ETA: The fact that there are segments of the population and media which are going to respond to a not guilty verdict by accusing the jurors of racism I think would tend to make them more diligent and thorough in their deliberations. Hopefully not intimidated.
I thought the juror is made up of people who had little or no idea about this case. So how can they or could they have known what the media & co thinks and expects?

Given the enormity of the publicity, most had in fact heard about it and that there was racial controversy, most said though they weren’t aware of the details and could put aside their preconceptions and consider just the evidence.

So you all seem to think race is out of the question here. Don’t think so.
If Tray were a white teen and Zimm were the black shooter, you must convict Zimmerman.
Ponder it!
The truth is had it been that way, the vast majority of us would never have heard about the alleged crime.

Well, I’d never bet on how a jury goes. The fact there are only 6 jurors vice 12 might make things quicker. However, if I were on that jury, regardless of which way I ended up voting I would want to review everything and not rush it. Give it proper diligence.

I don’t think I could look either Zimmerman or the Martins in the eye (again, whatever the verdict) or myself in the mirror doing some kind of rushed job.
The thing is that some have always believed that there is just no evidence and the jury wouldn’t have much to deliberate on. Hence the expectation of a quick verdict.

If this man is convicted, any hope I had left in anything of any worth in this country is shot to hell.

If this man is convicted, a mockery will have been made of the word “justice”.

I have my opinion just you all do.
I am waiting for the Jury’s verdict , and that is what I will accept.
Not sure if you have been following this thread from the start,if not of you take the time to read a lot of theists,I am willing to bet you would have a different opinion re this trial:shrug:

Theists?

Well, here’s where some folks, including the defense team IMHO, failed to account for the way gun ownership and CCW is viewed by many. You could even see it on this thread. In their view-

Zimmerman was carrying a gun. That means he wanted to kill someone and wanted a confrontation. The fact he’s carrying a gun at all means he had a depraved state of mind and disregard for human life. Carrying a gun is evidence of a DESIRE to kill.

Since the elements of the offense include a depraved state of mind with indifference to human life, there could be some lengthy deliberations on that alone.

If Zimmerman is found guilty, I think it will be in part because the defense did not show how a CCW holder is statistically less likely to seek confrontation. That since the only legal thing they can do with that gun is pull it out when in fear of imminent serious bodily harm-- a confrontation can almost immediately become life or death. And most folks with a CCW don’t want to risk losing it legally- i.e. getting charged in an assault etc. They avoid physical struggles because it places their weapon within reach of their opponent, when the intention of the weapon is as a last extreme and to be used at a distance. (You want close contact, get a knife). You don’t get a CCW because you love to fight and confront people, you get it because you value your life (and your loved ones) and its a last ditch tool that can save it.

The defense needed to draw the parallel between CCW and having fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, emergency rope ladders, earthquake/disaster kits, or picking the car with the better safety features, or wearing a helmet when you ride, or life insurance, or wearing safety glasses when you edge, etc. etc. You or I may not choose to do any or all of those things. But the people who do take those precautions don’t take them because they want bad things to occur. They don’t, they fear those things, they do what they can to avoid them in the first place. Just my .02. But I do see in the media and various forums people citing having the gun as evidence of Zimmerman’s basic mindset.

So am I a racist?
Or evil?
Those that think in terms of race, and view everything through the lens of racial politics (perhaps because of their life experiences?) can have a very hard time understanding those who do not think along those lines, or that in fact there even exists a way of thinking outside their paradigm. It is too foreign a concept to them, that folks can think without race being foundational to their mindset, much less not a factor at all.

And to be fair, those who do not think along racial lines have an equally hard time understanding that thinking along racial lines is so fundamental to some.

Some see racism where none exists. Some fail to see it where it does.

Thats not good… that means whoever doesn’t have to go buy the normal or regular standards won’t get enough of an education. Talk about the dumbing down of America. Get the libs and RINO’s outta office… yeesh.

You are saying that if you carry a gun you have a depraved state of mind?

The jury stopped about an hour or so into deliberations to ask for an evidence list. Not every piece of evidence is presented during the trial, there are a number of additional exhibits the jury has to go through beyond what we all saw.

I would hate to be on that jury. With as hot as this case is, I wouldn’t be surprised if the jurors get heat/threats/violence for making the “wrong” decision (regardless of what they decide).

No. I don’t believe so. But I keep running into people who cite Zimmerman carrying a gun as if that fact alone proves his guilt and state of mind.

My comment about race was in response to Vz71/ Avdima interchange.

Avdima made the statement this was all about race, that only racism could be a basis for believing Zimmerman wasn’t guilty. So, Vz71s question of whether he was being accused of racism.

My comment was meant to be along the lines of, consider the source. Avdima may not be able to think in any other way, and can’t conceive that others can think in a non-race based way.

I meant posts.I am working off of an I pad.One thing I’ve noticed,if I type a word incorrectly, this device will self correct and put in some really bizarre words.😊
Hey, I’m using an iPod, so I know what you mean. I couldn’t figure out how to get the autospell to work so I turned it off, so I get less comprehensible typos 🙂

I just thought comments from a lot of theists was funny–I just I should have put an emoticon in there Sigh…

The sad thing is we would not be discussing this if Zimmerman was not an racist creep.

This whole thing started because of Zimmermans actions not Trayvon. If George Zimmerman did not act on his racist and evil thoughts, then Trayvon wouldn’t be dead.

If a strange and creepy man was following your son or daughter would you not want you child to run or defend themselves?

As I see it the only people who seem to think Zimmerman is innocent are racists and/or evil people.
LOL, that’s some quality hyperbole there. Well done.

If you have proof Zimmerman broke the law (i.e., he isn’t innocent), state it.

By all accounts according to FL law, he should be acquitted. Doesn’t mean he will be. If the six jurors decide based on the evidence as we know it, he will be found innocent. If they decide that despite the evidence, he should still be punished because they believe nothing would have happened if Zimmerman had not followed Martin, they can do so, but not only is that not provable, it has nothing to do with the rights of Zimmerman according to FL law once Trayvon approached and attacked him.

Also, do you also find it equally racist that there are 10-20 shootings by black men on other black men a weekend in Chicago, Detroit, and Baltimore, and none get the coverage that this trial gets where a non-black guy shot a black guy?
