I agree that an argument from silence isn’t very convincing. But it’s a stronger argument than saying “The pope, i am sure, is against this” without any reason to support it.
he’s against it… Is that better??
What is your reason for believing the Pope is against families using NFP when they’re “not totally broke, no income…”? I don’t think this is true.

That’s why I said, you’re entitled to your opinion… and to be against it… but that’s different from saying the Church/Pope is against something when it isn’t the case.

Sorry, I’m confused. Are you saying the Church is against NFP if NO children is the goal? Or that the Church isn’t against it, but you are?
what i said is in plain English…
Thanks for the generous clarification.

that’s not pertinent to what i said…

and i would be the last to be ashamed of such a thing…
You’re the one who posted the big bold writing so I thought you were upset. I got the idea from that statement that the idea of the Church’s ban on birth control having to do with making more members insulting somehow.

Of course, we’re WAY off topic here…probably should stop before we get in trouble.

I

I thought Catholics would understand that insulting the President and the people who voted for him was wrong when it was someone we liked in office and it’s still wrong when it’s someone we don’t.

I thought Catholics would understand that insulting the President and the people who voted for him was their right under the 1st Amendment when it was someone we liked in office and it’s still OK when it’s someone we don’t.

without free dialogue… how would we know how to vote …

if we had to constantly worry about our remarks being called “rude”, etc… Well, i mean, you could say that criticizing Jeremiah Wright was rude… i call it being informed…

myself, I’m not a panty-waist… If someone wants to call me a name, i say, Whatever… have at it…

Sticks and stones & all that… doesn’t bother me one bit … 'cause i know what and who i am…

Jesus told me… 🙂

He told me i am worth dying for… and no amoutn of name-calling by those who dislike me can change that…

(but alas, i realize all are not as i am… sad but true… :()

I don’t feel that my first amendment rights give me the freedom to be rude, insulting or disrespectful to those that I might disagree with. I believe that the “higher authority” commands that I treat others the way I wish to be treated. I also believe that if I didn’t like the way others treated the last President I should not accept the same treatment in regard to this one. I have this thing about consistency.

A massive one. And I find it mind-boggling that others that care about human decency and respect might not.
yeah, he was too concerned about the unborn…

too concerned about catching Saddam…

too concerned about really winning in Iraq…

didn’t have time for… sex with an intern… trashing the white house when he left … important stuff like that…

i don’t care if it comes in a package that others call “rude”… Ann Coulter…

To each his own, I think we’re called to speak the truth in love and to me rudeness is not love.

Every leader I’ve ever followed or read about has done positive things and negative things. The fact that he “was concerned about the unborn” is a positive, but doesn’t outweigh the negatives (in my opinion).
  • He ran up $3 trillion in new debt.
  • He was concerned about the “unborn”, but couldn’t care less about the “born” and therefore invaded Iraq on complete lies (“weapons of mass destruction”), resulting in the death of over 1,000,000 Iraqi people.
  • He responded to the please for help of the victims of Hurricane Katrina in an appalling manner.
  • He has brought the U.S. multiple steps back in environmental issues.
  • Illegally torturing innocent people at Guantanamo Bay, resulting in high ranking US officials being charged with war crimes in Germany.
When it comes to valuing human life, I have no idea how being against abortion completely outweighs killing a million people in Iraq and torturing people.

i’d rather hear the truth told (even about me, maybe even especially concerning me) in “rudeness” so called… than sugar-coated lies and exaggerations (an often used polite term for lying)…

so those are my only choices?? Rude truth or lies??

who are you to say who he didn’t care about? Did God let you become invisible and allow you to enter into his head or soemthing?

Abortion is the torture-killing of children. Abortion has killed many, many millions of American kids in 37 years that we know of, within the law. There are unknown numbers of other victims, those killed earlier, by the IUD and morning-after pill, e.g. It’s a major issue because of the sheer hugeness of the death toll of our country’s children.

Saddam Hussein was openly striving to take over a large amount of territory, and was shown to be working with Al Quaeda, who had already attacked us. The war might actually have prevented as many killings as it caused, or more.

The torture the suspects went through, as against it as I still am, often involved things such as watchign the desecration of obects they cosnidered sacred, and being sexually taunted while a captive audience. Our own government taxes us for the privilege of seeing sacred things desecrated as “art”, and the sexual bewilderment and overstimulation of our children in school at ever-earlier ages to make them more malleable. The difference is…

I’m sorry for what you’ve been through… i know (somewht first-hand) what some of that was like. I have a good father (good enough…), but i have been romantically involved w/ men like your father…

even so i think you misunderstand coulter… she is not saying that all single mother situations are bad…

True, she should SAY something to that effect… but her main thing is that she is against irresponsibility. Abusive men who womanize, etc… should NOT be having children, married or not… until they grow up… But the problem is (sometimes) that women don’t demand that a man be responsible BEFORE they agree to have children with him…

and i am not myself bashing women here… because many women are ignorant abaout such things until it is too late… (until they are already deeply involved)… it is understandable to be ignorant…

What i dislike about coulter sometimes is that she doesn’t seem to take ignorance into account… All people are ignorant of SOMETHING / many things… we are not God… we cannot always look at a situation we are contemplating getting involved in and say, “Nope, can’t do that… since this [and that and the other thing] will happen if i do…” Human beings are incapable of doing that kind of thing all the time… esp when they are not raised by responsible parents themselves… not taught any better.

