Hi Fidelis -
I am not one to just accept opinions but your post has made me stop and think. I recommended this New Testement because it was so highly praised by certain religious and the Paulineās - I purchased it and was going to give it to my Protestant son for his birthday. Now I think I shall hold it back. We have also given him a 3-year subscription to the G K Chesterton Society.
Regarding homosexuality. I have always loved Henri Nouwenās books even though he leaned that way. I believe he was celibate but his homosexuality was more an emotional one. At least that was my conclusion. He suffered much. I saw him on film and noticed that he was a very demonstrative personality and he was also unconventional. What makes me wince is his ecumenism - he would say Mass and invite his Protestant friends and let everybody receive the Eucharist. I loved his book āThe Return of the Prodigal Sonā and many of his commentaries and essays were excellent. I would like to know how many souls he might have saved. That is impossible to know since one doesnāt always reap what one sowās. Did anybody convert thru his influence? I do have a good feeling about Nouwen in spite of his tendencies.
I have done some reading on homosexuality and have learned from some āexpertsā that it is not genetic. Some people are born that way but more are bred that way. An absent Father (that includes one who is lives in the same house⦠I believe that homosexuality should not prevent someone being accepted into the seminary because a homosexual could be celibate. I think it must be a terrible sadness.
What makes me mad are those who identify themselves thru their homosexuality (which is depraved) and then you get clubs and bars and they want Gay Olympics etc etc etc⦠I believe with all my heart they pretend to be happy.
I would go out of my way to befriend and comfort and love anybody but I donāt want anyone to force their tendencies on me. These are private. I would employ and love anybody but they must keep their tendencies to themselves.
Sorry for waffling on like this
