I only saw half of that segment, and also couldn’t understand what the point was, and why Bill was trying to make the guy “prove” his belief in the demonic. You can’t “prove” something like that, and the atheist and agnostics are of course going to think he’s a nut, they think we’re all nuts! What’s that got to with the price of oil?
I personally LOVE Bill O’Reilly when it comes to politics and culture-he’s usually the only voice of reason amid the cacaphony (sp?) coming from the right and left, and he’s on a personal crusade to protect children and get those who hurt them put away for life. He’s against the death penalty, but no one could accuse him of being “soft on crime”, either. And I believe he’s pro-life, and occasionally lets that through, but he won’t come right out and say it. He is “fair and balanced” (maybe the only one at Fox News who truly is), as he lets politicians and ideologues from both sides of the political spectrum have it. The left hates him because he doesn’t hate Bush and think he’s an idiot (apparently a job requirement for the left), the far right hates him because he occasionally agrees w/ his democratic guests (Laura Ingraham really went off on him one day after he had Al Sharpton on and told Al he (Al) gave him a “really good answer”-you can’t be nice to “liberals”!

)
That said, when it comes to religion, he is, unfortunately, just another cradle cafeteria Catholic who knows nothing about his faith. I also cringe everytime he has a segment on about religion, thinking “oh no, what is he going to get wrong this time?”. In his book Culture Warrior, which I really enjoyed, he said St. Paul was a former Pagan

HE WAS JEWISH!!! I e-mailed him about the mistake, but never heard anything back, and don’t know if he corrected it for later printings. But, at least he’s sincere, albeit sincerely
wrong in his beliefs about the Church. He’s not coming from an anti-Catholic bias like so many journalists and commentators do. It’s unfortunate, though, because he’s smart enough that if he’d just read a couple books from reliable Catholic sources (like the ones sold here

), or just spend a few hours perusing this website he could clear up a lot of his errors and misconceptions, and his viewers would greatly benefit.
In Christ,
