A lot of time is spent defending our religious beliefs and attacking others. It might be a good idea to take some time to simply share the better aspects of our respective religions. But I’d ask that we keep two rules in place: 1. Do not compare or contrast anything about your beliefs with the beliefs of others. 2. Don’t post anything that negatively impacts either your religion or anyone elses. 3. (I know I said there were only two rules, but you gotta be flexible in life) If someone breaks either of the first two rules, don’t respond in kind.

As for Judaism: I like the fact that it emphisizes the importance of life. The Talmud teaches that “he who saves one life, it is as though he saved the universe.”

i was brought up in the church of scotland but admire and find something beautiful (lots of things usually) in all religions. i don’t think any particular religion is ‘right’, i believe religion is a highly personal thing and should only be ‘right’ for that person. there’s no point forcing folk into a particular faith, they’ll only end up leaving it and being resentful probably.

i think we all worship the same god at the end of the day, doesn’t matter what his name is. so long as we do that, there should be no problems should there?

i think its wonderful if anyone believes in this world of ours which seems so obsessed with consumerism, personal comparison and ridiculous notions of looking our best, who cares what you look like? a kind word or action is more beautiful than coiffed hair anyday.

i guess some would say my head’s in the clouds but if we’re taught forgiveness in any religion then tolerance should be of equal importance too.

Torah is the five books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, etc.). In addition to the Torah, Jews believe Moses was given an oral Torah at Mt. Sinai. The oral torah, called the “Mishna” explained how to apply the commandments in the Torah. The Mishna was eventually written down and then other rabbis commented on the Mishna. The rabbi’s commentary is called Gemara. The Mishna plus the Gemara is the Talmud. There are other commentaries on the Gemara, etc.

In short, Talmud is a long discussion on how to apply the commandements to our lives.

Hi,

I love the fact that God loves us in spite of how sinful we are. We all deserve hell and yet He sent His Son to die for us so we could spend eternity with Him. I just dont understand Agape Love but that is probably because I am human.😉

That just blows my mind:D
 
There is so much that I love about being Catholic.

Being able to actually touch Jesus, physically, in the Eucharist sometimes makes me want to cry. I wonder sometimes why my whole congregation isn’t weeping with joy during Communion!

Sacramental-I love that Catholics are aware that God can use physical means to reach us-like a miraculous medal. It amazes me that God loves us so dearly that he will use any means possible to reach us.

Purgatory- all right I know that a lot of people have a bad image of purgatory. But the concept seems so righteous to me. I don’t enter heaven until I have been cleansed of the effects that my sins have created in my soul. WOW!

Mary-I know that this confuses Protestants but, coming from an unstable home, I am often awed that Jesus would share his mother with us.

Invincible Ignorance-I love this but I have trouble explaining it without making it seem to broad.

Freewill-Catholics believe in freewill.

Respect for life.

There is more, but I promised my children that I would watch a movie with them tonight.🙂

Hi,
Agape love is what God has for us humans. He loves us unconditionally no matter what. He loves Saddam Hussein as much as He loves me. I just dont get that! But like I said that is what God is all about.
If Osama Bid Laden accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour God would accept Him into His kingdom that is Agape love. We would put condition on our love for someone. Like Im sure none of us would think it would be fair for God to accept Osama but He would if Osama accepted Him. I hope that helps.😃

I can’t speak for ALLFORHIM. But I think he would agree with me that this is a good example of agape love.

I didn’t elaborate in detail in this thread due to your request to keep this discussion positive and peaceful. However, it seems as though it will be difficult to keep an entirely peaceful and positive outlook without some negative contrast to understand what agape love does.

Just saying. 🙂

Hi yes that would be Agape love.I just thought Id point out that Im a woman;) hehe Although sometimes I feel I have characteristics of a man—I control the remote in my family, I dont cook(LOL)

Quick question…how do you justify what you wrote in regards to this?? Does not sound like** ALL** life is important

I love Catholicism for many reasons.

I am a cradle Catholic who fell away for a few years, studied other religions, but still felt in my heart that Catholicism was right, so returned home.

I love the history of my faith, all 2000 years of it. The stories of the Apostles, and their successors, all the Saints, the Popes, the stories of the anti-Popes, the writings of the Early Church Fathers, and the lives of those men.

I love the position Mary plays in my faith. I love knowing that she is available at any time to pray to, especially as I am a mother, I feel like I can pray to her when I need guidance on parental matters.

I love the earthly symbols used in our ceremonies: candles, incense, oils, water.

I love the crucifix, not just a cross, but the body of Jesus as well, whether it be around my neck on a chain, or behind the altar, I find it a very powerful reminder of how much God loves us all.

I love the rosary. So many funerals I have gotten through with great strength carrying my rosary beads in my hand as if I was actually holding the hand of my Father and Mother.

I love the jokes. I never get offended by them, if they are designed as a “little dig” at our ways. Most of them are funny as they are so true 🙂

I love knowing I can go anywhere in the world, and find a Catholic Church, and even if I don’t speak the language of the country I am in, “AMEN” is still the same.

I love the Catholic Church’s stance on abortion.

I love receiving the Body and Blood of Christ.

I find peace in Jesus Christ
Peace as defined by “shalom” - peace in my soul

A personal tragedy, brought me to understand that Jesus did not come just to die for us.
He came to live for us - to show us how to live.
At each step along His path - He did the right thing for Him to do at that moment.

Now - when I am faced with another of life’s dilemma’s, I remind myself I need do what He did
I need to walk my path.

This simple truth keeps me safe (battered but not broken) through the many storms of my life.

Go with Love, Go with God
 
I love the learning aspect of Judaism. There’s always something new to discuss.
