infirm of the world eat cake. The greed is all on the side of the government unions. 😊 Rob
Did you have any businesses move into your area…and were allowed to pay no taxes…Was anything done with your local tax budget to accomidate new bsinesess? Such as things that cost lots of money? Because the latest trend is that in order to attrct business…localities give huge deals and use your tax money to build thiungs for that business…enormous costs sometimes…and the businesses sometimes pay nothing…and you may be picking up the tab. And if they contributed…it would be alot easier for you…and them* nasty* pension plans. would suggest the book "free Lunch’ by a guy name david cay johnson…to see how the righty’s rip you off too…for millions…and then the blame gets shifted to the unions.

I would beleive that the people who voted…probablly work…and pay taxes too…They just felt it wrong to treat public employees as slaves and strip their collective bargaining rights.
What kind of an example does a state set…which strips it’s own employees of their rights? They are not elected, nor are they volunteers, nor are they slaves…they are employees…and all employees should have the right to collective bargaining…not just…some. The slave owners lost the civil war…That seems better…It wasn’t won so that our own state employees should be treated with less rights than the private sector.

They ensure that ‘the market’ doesn’t destroy the may in favor of the few…The 'market needs to be controlled,IMO…or slavery will result.
They have been rigorously trying to control the market and look at what we have. The “few” are not only rich, but now they have congress and the Presidency in their pocket. Good job. 👍

Please define for me what an “attack on the unions” means, because it sound like a talking point that you don’t really understand yourself. And “unions” don’t own jobs, companies own jobs. Unions simply represent the right of the employees to unite their voice for increase bargaining power with the employer. Public sector employees should have no right to unionize, because it creates a labor monopoly without any chance for competition, plus the fact that the PE unions lobby DEmocrats to give them more power and benefits, at the expense of the taxpayer, creating a vicious cycle in which the taxpayer is perpetually screwed.

What are you talking about? On average, public sector employees make WAY more than their private sector counterparts, plus get benefits packages that the private sector could only hope for.

Simply put…if they are an employee…they are eual…they have skills and degrees and choose to use them at the gov’t job…and they have a right to bargain collectivelly as employees. And businessen also use their money to lobby to get rid of the unions, take their jobs…and the taxpayers will still pay them…do you consider that theft to? For the work will remain, wehter or not the unions stay…and it will cost tax money. And in my opinion…those taxes will not drop…and the taxpayers will not only have the same, if not more taxes…they may also have to pay fees. for them services…IMO, it is a scam on taxpayers at a cost to the working class…and all the rest of the taxpayers…but the working class will take the biggest hit…because it will trickle down…all the pay and bennies of their trades will be 'trickled down"…throughout the towns, states, and country.

They do not have them in their pockets as much as their oppostition does., nor have they since carter…that’s a long time of feeling sorry for the rich…and changing laws all in their favor…40 years…to end up with this mess.

Why should a unionized public service employees be afforded salaries and benefits that the taxpayers themselves don’t have?

What are you talking about? On average, public sector employees make WAY more than their private sector counterparts**, plus get benefits packages that the private sector could only hope for.**
Instead of being jealous…one should join a union and be a good capitalist and capitalise.
They do not make more than the guys in their trade in the private sector in all things…I am a truck driver…and the public union truck driver does not make as much as me. Matter of fact they sometimes work with us PT to make ends meet.

The common argument to say to the workers who are not makking much would be to say…do the same as the rich guy does…
I would say…isntead of being jealous of union pay and bennies…if you want it…all you have to do is join the union.
Jealous of their lobby? Join the union and you can have a say in what that lobby wants.
