A picture of a child (who later became Pope) posing in a re-enactment of a Mass is not the same thing as someone snapping photos during an actual Mass.Can’t now. I don’t have access to the books now, and take your word on it they were re-enactment photos. I really don’t know if they were or not.
I personally would not take photos in a church, unless it was before or after the Mass.
It would be helpful to believers if these things were clear from the start so no one would even have to ask about this. It could be in the missalette along with who can recieve and who can not stuff right in the front (not that all people will read it, but it would help)

Yes, but not “amazing” in the tourist-attraction “I was there” sense of the word, but rather, in the sense of “your Creator would like an accounting of how you have spent your life up to this point” sense of the word.
We photograph the Grand Canyon and Mickey Mouse because they are amazing things that actually don’t relate to us in any way. Pictures are how we prove we were there.
Trust me, you will remember meeting Jesus, without the aid of a photograph.

I think many people would - probably with their cell phone cameras. Then many of them would quickly send that photo to all their contacts! Alas, I do not have a camera on my cell phone…I do not even take my cell phone into church. In fact, I have only taken my camera into church to take photos during mass AT THE REQUEST OF 3 DIFFERENT PRIESTS over the years. So, sadly, I would probably not even get that photo, since I generally do not have my camera with me at every mass.
Sheesh, people, it’s not like it’s a regular thing!
Again, since 3 different PRIESTS at different points have requested this of me, I think it is safe to say picture taking during mass was OK with these priests. It’s not like I “snuck” them!

I think if it came to the real thing, most people would not be taking pictures, because there wouldn’t be any “rock star” or “tourist attraction” aspect to the event.About what? That I would take a picture of Jesus?

Nobody would be saying “Hey, guess who I’m with!” - instead, they would be actually interacting with Jesus Himself. There would be nobody more important around to communicate with than Him.

I’d drop my camera, phone, whatever at once.
It would be eye to eye at that point, him and I face to face,. what I look forward to. I would not need evidence beyond that.
Nor would it matter, since from what I read if I do see him I am getting the death sentence from him anyway.

I take photos of my kids. They certainly DO relate to me in many ways! I also take thousands of other photos every year - family, school, my kids’ events, just for fun, my pets, my yard, my flowers, sunsets, wildlife, nature, etc. etc. etc… Digital cameras are fabulous. There is no way I ever would have taken that many on film, due to the cost, but with digital cameras, a computer, and an external hard drive, I can take thousands a year!

Of course. And I remember each of my children as babies, too. But the photos sure are nice as well! So are photos of my other relatives, all of whom I remember. And photos of pets, parties, yards, flowers, etc.
Why is it either/or with you? Why can’t it be BOTH?

It hurts to be judged incorrectly. It hurts to be told that one doesn’t understand what’s going on at Mass. Please don’t assume that because someone does something that you are against that they don’t understand what’s happening or what’s going on.
Disagree with me, go ahead, but don’t judge what I know and do not know.
I KNOW that it is the Body and Blood, Soul and Davinity of Christ that is sacrificed at Mass. If I had a son or daughter and I took a picture of them at their first altar serving, I would be worshiping. I can’t speak for others, because I don’t know how they worship, but I myself would be worshipping G-d. I would be remembering that G-d created this child, that my child is serving the Creator of the Universe! I would think that what would be going through my mind would be a complete acknowledgement that G-d is there. I think that it is pivatol upon one’s intent. Is one’s intent to honor their child only, will they do it in an obtrusive way, are they forgetting that G-d is present, are they ONLY focusing upon the server instead of the one that the person is serving? If so, then I agree they should not do it!
Some people, I’m sure, cannot take pictures without becoming distracted. Maybe that’s some of the problems being raised. Maybe that’s why some people think that taking pictures would take away from the Mass. For them, it’s true! But for some, like myself, who could take a photo and remember who the ultimate center of everything is, don’t see a problem with it.
So, I apologize for getting angry. I see now that I was getting angry that people aren’t able to worship like myself, and vice versus. Instead, I should have realized that some people can’t worship in that way, just like I can’t worship to hard rock Christian music. Again, sorry, especially to benedictgal.

it a very exciting day for you and your family i don’t think the priest would care one way or another. i wouldn’t go randomly around taking pictures at mass but if its the first time your daughter is serving why not?

As a believer, Jim.
Depending on how long you will live, and how long you have known Jim, and if you will be in heaven or not, you may as well get the picture of Jim.
Your odds are you will be in heaven with Jesus for Eternity. You won’t need a picture of him there. Unless, you get to see just as much of him there as you do here and now. Will the Beatific Vision be a real face to face, or is this figurative spiritual mumbo jumbo? Who can really say? Who has been there and can tell us?
So, get the picture and then ask the priest if it was a sin. Why ask these people who are not even priests about a matter of church policy?

I’m just being a little difficult here because I see that some of the questions are getting a little rediculous and insulting when trying to make a point. I actually agree that there should be some restrictions about taking photos during Mass. However, I would not say that it should never be done.
