Do Roman Catholics bow to the image of Mary or to the cross with Christ on it? How can you say they are not graven images. No one knows what God looks like or Jesus Christ.
I bow all the time in reverence for Christ’s Sacrifice. I bow to Mary from time to time because I am reminded of her great love for Christ and His Church. In Karate, my son bows to the headmaster as a sign of respect.

I worship Christ. I honor Mary. My son really disliked his headmaster.

Catholics worship God and God alone. We do not worship Mary and we do not worship the image of Jesus on a cross.

As long as you don’t have an image of a human on that cross I have no problems with what you do, except the Hail Mary’s. We are to pray to God only.
Maybe you should learn the Catholic Religion first, then you can try to teach it. Its people like you that have no idea what the Catholic Religion is who come on time after time and want to try to teach it. I can see you just want to argue, so i will do the Christian thing and turn the other cheek. By saying that a Catholic worships idols, having trouble with saying the rosary I can see you have no concept of the Catholic Religion at all. I can also see it would be no use to try to explain intercession, So may God Bless you with his peace and grace, and to the others TRUST me its better to shake the dust now, and move on. We dont want to argue and fight with people like this, That is not what this site is about. And I can see from the past posts thats where we will be heading. So lets be real Catholics and turn the other cheek and try to help people who really WANT to hear the Catholic views, not argue them. God Bless you All.

Be careful Rinnie. This particular part of the forum is meant for people like Old Scholar to debate issues with us Catholics. It doesn’t have to degrade into “arguing and fighting”. We all try to show respect and humility while at the same time we must not compromise our beliefs. By debating these issues with non-Catholics here we are, in fact, evangelizing. There could be one minute point made in 100 posts that causes the non-Catholic to consider the CC in a new light. I would be willing to debate with someone on a 100 threads with 100 posts each if that person was graced with Truth eventually. We cannot, must not give up the fight to spread His Gospel, as given to us by the Apostles themselves (by spoken word or by letter).

Notworthy et al,

It is useless to try to dialog with OS. His purpose is to prove to the world that the CC went apostate around 700. He will take words out of context and copy and paste them together to make them say something totally different. He cuts and pastes lies from anti-Catholic websites. The so-called Iconoclasitc Council is a prime example.

Every single thread he gets on he derails and starts talking about
-Mariolotry
-Purgatory
-Praying to the saints
-worshipping graven images
-bowing to Mary

No matter how you explain that we ask the Blessed Mother to pray for us, to him, bowing means worship. Period.

The only good thing I get out of his posts is all the lies about the CC which are out there on the internet. This causes me to research for the real facts and boy, have I learned a lot about our Beautiful Holy Catholic Church.

I believe there are a lot of lurkers who read these threads and are learning that there are a lot of lies out there, that maybe even they believed, but have now been educated in the Truth.

We can lead OS to the water, but we can’t make him drink.

From now on, I will view everything he posts about the CC as an opportunity to educate myself on the Truth.

Old Scholar’s achilles heel is the fact that he subscribes to the idea that everything we Christians should believe must be found in Sacred Scripture. However, he will not and cannot answer why he believes this AND he continues to use it as the foundation of all of his arguments!

Until he begins to see how fundamentally flawed his position is (and it will take a LOT to get him to realize that) he will never see the CC position as valid.

Oh, I understand and agree with you. Often my posts are directed less to OS and more to the aforementioned lurkers. That’s why I don’t let his remarks get me too uptight.

But in the end, the message is for those who listen, and it’s up to the Holy Spirit.

God Bless.

I hope you are right ironhammer and I am wrong. I pray to have the patience and Grace that God have given you. Good luck and I hope you do a better job than I seemed to do.

We are all in this together. If we are to win souls for Christ we must do as our first Vicar of Christ Saint Peter tells us in 1 Peter 3:15

“Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and reverence.”

He goes beyond the validity of the CC position. He says Catholics are not Christians and we will all go to Hell.
When was this said? People who come to this site in the beginning may come pre-taught this belief, but then find out that some of us aren’t really that bad after all - even going so far as to admitting that we are some sort of psuedo Christian!

I hope OS no longer feels this way.

That’s the real problem. I do understand it much more than most Catholics.

God bless you as well and I wish I could help.

Now you’re ‘getting it.’

Notworthy just said he bows to Mary. isn’t he a Catholic?
Notworthy’s son also bows to his Karate Instructor. Does that mean worship to you, OS?

When did I say that I “bow in worship” to Mary? I believe the words I used were “I bow in respect”.

In other threads a few months ago. I’ll do a bit of research.

Aren’t you aware that all the non-Catholic churches consider the Roman Catholic Church to be apostate?

I would venture to guess that you also understand Protestantism better than most Protestants! The average Protestant can’t tell you where his bible comes from or why he places all his faith in it. The average Protestant doesn’t even know that people he/she never even met removed seven books from his bible and thus, short changed him of the Word of God!

In OS’s Defense (no, don’t worry, this isn’t the 7th sign!!!), I consider all Protestant Reformation churches to be apostate, but I don’t consider all non-Catholics to be going to hell. I **think **my view reflects that of the Catholic Church.

If I recall correctly, that is what you said that Old Scholar claimed. If I’m mistaken, then I’m sorry.
