I have no idea what you mean by “telling” and I didn’t “champion” anything.

I’m quite happy for any group with the personnel and experience to take on the job of educating young people about their bodies, sexuality and sexual biology. Planned Parenthood happens to be equipped and has the grant. You want to stop them? Go start a group and get the government to give you the grants, I don’t care.

As for parents, they don’t get the job done, never have. Never will. either, as a group, because they, themselves are not educated enough to convey information even if they were willing to. Do you, perhaps, know what STDs can be transmitted through oral sex without researching it on Google right now? Can you explain the reproductive cycle to a girl in terms of when she is fertile? Can you answer the question “Does there have to be penetration to get pregnant?”

These programs often provide animatronic dolls that mimic real babies demands so the kids can experience what it’s really like to have that responsibility. They cost thousands of dollars.
How interesting. So all of this wonderful education by Planned Parenthood has meant improved knowledge and better results for teens? Planned Parenthood has been in the schools for a long time. Even back when the earth cooled and I was in high school. In that time teen sexual activity has INCREASED dramatically, teen pregnancy has increased and STDs have EXPLODED. When I was a teen, STDs were something that sailors picked up in foreign ports. Now I understand that approximately 80% of young people have or had such killers as HPV—a major factor in cervical cancer.

Yes that Planned Parenthood “education” has worked out well hasn’t it? Well maybe for Planned Parenthood who can first indoctrinate the students, then refer them for birth control or abortion services.

You claim that people donate millions of dollars to PP. You would be wrong. Eighty five percent of PP’s revenue is SERVICES. Now we can pretend that passing out condoms or showing women how to do breast exams is a big money maker. It’s not. Of course you can’t tell by the financials exactly how much revenue is generated by abortion but you can provide a good guess. According to their website a first trimester abortion is $350 to $950. Now many of these abortions are chemical as in Plan B so those probably are on the lower end. But even if you just take the average of only first trimester abortions and take the $650 average cost imagine how much is earned through this hideous procedure vis a vis handing over a pack of birth control pills. Some 360,000 abortions were provided by Planned Parenthood in a recent year…do the math.

Further PP hides the magnitude of abortion in their statistics by claiming abortion is only 3% of SERVICES. Take note SERVICES, not REVENUE. They are using “patient encounters” as the counting method. So a woman who comes in for BC pills each month represents 12 encounters. It’s easy to see that every consult, every test, every free condom adds up to a lot of “services.”

But the dollars are in providing abortion. It could be no more clear than when PP claims that it is necessary for providing low income women with healthcare under Title 10, they REFUSE to spin off the abortion side of the business. If their mission truly were HEALTHCARE, they could easily survive on the funds from those breast exams and STD tests 😃

BTW abstinence programs HAVE been proven effective and guess what, if teens are abstinent they don’t need abortions, ABC or STD treatment. No wonder PP refuses to even consider suggesting abstinence as a way of preserving preventing pregnancy or STDs. No money in that idea!

On another note, PP of Willamette (our local affiliate) spent ONE MILLION DOLLARS on lobbying expenses. Imagine how many poor women could have received actual healthcare for a million dollars?

Do you truly see PP as some benevolent organization that truly cares about women’s health?

I thought you could read a 990? plannedparenthood.org/nyc/files/NYC/990_Form_for_2010.pdf

Contributions and Grants for PP of NY: 13 mil. Just to one state’s Planned Parenthood. That was 7.6 in grants and 6.3 mil plus about another 500k in fundraisers. That’s people giving millions. (See pages 1 and 9.)

Program Services: 17 mil. That’s 47% of total revenues, not 85%. (see Page 1)

Most of these monies come from insurance payments for clinic services. That includes abortions. It also includes a rather large number of pelvics, cancer screenings, IUD placements, device fittings, and so forth.

I used NY because they have a much higher frequency of abortion than, say, Colorado does. Possibly the highest in the nation, although I’m not sure.

It’s apparent that you are simply posting something put out by something you’ve read and not looked at any 990s at all or tried to discern actual facts. So, we are also now far off-topic, as it looks to me from reading the article that it was the teacher harrassing PP not the other way around. So, I’m out of here, except:
Do you truly see PP as some benevolent organization that truly cares about women’s health?
yup

I also see them as misguided in certain ways. But then, the pro-life movement is also misguided, IMO, in some ways. No one is being very effective in gaining what both say is their goal: to reduce or eliminate abortion. But is PP some giant evil profit-motivated purveyor of abortion? Not a chance.

