To be honest you very well could have gone into a meditative state. Meditation can cause vivid images like that as well as the sensation of being hit.

Out of curiousity what were you praying about at the time? Was it quiet contemplative prayer, or were you actually imploring God for something?
When I pray, the first thing I do, is call upon my angel. I ask God to strengthen him. I haven’t had too many bizarre things happening WHILE I pray, but I’ve had enough strange inexplicable occurances (my door would slam shut and open when I prayed- one day so violently that it startled me out of prayer) that I’ve taken to putting on my armor before I pray, so to speak.
I would repeat what others have said. When you are using the Ouija board you are attempting to contact the dead (which is different from asking the Saints to pray for us, btw), the Magic 8 ball is not used with the same purpose. Furthermore, I would say that any tool we use to ‘contact the dead’ is wrong. I have a tape recorder, we used it to do ‘evp’s’, which is a method people use to ‘speak to the dead’. The tape recorder itself isn’t evil, how we used it WAS. And because of how we used it we opened ourself up to spiritual attack.
Just as when you use the Ouija board genuinely attempting to contact spirits you open yourself up to attack. You may not have experienced anything supernatural personally, that does not mean you couldn’t have!

When I was in college some friends and I bought a ouija board at Toys R Us. We thought it was just for fun. We used it a few times. The first couple times, it seemed like a game, and I really thought that someone in the room was moving the piece around the board. Each of us kept insisting that we were not personally causing the piece to move. Eventually, it became clear that the piece was moving itself. I then asked the ouija board questions that no one in the room knew the answer to, and the ouija board answered correctly. Ultimately, we became so freaked out by the whole experience that we destroyed the ouija board. I’m embarrassed that I did not know better than to participate in this, but I share the story for those of you who are skeptical. A ouija board – even one from Toys R Us – is not a game.

I’m sure many teenage girls have used them with no bad consequences, but many people HAVE had dreadful consequences. Playing with one is like spiritual Russian Roulette, I’d say.

Though I have never experienced first hand demonic activity, I have had exposure to very trustworthy friends and acquaintances who have had closer exposure. I have a Catholic convert friend who studies demonology and in some ways it has actually strengthened his Catholic faith. For one thing, in every exorcism he has read about (and sometimes participated) it has become clear that demons really do not like crucifixes or Holy Water. Though these things are found in other Christian groups, they are most prominent in the Catholic Church. Another point he made is that it is more common than people realize that Satanists like to infiltrate the Church and pretend to take communion so they can steal the host and later desecrate it in their black mass. Why do they pick on the Catholic Church unless there is actually some legitimacy to Transubstantiation in the Eucharist?
Another incident I will mention has to do with sorcery and witchcraft. I had a roommate while in the Marines who told me he had dabbled in black magic. Out of curiosity I asked him why? He said for the power. I said to him, “Why would you seek temporary power on earth, when you could have unlimited power on earth and in heaven by serving God?” He just shrugged. I then asked him why he stopped messing with it. He said that one time he was chanting a spell while looking in a mirror. It was some other language (probably Latin) for, “I believe in Mary Worth”. Mary Worth was a famous witch during the Salem Witch Trials. He said as he was chanting, suddenly his face started to contort into a womans face (probably Mary Worth). He said it scared him so bad he stopped dabbling in black magic altogether.

I know that we say that the souls of the dead are in heaven, hell, or purgatory. The only problem is we assume that if those are real places they are not congruent with this world. In my opinion they are in some way another dimension of this place we inhabit. There are angels, demons, and souls of the dead all around us. Most of us are usually not aware of them. There are people, though, who have what the Irish call “the sight” who sometimes can feel, see, hear and even hold a conversation with them. Do not be mistaken, spirits both good and evil abound in this place we call earth. It would be wrong for a person with “the sight” to exploit it for any purpose like intentionally seeking knowledge of the future.

