So I thought I’d start a separate thread concerning this, as it was getting tied into the thread about the new Green Bay Bishop.

So here’s what I’ve gathered so far. There are a group of people who took out a full page ad in a Madison, WI newspaper who are not happy with the Bishop there and his stance on certain issues. Here is a link to a picture of the ad that was placed (thanks to “OverEducated” for the link!): 1.bp.blogspot.com/_zciesOPE2zA/SPIIs-vN4zI/AAAAAAAAA5Q/f0xU1aFG0SU/s1600-h/IMG.jpg

It seems the group “Call to Action” was part of this, or that some of those who took the ad out belonged to it.

Any thoughts?

People who love the church wouldn’t cause division with an ad like that. We just need to ignore the ad and pray for them.

I went to school in Madison in the 1990’s.

The university Newman Center there (in the diocese jurisdiction) had the following traits:
  • A woman dressed in vestments and appeared to ‘concelebrate,’ including sometimes holding the chalice up at “through Him, with Him, in Him…”
  • Same woman regularly gave homilies (perhaps not so specifically banned back then as today).
  • EVERY parishioner was an EMHC for the person behind him/her in line.
  • I’m pretty sure there was honey in the bread, making it invalid matter, IIRC.
  • They ‘improved’ the Lord’s Prayer to “Our Father, Our Mother God, who art in heaven…”
  • Routinely it was “In the name of the Creator, the Redeemer and the Sanctifier”
Suffice it to say that I’m not surprised to hear about objections to sound teaching. I’d be surprised and worried to NOT hear about it. Sounds like they got a good replacement bishop since I was there.

For the record, when I got serious about my faith, stopped partying and drinking, I also found a decent parish not far off campus. It’s not like the entire diocese was as polluted as the UW Newman Center was.

I would avoid anything that “Call to Action” is involved with. They will only lead one astray.

To Manualman,

I went to UW-Madison from 2000-2004 and was an active member at St Paul’s University Catholic Center. I think you would be very pleased attending a mass there now. None of the things you described go on there anymore. The Newman center is probably the most Orthodox Catholic church I have belong to. I think the Diocese realized that there were young Catholic people on campus that needed a good Catholic community to be a part of and made changes for the better. It is definitely a blessing to the Catholic students at the University.

Well Call to action is involved, so there you go! Prayers for The Bishop, just the fact that they are involved speaks volumes, The Bishop is obviously adhereing to Church Teachings otherwise you would not hear from CTA!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Call to Action, I would respectfully suggest you read a book called, Call to action - Call to Apostasy. It is really an eye opener on this organization.

I have said it so many times that it has become sort of a motto for me but…The Church needs to do some serious house cleaning both with the clergy and the laity!!! A letter like that shows both a grave misunderstanding of church teaching and a total lack of the obidience that it is frightening. I noticed that one of the singers of the letter was a member of a religious congregation and please tell me his superiors were notified of his participation in this scadal!!!

Based on the “open letter”, it doesn’t seem to me that there’s anything really out of the ordinary in that diocese.

Challenges that the bishop must deal with, disagreements over new churches, etc. people upset with the trend toward Orthodoxy, disagreements about who gets booted over what lifestyle they may or may not be living.

I question the necessity of taking an ad in the paper, because it sounds to me that this bishop, like any bishop, has a lot on his plate to deal with, much to the satisfaction, or dissatisfaction of others.

I say pray for him. He’s got a tough job, and he seems to be doing it dispite other’s reservations.

Give me a break. Sometimes it baffles me how little some lay Catholics (the people who wrote this letter) understand their religion. With all the problems today, why in the world would you try to cause a scandal and public outrage? You know, you can MEET with the diocese and have a rational discussion.

And therein lies the real problem, Catholics who do not know or understand their religion/what the Church teaches!😦

They understand what the Church teaches; the thing is, they want things their way!

It can only be a indication of doing the right thing if you anger people like that.

If they truly understood what the Church teaches then they would not be trying to get their way.

To truly and fully understand would only mean total obedience to Church teaching. They do not understand!

I completely disagree. They understand very well what the Church teaches and they choose to ignore it. Obedience? These people are only obedient to themselves, much less ecclesial authority.

You may disagree all you want, but the fact is
if they REALLY UNDERSTOOD they would not be doing this!
