We had talked about marriage a lot. I had gotten pregnant so we were talking about it. Well we lost our baby, the baby is now in heaven. I was devestasted as was he. We lost the baby in June. Well in August he took me to the jewlry store and we picked out wedding set. Engagement ring, 2 wedding bands. He wanted me to pick it out because he spent a lot of time looking and couldn’t find one I would like. come to find out the set I chose was the set he orginally wanted to get. He thought it was awfully plain though. I’m a plain girl, don’t like too fancy things. Anyway…
He didn’t propose until October!!! I didn’t even know he was going to do it then. I knew sometime just didn’t know when.

We went to Turkey Run, it’s a huge state Park in Indiana. BEAUTIFUL!! We were walking the trails and having a good time. We decided to sit on a fallen tree and relax. We were looking at something in the tree. Couldn’t figure out what it was, so he was going to get a closer look. he says “Here hold this.” I thought it was his flannel at first. NOPE!! my engagement ring.
I was like excuse me? Did you just say “Here hold this?” You could at least ask me. He said “I know what you will say!” I said how? So he’s like “Will you marry me?” I was like “Of course!” he said “see I knew that” I said “Yeah but you didn’t have to say HERE HOLD THIS!!”
We got married the next August and have been happily married since.
But we can tell our grandkids that I was proposed to with “Here hold this”

I was singing in a Christian Band for a Lutheran Church (before I reverted). In the summer, we used to have the services out side.

So here I was getting set up to play and all of our friends and family started to show up (They were and are CATHOLIC). I was getting spooked. But nothing happened during the service. Immediatly following the service, the Pastor came out and thanked everyone for coming then, looking behind me he exclaimed - “who is that coming around?” It was Mark, in full tux and tails, carrying a dozen red roses and RIDING A HORSE!!! He dismounted and got down on one knee and in front of everyone - proposed! As he tells it, he only got as far as “would you…” and I said YES!!!

God Bless!:clapping:

I knew the day after I started dating Michael that I would marry him. I’m not particularly gifted with patience, so it was hard for me to wait a year for him to come to the same conclusion. After we’d dated for six months, he started joking about getting married, and I didn’t think it was very funny. I felt ready to be engaged but knew I would have to wait awhile. When he became ready, it was fairly obvious, and I knew he would propose on our one-year anniversary three months before it.

On the big day we went out to the nicest, most expensive restaurant I’ve ever been to. We were supposed to go take a walk by the beach, but it was sleeting, so we went to his apartment instead. I thought he might delay the proposal, especially because he had said once he would NEVER propose at his home because it wasn’t romantic enough.

When we walked in, he had me close my eyes and sit on his bed while getting things ready. I was so nervous! And so was he. He had candles, flowers, a cake, dessert wine and a ring in his hand. Without letting me open my eyes, he asked “Would you marry me?” and started putting the ring on my finger. But he was nervous and had reached for his left, not mine. So my response was, “It’s on the wrong hand.” Once that was fixed, I uttered “yes,” which was interrupted halfway through by crying.

Even though I knew it was coming, it was such a huge, emotional surprise. Funny how that works. We’re getting married in September :).

I had gone to Sweden to visit my boyfriend, and we went to spend a weekend in Stockholm. We took a lovely boat trip to Drottingholm Castle, and we spent the day there touring the castle and the lovely gardens. At the end of our afternoon there, we went and sat on some benches that had a magnificent view of the castle and all of the gardens. When we were finally alone, he excused himself for a minute. When he came back, he kneeled in front of me and gave a wonderful speech about how much I mean to him, and he asked if I would marry him. I was so excited, and of course I said yes. I then gave him a speech about how much I loved him and how much he meant to me. We spent the evening having a wonderful romantic dinner at a Thai restaurant, and then spent several hours walking hand in hand around Stockholm. I love that he proposed to me at a beautiful castle. It made our relationship seem even more like a fairytale!

Mr. Romance:D popped the question during a commerical break while watching a Basketball game at his house. I knew I must be special because the Knicks were winng and he took “time out” just for me. The next night though we went out to a nice dinner with dancing and I felt like a Queen:love: . Note to engaged girls…If your boyfriend loves a paticular sport DO NOT GET MARRIED DURING THE SEASON!—foolish me—we married a year later during basketball season and he watch, yes he did girls, during our honeymoon.:bigyikes: Hey, got to love him:D

These are great fun to read.
I got engaged with the help of an interpreter! We went on a picnic with my dear friend Bertha, and he said in Spanish “Will you marry me?” He had only been in the US for a few months. I had to ask her what he meant, since I didn’t want to make a fool of myself in case he didn’t actually say what I thought. So she translated, and I thought for a minute because it was a big step, but I had given it some thought in advance and said yes finally.

Then my friend left and we spent some romantic time alone. She was very sweet, she’s passed away since then. And although he’s not perfect, he’s a very nice guy and a very loving father. He still doesn’t know much English, and whenever I get mad at him I can’t understand him, which is probably just as well, so we’ve gotten along fine for twelve years.

OK…this post is from the husband…my wife (I’m sure) will be on later with her side…LOL

I had it all planned out. She was in her last year of college (in Sioux Falls), and I had just started my first year at a hospital in Lincoln, NE. She came down to visit me, and I had planned everything.

We had met a year and a half before (well, actually we were introduced seven different times before this without realizing it…I bet God was just shaking his head…but thats a WHOLE different story). We had been dating for a while, and had even been ring shopping a few times to get to know her tastes in diamonds.

