Nice question. If you missed something, simply say so, so that we shouldn’t spend the whole day arguing about a fact.

I still do not see a problem for the defense.
Aerial photographs of the housing area show me just how close this man was to the beating.
15 to 20 feet is a very close distance.

I still have not seen an answer. Just how close do you require a witness to be before you consider them “there”?

15 to 20 feet is the width of my living room. If there was a fight in the room and I was in the room as well, would you consider me “there”?

One other thing, the commentator on the Zimmerman trial said the ME report can help to confirm or debunk Zimmerman’s testimony by reporting the trajectory of the bullet, presence of spatter evidence, powder residue etc. Has any of this leaked? I don’t recall whether anything other than the basic cause of death has been reported. Perhaps this is the prosecution’s ace in the hole? So far things are not going their way.

That leaked as well. I recall the reports last year indicating trajectory being upward, close range. But with all of the misinformation being reported at the time I cannot be certain this is true.

Thanks…I wasn’t really paying attention early on. It sounded like an unfortunate tragedy rather than a national crusade but has clearly spiraled out of control. I just hope the verdict doesn’t create more violence and mayhem. Apparently the jury (and judge) is all female and all white (maybe one Hispanic?) which may well feed into any racial focus on the verdict. Greta VanSustern is there now so I am sure we’ll hear more tonight (btw for those who don’t know she became well known during the OJ trial so she does know the courtroom). She did comment that it was unfortunate such a jury was impaneled but hard to know the demographics of the area where the pool arose.

It looks to me like Zimmerman initiated the confrontation and then found himself on the losing end of a fight at which point he pulls out his gun and kills Martin.

Sounds like second degree to me.
How did Zimmerman initiate the confrontation? It sounds to me like Zimmerman was a bit overzealous…but that nothing illegal happened until Martin hit Zimmerman.

He needed no medical attention, thus his injuries must not have appeared very serious.
This whole issue was discussed on some news program. Zimmerman received attention on the scene…he could have asked to go to the hospital but apparently felt compelled to comply with the police wishes that he come in for questioning.

George Zimmerman is no “authority .” He’s not even a police officer. The Neighborhood watch program explicitly states not to follow anyone; to call the police. If he had followed instructions none of this would have happened.

I disagree if this was not a young black man we would not have heard about it.
Maybe if he was a young white man he would be alive.
Based upon WHAT? There’s no evidence Zimmerman is racist…no evidence had this been ANYONE he didn’t recognize as belonging to the neighborhood and wearing a hoodie he would have taken a different course of action.

It is a great tragedy. A young man is dead…but I believe Zimmerman’s consistent story…mostly, I believe that Martin responded to being followed with violence when he did not have to…and if both these men knew the outcome of their actions prior to it happening they would have chosen different actions.

👍

Does anybody else know why Trayvon Martin was suspicious? Cos Zimmerman really stressed this rain issue.
It’s a gated community…Martin was NOT a regular in the neighborhood…he was wearing a hoodie…and rather than hurring on to his location seemed to be loitering and looking around until spotted by the creepy ***** cracker.

Good grief he was so beat up he was concerned for his life and killed a man; surely that would make one think he had injuries bad enough to seek medical attention that night
don’t you think?

What’s with the Lottery number comment? Just to be facetious or what?
That’s not necessary but so be it if you feel you need to go there.
Perhaps it was the getting beat down along with Martin telling Zimmerman he was going to die. I have had my head pounded on the concrete with NO external injuries before…but every time my head or body hit the ground it felt like an explosion…every time I’ve been punched in the face it felt like an explosion in my head…so, if I get jumped and a guy hits me several times…bangs my head on the ground two or three times…and tells me I’m going to die…I’m going to take him seriously…especially if he’s eyeballing my legally owned and carried pistol at the time and seems to be reaching for it.

So how suspicious does one have to be before the Neighborhood Watch follow you around.

Why do you think Zimmerman followed Martin? He was “afraid of him?”
Following someone in the context in which Z followed M is ill-advisted but is NOT against the law. Hitting someone as M did Z IS against the law.

Yet he was calling him a “suspect” which speaks to his state of mind.

Initially law enforcement agreed, only after it became a racial issue did it end up in court.
Law enforcement is not infallible. Kevin hit the "nail on the head’ Most of you feel the trial is unjust so you see one side of the issue.
No wonder.

Basically all of them are eye witnesses. The question is who was on the scene? I understand there were witnesses at different locations: 1211, 1221, 1231, 2851, 2831.

So basically everybody can choose what distance away constitutes being there or?

There is not “legal” definition of “being there”. They can ask how far away you were but if you saw anything they always ask you to come forward.

Now, here’s what I don’t understand. Here is a map.

According to the info we have, Martin started running away from Zimmerman about 2 minutes into GZ’s call, which was 4 minutes long. So TM has 2 minutes there.

And 3 minutes after GZ ends his call, the first 911 call occurs, with the shot being clearly heard about 45 seconds in. Looks like TM had at least 4 minutes from the time he started running before the fighting started.

So why was he not at home? The fight and shooting occurred much nearer to GZ’s truck, about 1/5th of the way to Martin’s father’s fiancee’s apartment.

This to me lends a lend of weight to Zimmerman’s story of the events. Zimmerman was not far away enough from his truck after all that time to have been following Martin if Martin had actually been on his way to where he was staying. Instead, it seems like Martin didn’t actually back there at all.

I asked the same question many times on previous threads… The math doesnt add up, and seems to support Zimmerman’s claim.

The facts indicate that Martin could easily have made it home, but he chose instead to go back and confront Zimmerman. He also could have dialed 911 and reported Zimmerman following him, if this was really such a frightening incident. Apparently he chose not to.

Also testimony that he was sort of wandering around rather than going directly home, he wasn’t on the sidewalk but was close to the homes and under the eaves. On hindsight we might understand that he was talking on the phone to Janteal, maybe killing time and staying under the eaves to avoid the rain. But to Zimmerman who was aware of robberies in the area, he may well have looked like he was checking out the homes to rob them.

I don’t live in a gated community but it’s pretty obvious who “belongs” here and who doesn’t. I don’t mean race, but rather if I see someone walking a dog, riding a bike, or just heading directly down the street I am not concerned. If I see someone who appears to be wandering, looking around, not proceding to any particular destination, I agree with Zimmerman’s characterizing him as “looking like he’s up to no good.”

Good point, he had a phone he could have called 911 himself if he was concerned. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else mention that in the last year.

Additionally, being the neighborhood watch captain he had called the non emergency number on other occasions to report suspicious people. Some of them apparently black. If he is really the racist vigilante that some want to make him out to be, why did none of those calls end in shootings?
