This phrase is scriptural, it is from the Old Testament. I believe it is from the book of Genesis or Exodus as a voice was calling to the son of one of the first leaders. He continued to get up and go to his father (Abraham?) and asked, “You called me Fathere, here I am.” His father continued to tell him that he did not call him and to go to bed. On the third occasion in this same night, the father finally understood that God was calling his son. He directed his son, “Go back to bed, it was not I that was calling you, it was God. The next time he calls your name, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’”HmnmHmmm:ehh: Here I am Lord? Is it I lord…uh? I have heard you calling in the night I I I night… Can we have Kermit and Miss Piggy come up?
Sorry folks! I don’t mean to be uncharitable but this is not profound Catholic music.
No, not every word of the song is scriptural, however it does have meaning. I think it has been overdone in churches, but it certainly is not anti-catholic…especially in that it incorporates the OT which is fundamental to the gospels. Fine if you don’t like the song or the lyrics…but you don’t have to laugh at people. Makes you kinda come off as condescending. I’m sure that’s not what you intend.
I challenge you to go back and find that scripture…I’ll post it if I can find it. (anyone know of a Biblical search engine?)