Well, I planned a romantic dinner out (I told her to dress up, I wore a suit…she knew something was up…). After dinner, I took her to these beautiful sunken gardens in Lincoln. It was dark outside (about ten at this time), and we were standing in front of a water fountain, lit up by soft white lights. She had her back to me looking at the fountain, and I got down on one knee. I took the box out of my suit jacket, and waited for her to turn around. She turned around, and stopped. She looked at me, to the ring, and back. A tear formed in her eyes as I asked “will you marry me”.

And then she spoke. My heart stopped, waiting for those sweet words…“Are you serious?”

Yes, that is what she said. Not in a “no way” tone, but in a shocked tone. Only after an awkward silence from me (as my heart hit the concrete walkway and shattered), did she say “YES, of course yes!”

I’m sure my wife will be here soon to defend herself!!! 😃

these are lovely stories and I wish I had one to share but well, I dont!

You see, my lovely, sexy Ian didn’t propose…my son told us we were getting married and Ian agreed. Then it was just a matter of choosing the ring.

This happened while sitting on the steps of the Tauranga Squash Club when Dan was 9 going on 49!!!

My husband proposed in front of the Blessed Sacrament, where we met six months prior.

He made this big production of supposedly leaving behind his winter scarf in the Adoration Chapel, so after dinner we trekked back to the Church. As he was getting out, I pulled out my cell phone and started checking my messages, figuring I would just sit in the car and wait while he ran inside. He was noticeably upset that I didn’t want to come with him to get this supposedly missing winter scarf, and I was very confused as to why he wanted me to go in with him to find it. It was freezing cold out and normally he would want me to stay warm and cozy in the car. He made some remark like, “You know how I can never find anything, come look with me!”

Sooooooooooooooo I slowly got out of the car, sighing, pretending to be a little annoyed that this silly scarf was so important. I walked inside with him, and we ran into someone I work with, so I started talking to her and waved my husband (boyfriend at the time) away, thinking he would just go grab it and we could go. He got this very frustrated look on his face, which was so surprising that I actually stopped in mid-sentence and asked if everything was all right–my husband NEVER gets frustrated over little things, so even then it struck me as strange. He was like, “I really need your help, but if you want to talk to Jenny first, I will go pray in the Church and wait.” Thinking it was really weird and wondering what was up, I said goodbye to my friend and followed him into the Church, where his head was bent down into his palms.

So, I go sit down next to him and he looks up with a relieved smile and says, “I am so happy you decided to come in here. Let’s go sit in the Adoration Chapel.”

He takes my hand and we walk to the inside entrance of the chapel, where we sit down and the old lady who is sitting there keeping Jesus company makes a big show of leaving and smirking at us. This also struck me as very odd, as it was only a quarter after the hour and I knew her hour wasn’t up, nor were we scheduled to be there! So I start whispering to my boyfriend that I wonder why she just left us in here…

He takes my hand and it appears as though he’s kneeling down to pray, so I slip off the chair and join him and am totally oblivious to the earnest look on his face because I was still thinking about the old lady who left us to finish her holy hour…when I notice he’s only on one knee, gripping my hands. My mouth falls open and I apparently started these whispered little squeals of ‘ohmygosh! ohmygosh! ahhhh!’ and he starts laughing and i go into this giggle fit, but start crying…

He says very simply, “I love you with all of my heart and I want to spend all of my life being faithful to you. With Jesus as our witness, will you be my bride?” I was like, “yesyesyesyesyes!” and gave him this huge hug that knocked him off balance and we fell over on the floor, laughing, when the priest (a good friend of my husband’s, who was in on the plan) walked in with the old lady who had disappeared before, saying “well, did you ask her!!!”

Princess Abby, that was beautiful! God bless you and your husband.

<bumpiddy, bump, bump>

I just found this thread and really, really enjoyed reading it. Can anyone add any more??

Thanks for bumping my thread! my husbands best friend and my sister started dating shortly after our wedding. My sister was a single mom and Hubbys Best friend was SCARED TO DEATH of kids so this shocked us all! 6 months later he gave the baby a box and the baby crawled over to my sister and said “daddy fo mommy” so she took it and opened it up, stunned to find a ring. They will be married in February. Now my brother did his proposal BIG TIME! he proposed to his girlfriend at his apartment and gave her a MASSIVE ring (hes a lawyer) then surprised her with two tickets to Playa Del Carmen for the weekend where all their friends were waiting to celebrate their engagement with them. They left that night for a week long engagement party. They will be married in June of next year.

::sigh::

my heart skipped a beat reading some of these beautiful proposals, i hope one day (soon) lol my boyfriend will propose to me. it will be our 4 year anniversary this coming wednesday and i hope it will give him the push to ask me already! he knows i really want this, and i know he loves me…but i feel like i’m running out of patience, i hope that doesnt sound selfish:blush: i dont know if reading this thread was a good thing or a bad thing lol

please pray for me that i can be patient
:banghead:

These are such lovely stories!! I told my boyfriend that I was reading engagement stories and he said “Oh great.” Hahaha. He says he has an idea of when and where but that he won’t tell me ANYTHING because he is bad a keeping secrets.

He did give me a promise ring about seven months ago. I met him after class one night (I take night courses cause I work duing the day lol) and he had just gotten off of work. I said, “Lets Eat!” So we went to some quick place like Taco Bell lol, I honestly don’t really remember. Then it was getting dark so I was gonna head home, but he said “Remember that trail we went to on our first date? We drive past that on the way… why don’t we stop there?” And so we did, even though I thought it was weird because it was dark. We walked a little ways and he started telling me how much he loves me, and that he will always be with me, and that someday soon, when we had more money, he would marry me. I thought he was just in a gooshy mooshy mood, but then he turned me to him, and said “Sarah, I promise.” And gave me the ring. =]
