Well this is a new one I thought everyone liked home made yummy cheesy mac and cheese. Hmmmm.

For me it’s shark. Yes, shark. OH and gefilte fish. And noodle kugel.I had a Jewish father who learned from his Jewish mother how not to make usually yummy Jewish foods.

Canned peas should be illegal.
LOL! Know whatcha mean about gefilte fish. This delicacy can be absolutely DIVINE but my first taste of it was the kind about the size of a duck egg that came in a jar full of slimy aspic. Gack! Later in life, I was introduced to those little walnut-sized balls simmered in a bath with vegetables and herbs . . . MMMMMMMMMmmmmmm. :angel1:

uhm, cow tongues… BLAH!!! :hypno:
Oh, I remember it well. My grandmother used to make that on holidays. My parents always told me that it wasn’t really a tongue, it was just called that. Until one day I slipped into the kitchen and saw a great big tongue on the carving board!

Banana sandwiches and broccoli.
WG are we talking banana on bread by itself? Never heard of such a thing. My kids do on occasion partake of PB honey and banana on wheat though, it’s not too bad.

Broccoli? I’m convinced that anyone who doesn’t like broccoli just hasn’t had it made correctly. I love me some broccoli yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Yes now that is a different thing altogether. A beautiful dish when made the right way by a Jewish grandma. The jarred stuff is just disgusting.

I’m gonna have to explain… but my list is:
split pea soup, canned peas, pickled beets and eggs, liver, and creamed peas or onions…

So here is the explanation… My dad never knew I didn’t like these items. The reason is that he used food to punish us at times. When he was mad at my 1st sister, he would go get a pickled egg out of the fridge and make her eat it… she hated the things! With my second sister, she hated anything with mayo… it literally made her gag… so it was coleslaw or potato salad when he was mad at her… first brother was mushrooms or whipped cream… same with him… second brother too young when I left home for me to know what he hates.

Now, dad never figured out what I didn’t like so he couldn’t do this to me… so instead he did cruel jokes like when we were having ice cream cones, he filled mine with mashed potatoes. Once he even replaced my applesauce with horseradish (which I liked, but not by itself and a big bite)… I’d say it is a wonder we all don’t have major food issues.

*Must I relive this disgusting memory? lol Oh alright. Sliced bananas on white bread with mayonaisse. It was gross. The smiley I included above, is most appropriate. 😛 *

*You sound like my sister. I think we were switched at birth, she loves all the disgusting veggies and so forth, that I hated growing up. I’m up for any ideas you have of how to make broccoli taste better. lol I do however love Panera Bread’s broccoli and cheddar soup, but does that count really? 😃 *

Put broccoli flowerets into water heated to a rolling boil. Six minutes. Drain and serve.

You can take it out at 4 minutes and toss in olive oil over medium heat in a skillet with loads of pressed garlic. Sprinkle with Kosher salt before serving.

Head cheese is ok if you have enough vodka to wash it down with.
You know, at the age of 12 it never occurred to me to ask for Vodka.

I will certainly NOT be getting head cheese just to test the theory.

I will need a lot of napkins to eat that, I think. (to use for spitting the broccoli into) 😃 (yes I went through lots of napkins as a kid 😊 )

I’m sorry–that is gross! I cannot stomach broccoli that is just steamed, or boiled with butter, etc…

BLECK!! :o You people are made of steel…I am not worthy.:D:bowdown:

Have you tried pouring cheddar cheese sauce on it?

What about eating it raw with salad dressing? (This is my preferred way to eat broccoli, actually - in my salad.

I think broccoli aversion is pretty common.

Can you have cauliflower instead? it’s milder in taste and just as nutritious.

Whipped cream. Yuck.

My parents never forced us to eat anything, but on Thanksgiving and Christmas, when over at Grandma & Grandpa’s, every dessert was either made with whipped cream or was topped with it. I hated it but Mom would always remind me before going over that I shouldn’t scrape it off the top because it would offend Gma, and I never wanted to offend Gma.

So I choked it down. Still cannot stand the stuff.

Okay, I digress. lol I actually like raw cauliflower and broccoli. Why is it so horribly disgusting when it’s cooked though?

Sorry broccoli supporters. lol

homemade whipped cream?:ehh:
Hmmm…yum! I love that stuff. Hey, maybe THAT would help out the taste of broccoli.

Ok, that would really be gross. 😃

You know what I think it is, too. I get a very bad belly ache from broccoli, and certain melons too. Any veggies that are on the fibrous side. But, oddly enough, I take a superfood supplement that is the most horrible tasting stuff on the planet…it’s not a vitamin per se, it’s blue green algae…and is mixed with dried wheat grass, spinach, bla bla…so, I hold my nose, take that stuff…so I don’t have to eat broccoli anymore. lol 😃

This thread is fun guys!🍿

I don’t know. but you’re right - cooked vegetables taste different than raw vegetables.

Okay…you want to hear something really gross?

When I was a kid, after my dad died, my mom took me to see her relatives in Georgia. Wow. They cook really weird in some areas of the south. lol I remember one morning, during that visit…sitting at one of my aunt’s kitchen tables…and I noticed a possum hanging from the tree, just outside the kitchen window.

Later that night, (they ate dinner very early) my aunt placed this ‘mystery’ potpie on the table. I just sat there with a bewildered look…and said to my mom…‘what is that?’ She replied…‘oh you’ll love it, it’s possum pie.’

My aunt said…'remember that possum you saw this morning, honey? Well, it’s dinner now!" (and she laughed hysterically)

:stretcher:

I refused to eat that…so what did my mom make instead?

Banana sandwiches!😛 I couldn’t win on that trip. lol

My husband loves banana sandwiches. 🙂

We have never tried possum, though, that I know of. 🤷