JM as I told you ALL of the information I provided came from the 2011 990 by the PP of Columbia Willamette. I used their figures as this is Oregon and it’s an Oregon PP at issue here. Just go to ********* and you can get the same information I received.

I am a CPA and very familiar with financial information. I am also very familiar with the healthcare industry since that is my specialty. In claiming I just made up the figures you show yourself to be lacking in background on the subject.

You failed to address the various points made. Try again

Abby Johnson shows in her book that Planned Parenthood does indeed go after abortion as a major source of income. As a director of a clinic, she attended a meeting where there was an explicit push to “increase abortions.” They may not come out and say it to the public - but they undeniably make substantial income from their provision of abortion.

Planned Parenthood is the single greatest abortion mill the world has ever known. Whatever “good” they may do is negated many times over by the evil that they do. But this is Moral Theology 101.

Hitler, after all, was kind to his dog. So he really wasn’t a bad guy.

I also see them as misguided in certain ways
Julie, “misguided” in this context could be classified as a euphemism for “totally corrupt.” Consider - 300,000+ abortions in 2009 alone. To use a falsely-charitable term like “misguided” to describe such an organization is like using it to describe Nazi Germany or Kony with his “Lord’s Resistance Army.”

There aren’t any actual facts here: what “aggressive tactics?” What “proper authorization” did they lack? Where is the copy of the complaint Planned Parenthood supposedly filed?

This is from your link:

I really don’t think teens in 2012 need anything more than TV and advertising to “get them focused on sexual activities.” What they need because of this is a lot of information on STDs and how their bodies work.
What they need is to learn that “safe sex” is a myth, abortion is evil and pre-marital sex is emotionally and spiritually destructive. I doubt if PP helps convey that message.

Kids shouldn’t have to have knowledge of every disease and sexual position to understand the purpose and appropriate use of their genitalia. They should understand that the rampant sexual imagery even on a channel like ABC “Family” is completely wrong and inappropriate and that we live in a perverted culture.

I have said here before that I have a close friend and relation who works for Planned Parenthood. They do not “get most of their money through abortions.” They are a non-profit organization and their 990s are online and anyone can see where the money comes from.
They exist to provide abortions. To deny that is to deny reality.

Actually they exist to prevent the birth of children by any means possible. They are an evil organization who makes money off preying on the fears of women and giving false information to teens. In todays culture children are looked upon as a burden, pregnancy a disease and PP is the standard bearer for both.

Yes, well those that try to minimize their role in abortion have a specific agenda. Their ties to abortion are strong and well known. No obfuscation can ever change that.

They make 164 MILLION a year from abortions!
The voiceless, choiceless martyrs…murdered on the altar of secular humanism.

May Obama seek forgiveness some day for his undying support of this satanic organization.

It’s interesting that Julia defends letting PP teach our children. This is the same PP that continuously gets caught telling people they will cover up child rape! Seriously, those are the people you want educating our children???

I never cease to be astounded that Christians will not only make excuses for, but support PP. I would hope rather than supporting the work your friend and sister in law are doing, you are praying for their souls and that they leave that evil organization.

That is not true if a parent is pro-active and involved with their children’s life and are concerned about how their children are getting information.

In regards to your questions.

Why wouldn’t I use google or a trip to the library? Why wouldn’t I do my own research to become inform if I don’t know the answers to these questions now. New STDs are discovered and I’m sure the most practiced health teacher may not be up to speed to teach sexual education. He/she may need to go through some classes and instruction to learn more every year. I don’t see what is wrong with saying…“I don’t know honey, but why don’t we look it up together?”

Of course I can explain the reproductive cycle…I’m a devote, practicing Catholic who uses NFP and tracks my own cycle. I have a deep and intimate knowledge of how a women’s body works. I could probably do a better job then most health teachers.

I’m not sure why that is necessary to teach…whether there needs to be “penetration” or not. Semen in vagina makes babies…however that may be achieved.

Besides…my children will learn that sex is between a husband and wife and they will learn why that is so.