I’ve had experiences with Ouija boards, both store-bought and home made. My cousin, by marriage, could ask questions on a home made Ouija board (capital letters cut from paper, and arranged in a circle–using any glass as the “planchette”) with her hands in mid-air and no one else touching the glass and get answers spelled out.
My wife and I, when we were both still very young, had another couple over one night and we made a Ouija. After dinner, and a little liquid courage, and given my hubris in dealing with supernatural matters, I began to “challenge” the spirit speaking to us. The glass began to spin with our hands still upon it, so we all removed our hands, but the glass kept spinning, upright and in a circular motion for a good half-minute before tumbling to it’s side and spinning like the old spin the bottle game before gradually coming to a rest.
We all sort of nervously glanced around at one another, as if to make certain we’d all experienced the same thing. The air in the room began to change, very thick and still, and eerily silent, like the pressure that builds when thunderstorms gather in the evening after an unusually humid day on the central plains.
We lived in a garage apartment at the time, over a detached garage structure about 30 feet from the main house, where an elderly retired couple lived. The apartment sat high on a hill overlooking acreage that sloped downhill from the high spot where the house and garage structures were built. This gave us a nice view of the surrounding countryside with virtually no obstruction other than some random oak and maple trees strewn about.
To get to our apartment there was a single side-stepped staircase, made of wood, that creaked loudly whenever anyone began their ascent to our door.
In the thick, eerie silence following the glass’ odd performance, there was a sudden and rapid succession of two loud crashes upon our front door, as if a home invader had kicked the door and the force of the blow had swung it into the inside wall before recoiling back to it’s frame. I am not ashamed to admit that all of us let out frightened shrieks, and “Ricky” and I bolted up and rushed to the door only to find it slowly moving back to it’s closed position, like a refrigerator door after you’ve walked away.
No sound of creaking stairs preceded the crashes, only the dread silence interrupted once by my wife saying nervously, “somebody say something. It’s too quiet.”
No scurrying back down the old, noisy staircase, and no sight of anyone running away down the sloping hills leading away from the house and garage. There is no possibility that the old couple were playing a trick, since the speed required to make a get away would catch them in their usual wearied manner still laboring down the stairs in order to complete the joke.
The door was tightly shut, and it was not an unusually windy night. Only a slight breeze, which, for Oklahoma in the summer, runs about 10-15 miles per hour and usually from the south, which would be opposite our front door facing north. There were no windows opened, since, being July in Oklahoma, the outside temperature was still in the high 80’s to low 90’s and our central heat and air was certainly on.
This is only one instance of events that happened after using a Ouija board. There are others that no one would believe unless they’d dealt with these forces on an up close and personal basis. I finally wised up, amazed at how thoroughly blinded I had been to the plain truth staring me in the face (once, quite literally). No more Ouija, and I advise anyone I ever hear who speaks of trying it, or of friends who play, that they should cease immediately and throw it in the trash. Never burn a Ouija board after you’ve used it, by the way. Spirits attach to objects, as sure as to people, or to swine, as in the Gospels. They seek a dwelling place because their current abode is not pleasant. Once the object that has conjured them is burned, they are released from the temporal space and are much freer to work their oppressions.
Recall Stoker’s tale of Dracula. He would never enter a home until invited. After the invitation, however, he would overrun the place and work his evil. This is similar to the invitation to demons by using a Ouija board or other conjuring practices. The differences being that Dracula is a work of fiction and not an actual threat. Also, demons do not necessarily need an open invitation like dabbling in Ouija or conjuring. All manner of sin is a de facto invitation. The more severe the sin committed, the more likely the invitation will be answered with oppression.
Also, there is little need of the devils to possess you or anyone else, although they will if invited by an act of the will or an acquiescence of will. As Uncle Screwtape puts it, in C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters”, “we do not need to convince a man to murder, if cards will do the trick.” The steady slope, the unnoticed descent, without signs or sharp turns. That is the surest path to hell. Ouija merely accelerates the process, or, in my case, by God’ Grace, arrests and reverses your course.

I’m with you, Convert66. If we are continually focused on God I think evil forces would have a much tougher time invading our territory. Glad to hear you finally stopped dabbling.

If a person had this ‘sight’ might that sort of thing be a gift of the Holy Spirit? The scriptures do say that we’re all given a different spiritual gift to be used to edify the church.
Also, yeah… Personally, I don’t it’s a good idea for anyone to be using a Ouija board. It’s not likely to lead to anything but trouble. Magic 8 ball is just a toy, but if you’re seriously using it to try and tell the future, then you’d probably run into the area of idolatry.
