A new David and Goliath type battle for Operation Rescue. Must they fight this one alone? How many soldiers will they find in this army ~ beyond merely cheering from the sidelines because they have a great battle cry?
It seems like all of the big pro-life advocates become Catholic eventually. Norma McCorvey, Dr. Nathanson, and now Randall Terry.
Sorry about that, I copied it from the original article, even deleting the harsher editorial “cowardly” from the title.Actually, the title of this thread is rather misleading, Mr. Terry asked that several Washington area bishops be tranferred away from their area.
Deletiing the word “cowardly” has the unintended side effect of giving the impression that Mr. Terry wants that Vatican to replace all of the U.S. Bishops. At least, that’s what I thought until I clicked on the link.Sorry about that, I copied it from the original article, even deleting the harsher editorial “cowardly” from the title.
Good post.
I totally see that now.Deletiing the word “cowardly” has the unintended side effect of giving the impression that Mr. Terry wants that Vatican to replace all of the U.S. Bishops. At least, that’s what I thought until I clicked on the link.![]()
Thank you for the clarification.Terry’s comments, as quoted in the article, are inaccurate and uncalled for. The article quotes him as saying “the greatest single reason that child-killing continues in America is the fear or the outright treachery of US bishops.” Why do people like Terry insist that even people that agree with him on the issue are traitors if they disagree with him on methods? This unwillingness to work together with people who are on the same side as you is one of the big reasons that groups like Terry’s have made little headway.
There are many bishops, who are supposed to uphold Church teaching, who turn their eyes away from the issue. That is why he called them traitors–it is all well and good to say you are against the killing of babies, but if you don’t do anything about it *despite the fact that that is part of your job!!!, *then there is something really wrong.Terry’s comments, as quoted in the article, are inaccurate and uncalled for. Amen. There are many bishops, who are supposed to uphold Church teaching, who turn their eyes away from the issue. Catholics are around 1/4 of the US population. If one quarter of our population was really really serious about doing something about abortion, don’t you think that something would be done? The bishops are our shepherds: they should be leading and guiding us instead of pulling down those bishops who *are *doing what they are supposed to be doing.
Its simply not true that Archbishop Wuerl and the other bishops he complains about aren’t doing anything. They aren’t doing what he wants them to do, so Terry thinks they should be replaced. Groups that spends their energies attacking people on their own side are rarely able to accomplish anything. There are many bishops, who are supposed to uphold Church teaching, who turn their eyes away from the issue. You’d be surprised though, at what a witness this is to the non-Catholic world. It was during the election cycle 4+ yrs ago that I returned to the Catholic Church. Much of the nudge was the full-page public newspaper ad that basically said Catholics are not to support a pro abortion candidate. But instead we have gone through *two *presidential election cycles in which this has been a huge problem, only to see *no *action taken.
Which side are you on? This post sounds like one of those, “Don’t overturn Roe vs. Wade”, let’s educate instead.", pleas, but not really on the same side post. Clarify please.
