In Heaven, I hope there will be plants and animals. I hope it is like the Garden - full of the souls of every living thing.

Thanks, Sepharad. Yes, I agree with you that the Kosher way of killing animals is the best. Reverence for all life is most important. Cruelty to animals is awful. God made such a beautiful world, full of all kinds of life, we all should take care of His creation.
You remind me of an aunt I have (Catholic side of the family)…she is a very devout Catholic, and loves animals so much. She bought a cute little St Francis medal made just for pets, and put it on her cat!

While I do agree that the kosher way of slaughter is more humane, I think I’m going to eventually go back to being a vegetarian. I just felt better, physically and emotionally when I was one. I find lately I’ve been wearing my heart outside my body (so to speak) when it comes to hearing about cruelty to any kind of creature of G-d.

Why’d you stop being a vegetarian, if you don’t mind me asking?

Personally, I’ve never been moved by a love of animals to feel bad about them being slaughtered for food. That being said, there are other reasons that make vegetarianism appealing to me. I’m currently a pescetarian (though I don’t eat fish because I dislike the taste). I’ve been thinking about becoming vegetarian later this year. Here’s to the veggies! 👍

Seraphrad - You seem to be a sensitive and humane person (and very intelligent - I have read other things you have posted).

I think it’s okay to eat meat, (in moderation) but you are right, the killing methods are pretty horrible in this modern world. Most of my sisters have become vegetarians, I’ll probably follow suit one day. There are many moral dilemmas these days. I wish I lived in a simpler age, when there wasn’t so much mass production. I think people had more respect for the natural world when they had to do the killing and growing themselves.

Stupidity on my part…and laziness. Back in the days when I was a veg (1983-1995), veg food was hard to come by when you went out to eat…you pretty much were resigned to salads and French fries! So to make life easier for my husband and kids, I went back to meat eating so we could go out to eat as a family a lot easier.

Of course now that we’re keeping kosher, its hard again to go out to eat, unless we find a kosher restaurant! (I just seem to like making life hard! 🙂 Fortunately, our new very favorite place to eat is both vegan and kosher, and the food is outstanding!
