If we do not believe in the devil, sooner or later we will not believe in God. We cannot cut Lucifer out of the ecology of salvation. Satan is not God’s equal. He is a created being subject to God and already, by the measure of eternity, defeated. Nonetheless, he is the first author of pride and rebellion, and the great seducer of man. Without him the Incarnation and Redemption do not make sense, and the cross is meaningless. - Archbishop Charles Chaput @ ZENIT

Hooray for catholic leaders that actually believe the catholic faith!

My mother studied at Milwaukee’s seminary (over a decade ago) and received nearly the same M.Div. degree priests receive before ordination. One of her professors (a disciple of the late scholar Fr. Raymond Brown) once said to the class something on the order of “I can’t argue it theologically, but my personal opinion is that Satan is just a Scriptural metaphor.”

We need fewer unbelievers teaching the believers folks. Betcha Chaput’s seminary doesn’t teach such disbelief.
