To be on a lighter note, I’d like to talk about the Christian movies that have been made over the years. Right now I am hurrying because one of my favorites, “BARRABBAS” is coming on with Anthony Quinn. Has anyone seen the movie “Quo Vadas”? That was another one of my favorites. But “The Greatest Story Ever Told” was good to. “The Passion of The Christ” which grossed between the movie and everything else was almost a billion dollars worldwide. That topped them all as my one and only favorite.
Remember when everything was Catholic years ago and it was accepted as such. I’m talking as far as television. Remember Bishop Fulton Sheen? He’d be on every night and he was brilliant. And on regular TV. Not a Catholic station or cable.
Well, time to put in the popcorn and go relax. Let me know if anyone has seen these movies and talk shows. (I am not as old as Bishop Fulton Sheen when he was on, but I watch his re-runs now.

I love Quo Vadis too, and all the old schlockers - Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, The Robe, Jesus of Nazareth. And I have a soft spot for nun movies, so Black Narcissus, Lilies of the Field, The Nun’s Story (with Audrey Hepburn). Heck, I even love that one with Elvis and Mary Tyler Moore where she is a nun in mufti (Change of Habit)

Bing Crosby. Great priest on film. Barry Fitzgerald. Great priest on film.

Well, I just got through watching BARRABBAS and I loved it. Remember it starts out with Pontius Pilate condemning Christ and Barrabbas is just loking at Him confused? throughout the movie, he acts all tough, but in the end he converts and is tied to a cross. His last words are “Remember me, Barrabbas”.

I always cry during Biblical movies.😦 and especially parts when My Lord is being beaten, I cannot stand to watch it. I either have to mute the tv, or fast forward it.

Going My Way, Bell’s of St. Mary’s. Great movies.

Love and peace, mom of 5

Spencer Tracy as Fr Flanagan in Boys’ Town

*The Quiet Man *has some wonderfully Catholic moments (as well as the CofE Rev Playfair)

Mother Superior Rosalind Russel in *The Trouble With Angels *(and, to a lesser extent, Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows)

And for recent Catholic-content movies, I love Fr Ed Norton and Rabbi Ben Stiller in Keeping the Faith 👍

Oh, that’s young. Someone once told me the longer you live, the more you sin…:gopray:
And the more time you have to make reparation for them…😉
BTW, I’m also from New England…must be a Yankee thing…😉

Actually, I heard Father Groeschel say it as follows, “hearing a nun’s confession is like being stoned with popcorn”

😛

Hey…another Massachusetts Sister…👍 I know that was cute…😉

Does anyone remember the movie about Boys Town? And the one “Come to the Stable” with Loretta Young?

Apparently he had gotten it from Bishop Sheen…

Yes, both great movies. I think you can get copies of them. My hubby and I love these old movies, nothing today compares to them.
