On which points can monism and materialism be identified on and/or where do both differ and/or diverge?

Both refer to substance yet the former has a more philosophical vibe imo but can’t really substitute into phrases like “economic materialism” and “cultural materialism” b/c saying that all economics and culture always has a single underlying substance to it (like money or expression) would be too self-limiting.

I think a lot at the definitions of both would help for beginners to understand.Synonymity can’t always apply for one thing _

^1 I could see it being made if M-theory or technological singularity pans out :ehh:

If you are looking for the point at which something turns into an error that is dangerous to the faith, look for it’s equivalent in Church resources. If it cannot be found expostulated upon by credible Scholars, chances are it is error or worse. “Not all that glitters is Golden.” St. Robert Bellarmine, clobberer of heresy.

Your question could be more clearly phrased?

We don’t know the original “stuff” out of which the universe was created. The usual tack is to describe the Big Bang as a moment of intense light permeating the universe shortly after the Bang. That’s it. What was that light? We don’t know what it was made from because it has dissipated, even though its evolved remnants are visible throughout the universe. What we now call matter, anti-matter, dark matter, energy, etc. all originate in the Big Bang which created, out of a probably monistic source, a somewhat pluralistic universe.

If you’re looking for a single substratum that underlies all matter and energy, or the singularity that start the whole shebang, good luck. 🤷

The mystery of creation remains, and will always remain. It will be the vanity of all vanities to suppose that we can get inside the mind of God at the moment of Creation. That won’t stop scientists from trying, since so many of them don’t believe in the mind of God to begin with. 😉

There really is no mystery: God did it. The devil is in the details.
