I understand.

I suppose I feel that Catholics should have just a touch less patience with this stuff. There is enough anti-Catholic people pushing their agendas and we seem to act like carpet mats to all of them…and Jesus simply never called for us to do that. I feel we state our case, then move on and letting anti-Catholics space and time to rant will have an impact on those less strong in the faith…imo.

But, hey it is not my board, nor is it up to me in any way at all and I suspect the mods agree with you. 🙂

BTW, what gold have you mined that you did not have going into this thread? I am assuming you knew that the Catholic Church did not add to the Canon and that the Protestants did in fact remove from the Canon…so with that in mind, what has been so precious to you? (just curious)

No, Jesus will judge her soul, we can certainly judge her actions, which is all I have done. I do not believe in hindering truth, and I think nearly 500 messages proves the search for truth has not been hindered. Yet, I wonder, would Jesus sit through nearly 500 messages many of which were anti-Catholic faith in nature, or would He simply state the facts and then move on?

It seems to me that we Catholics have too much patience with those who attack the faith. IMO, we should not give them nearly as much time and space to propogate their agendas. This is very much like the Da Vinci Code stories, too much talk of that book just helped propogate anti-Catholic lies. Tell the truth once, perhaps twice, but 100 times is not required and it just looks like we have something to hide or that there are major holes in our faith. The bottom line is that after all these messages, the truth is exactly what it was, the Church did not add any books and the Protestants did in fact remove those books…the rest of these posts have just given a very long voice to an anti-Catholic pov.

If I were a moderator I would ban the use of “anti-Catholic”. That’s just me and I ain’t a moderator.

Anyway, Ginger hasn’t ranted and has been at least as charitable if not more so than many of the folks who dialogued w/ her.

I have no idea why several posters here seem to have such an issue w/ her.

Yes, that part I knew about.

But I had trouble reconciling why, if the Canon was established at Hippo and Carthage, then why did the Orthodox (who finally schismed around the 1100’s?) had a larger Canon. I think Dave (justdave1988) addressed these points in posts 457 and 462 most admirably. In doing so, he also taught how to handle dissent within the Church on Doctrines and Dogma’s. I found it very interesting.

There’s two points I’d like to make, and then maybe we can return to the thread. 😉

1st, Ginger, whatever her motives were (and I’ll concede that you may be right, but I don’t really care either way - the Truth will stand out), has proved how asinine the claims are regarding Trent and addition of books. If she came to convert ignorant Catholics, then her plan back-fired royally.

2nd, There’s someone on this thread that used to be a hard-core Protestant, whom I thought was rather anti-Catholic. This person is in the process of converting to Catholicism right now. I’m so proud of the fact that he is converting. But in talking to him, he felt that the posters on CAF hindered his efforts to join the Church rather than aided them. That’s sad. So very sad, and it’s not what we should be about.

Note: I just noticed my anonymous friend had already 'fessed-up! I share his sentiments on the “anti-catholic itchy-trigger finger” syndrome. But I celebrate his conversion!

Only because of naming conventions used in the 4th century which differed later in the 16th century. Esza and Nehemiah, for example, were called “Esdras, two books.” This didn’t mean they were different books. Even Protestant scholars admit that the books canonized int the 4th century were the same ones canonized by Trent.

Hey Dave,

This came up in the debate getween White and Michuta. If you haven’t listened to it, it was a great debate.

Anyway, this subject came up. You are going to have to go to Michuta’s website to read about this www.handsonapologetics.com and look for…I think Esdras. There is apparently some difference between the septuagint and the vulgate in the naming of the books or the content of the books.

I just don’t understand it well enough to comment on it. Like I said earlier, I read about it and then a year or so later when it comes up again, I forget what I’ve read.
