If they are idols or not is disputed.
Have you seen the documents prepared by the Vatican committee after the Synod? šŸ˜§
Page 17 - Prayer to Pachamama
https://cloud.3dissue.com/77366/77720/110027/Sussidi-Amazzonia/index.html?r=22
Translation:
Pachamama of these places, drink and eat this offer at will, so that this land may be fruitful. Pachamama, good Mother, be propitious! Be propitious! May the oxen walk well, and not get tired. Make sure that the seed sprouts well, that nothing bad happens to it, that the frost does not destroy it, that it produces good food. We ask you: give us everything. Be propitious! Be propitious!""
At the end it says that it is a prayer of the Inca people, presenting it as an opportunity for ecumenism and conversion of the Inca people. So we are not invited to say it or anything like that, but was it not said during the celebration of Pachamama inside a cathedral? So the little wooden statue was celebrated as an idol. What kind of conversion is this? Did St. Paul tell the Greeks that Artemis is alright, now look you guys have a prayer to her and we pray to God? No he told them he is not interested in their ā€œgoddessā€ and he wants to talk to them about a God whom they do not know of.
This is not the fault of the Inca people, itā€™s our fault that we do not know how to explain to them that the earth is Godā€™s creation and not a being called ā€œPachamamaā€ in a way that they can believe it. Maybe itā€™s because of our many Modern lapses from faith that God does not give us strength to convince much others belonging to other religions. Itā€™s definitely not their fault but ours.
Now look, I am not saying that maybe Pope Francis and many others secretly prayed against the Pachamama when they assisted at the ceremonies, or asked for Godā€™s forgiveness and patience afterwards, but the object was used as an idol by those who believe in it and this did happen inside a church.
Maybe what Alex did was just to keep things balanced and not an expression of His wrath (which is my own personal belief), but you canā€™t disagree that the Inca people must have received a mixed message from us, now can you?
Praying it all ends well and Pope Francis finds a way to convert the Amazonian people as he so desires without a doubt.

This document was prepared before the synod and is a collection of topics to educate the general population about culture and issues in the Amazon area. It is not an official prayer book!!! In the same document you can find a map of the area, some simple informations about different people living in the area and the problem of deforestation, stories of witnesses killed while defending the rights of the native people, introduction to the Catholic Church in the Amazon etc. In fact the prayer you mention is used to exemplify the strong connection of the Amazon people with their land. In other pages 11 and 22 there are also Catholic style prayers. I see it as a document to start a discussion in schools, parishes etc.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Taylor Marshall & the other guy (Gordon something?) said theyā€™d give him money if he ended up in a pinch in court?
Baron Alexander von Tschugguel (to give him ihis full name) is not short of money.

In ancient times, the Jews that dwelt in the land of Egypt, dwelling in Magdal, and in Taphnis, and in Memphis, and in the land of Phatures, gave sacrifice to the queen of heaven, thinking that not to do so brought loss and famine.

Jeremiah 44
16 As for the word which thou hast spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not hearken to thee:
17 But we will certainly do every word that shall proceed out of our own mouth, to sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we and our fathers have done, our kings, and our princes in the cities of Juda, and in the streets of Jerusalem: and we were filled with bread, and it was well with us, and we saw no evil.
18 But since we left off to offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword, and by famine.
19 And if we offer sacrifice to the queen of heaven, and pour out drink offerings to her: did we make cakes to worship her, to pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?

Itā€™s really oddā€¦some of the faithful are giving idols more credence than they merit.

Yes for some reason some topics donā€™t have the standard time limit. I donā€™t know if that is a programming mistake.

Although it looks to me like the reason this got activated was because @Vico accidently posted something in this thread, when he meant to post it elsewhere. His post doesnā€™t seem to be related to this thread topic in any way.
