This is the exception - and its not because someone got shot and killed, its because the media decided that it made a good story: white guy kills black man just minding his own business. If the race were reversed, or if it was the black man who killed another black man or white killing white or black killing white, it would be just another crime and trial and Carlan would not be making posts on a thread devoted to it.

This whole story is just another sensationalistic media driven diversion away from the more serious issues.

  • corruption in government/IRS
  • Egypt falling apart
  • Syria falling apart
  • our president is in Africa, talking about… global warming of all things.
And you all are glued to your TV sets waiting for the next bit of drama to unfold from the trial of the year.

Ishii you are right. I think that some of us feel totally so overwhelmed with everything in the big picture going wrong, the total disconnect of POTUS from reality, his “Arab Spring” turning into a nightmare, his Administration corrupt or inept or both…now they’ve bagged Obamacare’s signature mandate for another year…safely after the next midterms where Republicans could use its ever increasing unpopularity to bludgeon a few Democrats. Darn another crisis gone to waste. Oh and truly sad, the death of NINETEEN young men leaving behind sobbing widows and grieving families. It’s just overwhelming

This trial is something small (not to the families of course) in the scheme of things. Something we can watch and try to comprehend. I agree with whomever said that this wouldn’t have become a cause celebre had it been two black men or a black killing a white. I suspect had they known Zimmerman was Hispanic (in heritage and appearance) they wouldn’t have made it such a big deal. Although I have to admit I cannot figure out why certain trials are inflicted on us although they aren’t particularly interesting or have any sort of national significance. I admit to the guilty pleasure of listening to parts of this trial because I have some understanding of the basic circumstances. I wouldn’t have spent ten seconds listening to the Jody Arias trial.

Hugh Hewitt among others has declared a Martin Free Zone given the other significant issues, why are we into bread and circuses? Maybe the zone has been flooded and sometimes I think if I hear of one more disasterous event my head will explode.

Thank you Lisa. My point wasn’t to belittle the tragedy of someone getting killed or justice not being served. Rather, there is too much going on (such as Obama’s delaying of Obamacare to not lose the midterms) to waste our time discussing a media driven frenzy. So I tune out. This is a symptom of a larger problem in America I think - which is a tendency to focus on tragedies at the expense of the more important issues. Remember hurricane Sandy? The real tragedy is that Obama is ruining our country and getting away with it. He gets away with it because the media will reliably trump up the inevitable tragedy and people are glued to their TV’s like lemmings.

Good evening, Lisa A,

Early on and before the trial, I read an internet news article about Travon Martin’s mother and the lawyer her family sought out. He loves controversy, has won controversial trials before and it’s his circus.

I can readily admit my bias. But I am open to going where the evidence takes me.

But if the evidence simply leads to “I don’t know.” then the default is not guilty.

Personally, I’ve had no problem with it going to trial. That said, if there was compelling evidence from the beginning, it probably wouldn’t have gone to trial without the vigilante media hounds demanding it go to trial.

Well, given the initial reports I didn’t think it should go to trial. I was expecting to see something from the prosecution that would justify a trial. Something to have changed since the prosecution’s own investigator stated in court that they had no evidence to contradict the claim to self-defense. So far…

“Favor Zimmerman?” So, there is emotion involved, or do you mean they have come to the conclusion that the evidence to convict him isn’t compelling? If the latter, that is a logical conclusion, so I have no problem with it. Do you “favor” a conviction? If so, is it based on evidence or an emotional feeling for Trayvon Martin? As tragic as death is, you shouldn’t let emotion decide a case.

I understand what she means. If you followed this thread from the beginning, and are an objective thinker, you would question how it can be possible that some people don’t see any inconsistencies with Zimmerman’s story after everything that has been presented.

You can say that the evidence isn’t compelling and question whether the prosecution can prove their stance beyond reasonable doubt. That’s fine. But to deny that there are inconsistencies and holes in Zimmerman’s story after it has been repeatedly proven to be the case only reflects a formed mindset in my opinion.

I believe everybody should accept the outcome of this trial. But it is more than clear to me that some folks here will never, if Zimmerman is found guilty.

Exacty my thought. Heck some people are not “convinced” there should be a trial.

Agreed. The prosecution has pretty much proven the defendent’s case.
 
A perfect example of the media bias against Zimmermen in this case…

From the NYT…

"Last week, a young woman who had been on the phone with Mr. Martin that night testified that he told her he was being followed by a “creepy” man, and that she later heard her friend crying, “Get off, get off.”

This is an outright lie by a NYT reporter. What Martin said and what was verified at trial, under oath was “creepy a** cracker”.

I guess the truth isn’t fit to print.:mad:
