One way time travel: which way do you go?

I’d go back in time to my early 20’s so I could avoid the mistakes I made from then onwards.

Certainly less emotionally taxing than going one second into the future sometimes.

There’s also the other school of thought that the present is how it is because of what you did during the time travel. So step on those ants, the future depends on it!

If you could travel as far back or as far forward in time as you liked, then which way woukd you go?
But what about you? How would you play out this thought experiment? 😃
I can never make my mind up.

I would love to see where each successive generation ends up. Follow it onwards and, assuming we don’t screw up mightily, just keep going to the stars.

But imagine stepping back each generation and to be able to see where you originally came from. Although you would almost certainly meet some ancestors that you’d prefer were not yours.

Twist my arm and I’d go back.

Right at this very moment I would go back to when my daughter was between 6-18 months old. She is 22 now and in late April moved to Yellowstone National Park for a job. We’ve never been apart for so long. She loves it there and I am thrilled for her, but it’s 1am right now, my mother’s heart is aching, and I cannot sleep. I keep thinking back to that early age.

I like this approach. Perhaps I’d pick some random date (March 20, 503) as long as I was able to observe a distant relative move throughout history. What trials and tribulations they faced, who they met, etc. It would be a humbling experience. And I’m sure, like you said, we may meet some unsavory characters in our family line. But we will also encounter people with great skill, compassion, perseverance and love along the way.

Oh, that would awesome! I could finally solve the mystery about whether my grandfather found the correct birth family when he was in his 20s, or if he came from somewhere else.

Then I could follow his family line to see where that side of the family came from. Of course, once my curiosity was satisfied, I would be trapped in a time and culture completely foreign to me.

Probably end up being the village idiot.

Or burned at the stake as a witch or heretic. 🔥😱🔥

I’ve often thought about this as well. I’m of European descent but with unusual Asian features. I figure at one point my ancestors dealt with a Mongol horde invasion. 😑

I just want a new body; therefore, I want to see the end of the world and get to Heaven. Otherwise, I would go back in history and join a Dominican convent in France.

I wouldn’t go anywhere. But if the machine did have the power to control time, I would want it to give me that ability to see 3 minutes into the future. Then, I’d make my living in a casino, or a race track.

It’s not nice at all… life is very, very stressfull… just kidding. 😃
