Blue holes in the Bahamas got me thinking, they are collapsed caves, and caves only form above water, yes?. Blue hole caves can be nearly 400 feet deep - which to me would mean sea levels were at least 400 feet lower at some time. By 20,000 years ago, then, sea levels had dropped to a level 120 metres (400 feet) below the level it is today. By 10,000 years ago, when our stone-age relatives were exploring north-western europe the sea levels had risen slowly but were still a possible 230 feet or so below what they are today. It is estimated that the sea levels then rose the remaining 200 or so feet over a period of just a few decades, just 10,000 years ago.
Now, a few minutes down the road from me I can walk around stone age burial mounds which are about 4000 years old, so I wonder could those people have remembered stories of the time of the great inundation 5000 or 6000 years before, why not, egyptian culture, stories and the arts survived 5000 years?
Maybe?
