There is another great argument that can be used to refute the argument that “eternal life can’t be lost because it is eternal.” That argument is the Genesis argument. Adam and Eve possessed immortality before the Fall. One could argue that immortal beings cannot die, because if they could, they wouldn’t be immortal. But Adam and Eve were immortal before they sinned, and they suffered the death of their bodies. Willful disobedience to God made them lose their physical immortality. Adam and Eve lost a form of eternal life by committing sin.

To make a typological argument, the death that Adam and Eve suffered (the physical death of the body –the first death) is the Old Testament type. The New Testament antitype of this Old Testament type is the second death, the eternal spiritual death in the lake of fire.

And the sea gave up the dead in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and all were judged by what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; and if any one’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Rev. 20:13-15

The teaching that a child of God can’t lose eternal life by sinning is really nothing but than the oldest lie of all. This is exactly the lie that Satan told Adam and Eve in the garden: “Go ahead and be disobedient to God, you will surely not die!” (Gen. 3:4).

Antinomian OSAS is really nothing more than a repackaging of the lie of Satan for the gullible.
