I do view this in terms of race because I happen to be half black and I have been stopped by the police for nothing more more than being a non white person in a white town.

I try not to see trough the lens of race in my daily life, heck I am one those those people who can pass for anything outside of white or black.

I honestly cannot see this trial going the other way, If Zimmerman was a quote unquote black man shooting and killing a white 17 year old. I doubt the outcome would be the same.

I honestly never felt that I would be come so emotionality involved in a case outside my neck of the woods. But this as grabbed my attention because I can see myself in Trayvon Martins shoes.

I am sorry for my haste in name calling but I do believe all things fair and color blind a whole bunch of people would be calling this the other way. 🤷

It’s purely speculation, I know, but I think if both had been of the same race, both either black or white, I doubt the case would have even gone to trial.

Probably correct, since they only prosecuted him after people started whipping out the race card and made it a political case.

There were demonstrations and protests and Obama weighed in to apply pressure, the media stirred with inaccurate reporting (indicated Zimmerman was not at all injured, showed grainy video on television reports so injuries were less visible), as well as outright changing of evidence (changed 911 call tape to make Zimmerman appear to be racist).

Fact as stated by 7 Sorrows, not assumption.

Prosecution did not prove that Martin did not confront Zimmerman.

Fact, defense proved Martin had ample time to just go home and Jeantel testified he was there, “Because – he said no because he was right by his father house.”

Fact, as supported by Zimmerman’s injuries and witness statements. Martin injured Zimmerman.

Fact, as stated by 7 Sorrows.

Evidence supports this.

Assumption, but it is a reasonable one, based on the evidence.

like defense attorney O’Mara said - the defense team was outspent. it was like David versus Goliath.

i am so happy with the verdict and this is the first hope i have had since the first election of Obama that there are still people out there who can see the truth when it is presented to them and people who still have common sense.

the media should be disgraced at how they portrayed Zimmerman - especially CNN,
HLN and especially Nancy Grace and Jane Velez Mitchell. their reporting as usual was so one sided. they were so pro-prosecution.

i have to say that although i am happy that George Zimmerman is a free man i am very sad for Trayvon Martin’s parents. i think the were made to feel the State actually had a case. i think their son’s death was exploited to turn this into a civil rights case and it is really sad.

After how the mainstream media vilified him, it would be good if they would place him in the witness protection program. again livingwordunity i agree with what you have said 100%. he was definitely vilified.
his life will never return to normal i don’t think. this only shows you the powers of the media and what they can do. i pray that God will protect George Zimmerman, his wife and the rest of his family from violence and i pray for the family of Trayvon Martin as they will have to continue to grieve not only the death of their son, but the realization of what the verdict of the jury means.

I actually saw statistics on criminal sentencing with respect to the race of the victim and perpetrator (specifically black and white), which is a pretty good indicator of the perceived severity. Highest sentences went to black perpetrators against white victims; second highest was white perpetrators against black victim.

So the numbers do seem confirm that overall inter-racial crime is more severely punished than the intra-racial kind. It may be likely that the same bias is present in arrest and prosecution rates.
 
It’s in the hands of God now. He knows what really happened, and what was in the hearts of each person. Pray for repentance in the case of any guilt!

Absolutely correct. Actually, if this had been anything other than a crime against a black kid, (e.g. a black on Hispanic crime, or black on white, etc.) then there would have been no trial or certainly no media circus. The media trumped up this because of race which is shameful. I am glad this is over. Hopefully we can now turn to our regularly scheduled programming: the continued downward slide of our country at the hands of the most corrupt president and administration in the history of our country.

I fear that with this ruling that our society may soon become infested with gunslinging punks who only need to say that their killing someone was in self defense to become exonerated. For example, “but I saw him reach into his waistband.”

I think all people of every color and creed could just come together and talk openly and just get a basic understanding where each and every one of us is coming from.

This case has just made it clear that race is still an issue in America and will be until we all quit being children and think just because we have a part black president that all we have left is ideological ideas to overcome.

There is racism and bigots on all sides of the racial divides, as soon as quit beating around that bush than maybe and God willing we can get past one of the biggest sins in human history.

(And for the record I hate all races equally 😉 )
