Adam’s choice to disobey was a Lack of Obedience. That was the lack that caused the sin to exist.
I didn’t mean that the person instrinsically lacks faith hope or charity, but that they choose not to use it (and thus lack it) when they make their sinful choices.
-jmcraeEveryone has faith, but some people choose not to use it, so they become Atheists, for example. (But they continue to know their own names, and drive their cars, and laugh with their friends, which are all activities that require some degree of faith) but they choose not to use it in reference to God, and it’s this lack that causes them to sin.
Right, but it was not only sinning, but also evil. You or someone else defined evil as a lack of good. Adam lacked obedience to God which is considered a good, and therefore his act was evil. So he didn’t “instinctly” lack obedience, he just “chose” not to use it in that choice, just like your second paragraph there says. That made his action evil.
-jmcraeI have read lots of books on Evolution - they contradict each other, and they don’t make any sense in light of what we already know about Adam and Eve.
Whoa whoa whoa what? In nowhere does evolution contradict itself. Maybe seperate books on different theories of evolution do since they contain slight variations of each other, but there is certainly no contradiction in a single theory. And they are all supported by mounds of evidense. You really can’t seriously contest the fact that there is evolution at this point, it has even been observed. It is only referred to as a theory because it isn’t totally complete (since all the evidense to fill everything in, such as the fossils of every creature that ever lived, isn’t around anymore), and because few people that adhere to religion reject it, mostly the uneducated.
In this scenario, Adam could have had brothers and sisters, or cousins. In fact, there could still be non-human almost-humans giving birth to humans, even today, under this theory.
-jmcraeSince we know that Adam was unique, and that Eve was generated from his body, we have to dismiss this possibility, and try to find something that fits the facts that we already know a little bit better.
There aren’t any more almost-humans alive today. They havn’t been around for at least 12,000 years.
**NOB]. We don’t know that Adam was unique and Eve was created from him! That is not a fact! You cannot begin with preconceived notions! You have to start of not believing the Bible if you are going to get anywhere. You are never going to find anything that fits the “facts” in the Bible because there aren’t any, and to go for show, we havn’t found one bit that could even be considered evidense for it. Maybe if there were evidense, or good reasoning for it, it could be considered, but there is none.
-jmcraeOriginally, these were survival traits. Light-brown and bluish colored people blend in easier to the snow, grasslands, and northern foliage, whereas dark skin, eyes and hair hide you better in the jungle or rain forest.
Yes, but species can’t change their characteristics at will. They were just able to use them to their benefit in their environment, that is adapting. Those individuals that didn’t have good enough traits or were unsuitable for their environment, died off since they never reproduced, and therefore, eliminated their specific genetic code. Those that were fit, were able to pass on their genes.
-NullasalusBut the outcome of this world has not been evil. It’s been a mix of good and evil, by just about anyone’s standards. Limited free will, to me, requires such a mix - how can anyone make a ‘good’ choice if the opportunity for evil is not present, or is entirely illusory?
Right, I think it has been a mix of good stuff, and bad stuff too. But the Bible says that the world was “good,” not “good and evil.” And right again, as I’ve said before, free will that was automatically given to humans really could not exist unless there was a “good or evil” choice to be made, or else the concept would be pointless.**