I do think Coulter is remiss not to mention such things… ’

although i still like her… (what she has to say…)
That is true. My father was a very responcible person when my mother married him, and was a good fther till I readched the age of 9 or 10. Maybe you could call it a mid life crisis, but I just plain think his maturity dropped to that of a teenage boy:shrug:. He’s been a nightmare ever sinse.
I still don’t care much for ann Coulter, she has said things in the past that has raised my dander, and I consider myself to be quite conservative.

who are you to say who he didn’t care about? Did God let you become invisible and allow you to enter into his head or soemthing?
I can make the comment that he DIDN’T care about human decency as much as you can make the comment that he DID care about it.

Did God let you become invisible and allow you to enter into His head in order to know that… or does that only apply to me?

Abortion is not the torture-killing of children. I don’t support abortion at all, but that statement is incorrect. There is no torture involved, no incidence of pain, and it is used to abort fetuses, not babies. Again, I’m not saying that it’s right or that I support it, but it absolutely does not involve torture or children.
Saddam Hussein was openly striving to take over a large amount of territory, and was shown to be working with Al Quaeda, who had already attacked us. The war might actually have prevented as many killings as it caused, or more.
Saddam Hussein was NOT working with Al-Qaeda. In 2005, the CIA released a report admitting this. The 9/11 Commission and Defense Department reported the same. And the former Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet said on 60 Minutes, “We could never verify that there was any Iraqi authority, direction and control, complicity with al-Qaeda for 9/11 or any operational act against America, period.” These were complete lies. The weapons of mass destruction were also complete lies.

The invasion of Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with protecting Americans, Iraqis, or any other part of the world… and to suggest so is to support completely fabricated propaganda.

The difference is the torture used at Guantanamo Bay also includes waterboarding, forced drugging, sleep deprivation, semi-starvation, etc. How you can possibly defend sexual degradation and religious persecution is unbelievable… especially when these acts are being done to people that haven’t been charged with a crime or anything.

A fetus is a baby just as a baby is a child – a category within a category. There is substantial evidence that they feel pain from ages below the average age of an aborted baby. It is certainly torture.

I never defended these things. I merely pointed out that when the same things happen in other contexts, the same horrendous and unacceptable things, which I have never endorsed in any way at all, the very individuals acting the most shocked by Guantanamo Bay are bored or even laugh at it. Context is everything, eh?

A fetus isn’t a baby… just as a child is not an adult. It doesn’t take away from the fact that it is a living being… but it is not a child.

Can you provide this substantial evidence? The last I heard, a fetus does not feel pain until the third trimester (and only in severe circumstances will an abortion be performed during the third trimester). Also, the first step in an abortion is often to stop the fetus’ heart to avoid any pain. I know that there is research being done to verify this or not, but I’m unaware of any conclusive findings that are well accepted.

I apologize for my previous post coming across so as to suggest that you were defending those things. I really didn’t have any intention of debating abortions or torture here. I just think that it’s unfortunate that since George W. Bush claims to be Catholic and took stances against abortion (and similar issues) that the overwhelmingly negative things that he did (i.e. the ones I listed before - invading a free country based on lies and deceit, torturing innocent people, reversing environmental progress, etc.) are ignored and/or accepted. In my opinion, the bad very, very much outweigh the little good.

the only time it is OK for a Christian couple to NOT have children in marriage is when they are incapable of it… through age or whatever…

I think it is wrong to not have children … it is even wrong to use natural b-control to prevent children… indefinitely… when there is no $ or other good reason to not have children…

if people (christians… ) don’t want to have children they shouldn’t get married.

they will have to do un-natural things to keep from having children… Even natural b-control is somewhat un-natural if done ALL the time, for the rest of one’s life so as to have NO children…

The RCC teaches against using b-control this way…
Im not Catholic so thankfully the Church’s views dont apply to me. Im just wondering, if you think its bad to use contraception since its unnatural, then why are things like IVF and plastic surgery not outlawed in Catholicism? When some people are infertile God meant for it to be that way, so why is it okay to go out of one’s way to change that? By the way I have to agree with you in a post when you said that women are women’s worst enemies.

Just one thing, when did George W. Bush become a Catholic?
