I thought Catholic teaching rejects the idea of a necessary evil.
I’m having a tough time finding that in the catechism.

EmperorNapoleon:
The only revisionism comes from those who deny the truth; that all of those commanders opposed the use of the atomic bomb against Japan. Feel free to read the memoirs for yourself in addition to the Strategic Bombing Survey Report.
Are you suggesting you did read their memiors?

I’m reading the Strageic Bombing Survey, but given the source, I’m thinking they’ll justify Truman’s actions:

trumanlibrary.org/whistlestop/study_collections/bomb/large/documents/index.php?documentdate=1946-06-19&documentid=65&studycollectionid=abomb&pagenumber=1

Back on the original topic, I think the mosque plans are horribly insensitive, and a very badk PR move by “Cordoba House”, at best

CCC 1789 states, in part, “One may never do evil so that good may result from it.” This is a clear rejection of the idea of “necessary evil”.

I’ve read selections.

Here is the final paragraph on page 26 as shown on the pages of the report (but keep hitting next until it shows “Page 28 of 34” above the scans) of The United States Strategic Bombing Survey of July 1, 1946
Based on a detailed investigation of all the facts, and supported by the testimony of the surviving Japanese leaders involved, it is the Survey’s opinion that certainly prior to 31 December 1945, Japan would have surrendered even if the atomic bombs had not been dropped, even if Russia had not entered the war, and even if no invasion had been planned or contemplated
Here is a direct link to that page from the source you provided.

I disagree. Besides, according to the source I posted earlier, the current structure is already being used as a Mosque.

I think everyones kind of strayed from the topic here. If you want to discuss whether dropping the nuclear bombs in Japan was necessary to end the war for the benefit of reducing the number of allied lives lost, perhaps you should create a new thread?

The US did not officially bomb a muslim daycare center-that was done independently and thus you can’t compare the rapid response of a nation, such as after pearl harbor, to the criminal act of bombing a daycare center.

And the second lead off which just led to some bickering that I find slightly amusing since it again seemed to stray from the main topic was how the mob veered off onto the two ethnic men who were later discovered to be christian.

What about the main issue? Can you honestly say that building a “super mosque complex” 2 blocks away from ground zero with the ground breaking day to be set on September 11, 2011 to honestly be a good thing? Yes I know…freedom of religion. But thats taking things to an extreme in my opinion. September 11th for the ground breaking day… Is this not a jab or a face slap or anything of that sort? September 11th? If they want to rebuild the skyline or repair relations with us or whatever…pick a different date. Personally that is just taking abuse of their “rights”. If anything, this building isn’t going to help with relations between Islamics and others, its going to cause some serious issues in New York, and once again anyone who disagrees will be at a serious disadvantage due to the extreme PC we have in this country. Its ridiculous.

If anyone disagrees with the construction of a mosque, even if it is in a sensitive area for most US citizens, on a sensitive date…they will of course be labeled as racial bigots or insensitive to other religions, fanatics…etc. Go scroll back through this thread…or read around on the internet on this discussion-don’t agree with a mosque being built here? Oh you must be racist or you must be selective in which religious freedoms you think should be exercised.

Nice try.

Because thousands of people were killed on 9/11, these angry racists are somehow justified in jostling a couple of brown skinned Christians?
I’m getting really tired of people of using the term “racist” to hide their PC… This has NOTHING to do with race!!!
Maybe there was some “brown skin” Christians in the crowd.
