There’s something that I heard the other day while listening to a talk on my MP3 player.
I’ve often wondered at the statistics of the Jewish conversion to Christianity and Father Joseph Shetler at St. Joseph’s Cathedral (I don’t know where this is) said that by the end of the first century, fully 2/3 of all Jews had converted to Christianity. Now, I don’t know how the death of 1 million Jews in Jerusalem (70AD) affected these numbers, but in any event, Judaism world wide was but a shadow of what it had been 100 years earlier, if these numbers are even close to accurate.
Now, I don’t have anything to back up these numbers (maybe I’ll e-mail Fr. Shetler after googling his web-site), but you could imagine how our brother Jews felt about Christians at this time and anything that sounded “Christ-like”.
Does anyone have any further information to verify or correct his? Of course, you may also ask, how in the world is this matter relevant to the thread!
