If God cured all the illness, and restored all the amputees, got rid of poverty, and all other malities of the world it most certainly would remove free will. to lovya how could you say you would still give him a piece of your mind. What would that be? " How dare you do all those wonderful things?!
You, also would not have to choose to have faith in God as the proof would be right there.
Therefore again messing with your free will.
Everytime I hear an Athiest or agnostic say if there was a God why does he not heal the amputee or this or that illness I am reminded of the little child that screams at it parent when it does not get what it wants “YOU dont Love me, If you did you would give that to ME!”
Also I have noticed that they always want to define the terms of the argument and if the person of faith does not agree to those terms then they are being unreasonable and BS_ING.
I think that you want to define the terms of the argument. Jesus performed miracles, such as raising the dead and restoring sight to the blind because he wanted people to believe in him and his teachings. Apparently the apostles performed miracles, too. Unfortunately in the modern era, very few miracles are being performed. So why believe? There is one miracle that has never happened, a human regrowing an amputated part. NO reason why God can’t do this, if he can raise the dead, several days dead (“he stinketh”), restore blindness etc. This doesn’t happen nowadays either. But the restoration of an amputeed part has never happened.
Other things don’t happen either. What about levitation. Anyone posted a documented case on YouTube? What about bilocation?
It’s much harder to prove ‘miracles’ now. Too much documentation, too many smartphones around. Too many witnesses.
I think that people are reasonable to expect that the all-loving all-powerful etc. I think that it is reasonable to pray for health and happiness and it is not being unreasonable to accuse God of failure if it doesn’t happen. Didn’t Jesus say,* and spelled it out:*
**Luke 11:9-13 (NIV) "**So I say to you:
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Oh , but that is metaphorical–Jesus is talking about spiritual graces not actual food!–you say. He wasn’t? It sure sounds as if he were!!
People pray to God that they be spared terrible things. Is this unreasonable? Not let them get cancer, get murdered or raped, or their countries torn apart by war? Most humans would do anything in their power for their children, but they are not all-powerful. God is, supposedly, but does nothing.
