I was wondering about how the members of these forums feel about President Bush at this point in time. Let’s keep any discussion of him civil, okay? 🙂

Interesting to see the polarization.
I expect it is reflective of the country as a whole. We tend to love or hate everyone or everything. Americans don’t like happy mediums, it seems.

There is not and never has been any politician or political candidate whose policies I fully support and agree with. I fully support the President because he is the President–NOT because I agree with all of his policies. I don’t agree with all of my husband’s points of view. But I fully support my husband, and I have no reservations (or serious doubts) about him–just disagree on certain issues. So I don’t like the categories. And I don’t like the trend in the U.S. away from civility and respect for our elected and appointed office holders. We don’t have to agree with them–indeed, we can disagree vehemently–but we do owe them and their office respect.

So I didn’t vote on this poll, as I couldn’t find an appropriate category to vote for.

La Chiara…you said it best so far…

La Chiara,

The problem with your analogy is that your husband may also not agree with everything you do but will still support you, I highly suspect that President Bush doesn’t care one bit about the “american people” and only in what can make him money.

Just my 2 cents…

But then you are wrong…

President Bush doesn’t care one bit about the “american people”?

Is there a reason you have put ‘American people’ in double quotation marks and left the initial capital letter off ‘American’?

I am afraid I do not follow your reasoning in this. Could you explain in more detail why President Bush would not care one bit about the American people?

And just what money is the president or any president making off the American people? Do talk sense.

I love George W. My only regret is that I cannot elect him again.:crying:

Don’t you folks need a little support for these statements? Instead, your comments only seem to support my point:

I do respect the President and have seen no evidence to make me believe that he does not care about the American people. I have, however, seen evidence that he does care. Keep in mind, you can not please all of the people, all of the time. Considering that he was only in office a few months and faced a tragedy like no other President has faced that he has done quite well at his job.

Whether you agree with him or not, respect for his office and as a human being is owed to him. That is something that I do not see in the world anymore. What ever happened to patriotism?

God’s blessings to you and yours,
Ann

I like him. He’s a lot stronger character than Clinton or Kerry. I hope Jeb runs for president in 2008. JBUSH08!!!

Yes, he is, sanpablo! He stands up for his convictions and does not say just what he thinks people want to hear, as Kerry and even Hillary Clinton, do. Since she is going to be running for President in 2008, does she really think that we have such short memories that she thinks we will not remember her stands on issues have so drastically changed already?

Blessings,

Ann

La Chiara makes an interesting point about respect, unfortunately she makes a one fundamental error and that is confusing, or combining, respect for a position or title with respect for an individual. Having respect for the Presidency is right and proper but, that does not automatically imply respect for the President. Assuming respect without qualification would have allowed Nixon to do what he wished bacause everyone should have “Respected” him. That is an obvious nonsense. Having respect for the Head of the Family, i.e. a father is right but, if that family is, for example Mafia, is the same respect due to the individual?

Most people have respect for the Presidency but, respect for the President has to be earned and in many peoples book that has not yet happened.
