Aw!! 😦 Sorry to hear about your kitty Whatevergirl. Hopefully he’s back home now!!!

My bf’s parents are cat pros… They have owned cats for a long time… They have 3 now, and all of them run out the door but come back when they feel like it. It wasn’t always so. They were always terrified of the cats running away and not returning so they would keep them in all the time, until one day their female cat ran out and got pg. She returned after a week of being gone! They were surprised, they had her fixed after the kittens were born and they found homes for all of them. She was a good girl after that, and they decided to let her roam free whenever she felt like it or needed it and that if she was meant to come back she would and yup several hours later there she was scratching at the door asking to come in.

Then their male cat decided it was his turn to run out too! He came back all beat up about 30 mins later. Seems their neighbor’s cat didn’t like him too well and since he was a noob outdoors cat, well didn’t really know how to take care of himself or where his boundaries were. He came back, now it’s been years and they roam out and come back when they feel like it. It’s funny because their 3rd kitty just came out of being a kitty, she’s a cat now, and she tries to sneak out all the time. It devastates them because they don’t want her to go, they have her fixed and all but still she wants to roam!!! They are afraid if she goes out that she will not return.

She doesn’t like the other 2 cats she frustrates them and they don’t get along very well, she’s a playful kitten and has become jealous of them going out and she has to stay in at all times!!!
And they know she will not stick to the areas the other 2 are used to roaming…which means she will end up someplace down the highway instead of the woods, where they live close to.

But I am sure she would return once she was done having fun!!!

Maybe that’s what your kitty is doing. Since he’s never been out and about he’s exploring new horizons, but I bet as soon as he’s done and bored he will be scratching that door down begging you to let him in!!

If he’s not home all ready…
Good luck and GOD bless!

Is the cat male or female and has it been ā€œfixed?ā€ ("Can Catholics fix pets? I mean, I wouldn’t anybody fixin ME  )

If he’s male and not been spayed he could be on a road trip for several days. Even if he’s been a indoor cat, instinct will take over.

If female, I don’t think she will wander very far. It could be someone down the road fed her/him and gonna hang around there for awhile before coming home.
Not fixed. 😊 I know, bad bad bad on our part. I think that as Catholics we can have our cats fixed…I actually think it’s a law in some states. Having sex for pets is not the same as having sex for humans. Not much choice involved, for them. lol Well, some humans might say the same thing, too. lol 😃 Let’s not get off topic. lol

First, yes, Catholics can and should spay or neuter their pets.

More importantly, Whatevergirl, since she (right?) isn’t spayed she may be in heat and out looking for a mate. It is very natural for them to do this, females are only interested when they are in heat. Don’t be surprised if she comes home pregnant (and easily by more than one male!) Then do your best to keep her in and once the kittens are gone get her spayed! Start setting aside the money now to have it done! I just got a dachshund from a friend who couldn’t keep him any longer and had him neutered - the total cost was over $300.00 but, I had a blood panel done on him (more for a baseline and yes, I am crazy when it comes to vet care) and he had to have some baby teeth removed and his final booster which all added up. The cost would have been around $200.00 - keep in mind this was done at my regular vets where the cost can be higher than at a clinic. Also, spaying costs more because it is a slightly more complicated surgery.

Okay, now I am waiting for the post that says your kitty is home!

BTW, we are very careful with keeping our kitties in - we live in an area where the coyotes have done very well acclimating to the urban area. We keep a close eye on our dogs too - they have all been small breeds and our new ones are too.

:signofcross:St. Anthony and St. Francis keep WG’s kitty in your care and St. Anthony especially help her find her way home!:signofcross:

whatevergirl, over the years I’ve had 12 cats, all were inside/outside cats. Some of them went missing for hours or days at a time, one in particular we had given up after 10 days and then our gardener found him sitting on top of a neighbour’s wall where dogs had chased him, he was scared and very thirsty, but otherwise fine. Of all those cats only one ever disappeared for good and in that case we had taken him in as a 3 year old cat from friends who were emigrating. Although he had settled with us, after we had had him for just over a year we moved house. I think the memories of moving were just too stressful for him. On the morning of the move he hid, a neighbour found him the next day and we got him back (by sitting very still with some of his favourite food nearby). He didn’t really settle at the new house, and after a week he vanished. But he was the only total disappearance, and a very different case as well. I think its very likely your precious cat will return.

Cats are very resourceful, wary and clever. Quite likely yours is having a wonderful adventure, or is hiding somewhere close by waiting for you all to really miss him before he rewards you with his presence. Of course, being a boy cat, he is possibly having a heap of fun with the girl cats out there, watch out for paternity suits in a few weeks time šŸ˜‰

Keep calling and looking. Oh, and its great that the neighbours are also aware. The more eyes the better.

Whatevergirl, you mentioned you moved into your new home this last summer. You don’t suppose your kitty could be trying to find her way back to her old home? Cats are place creatures more than other creature creatures, if you follow me. You might want to have folks in your old neighborhood keep an eye out for her–I just hope you didn’t live too far away.

Dang BrennieV that’s easy for YOU to say. I know if somebody snatched me up, and snipped me I’d be HOT about it. LOL.

Thank you Brenda! Our cat’s a he, for the record. šŸ™‚
Oh, then he is probably looking for a female and out tomming! Keep some water and food out for him and call every morning and evening. As for scented clothing, this is gross, but underwear and socks are the two best sources of your scent! Had a female dog who if left alone long enough would get into the dirty clothes and pull out mine to lay on.

Well, my little guy was just so happy to see me again that all is forgiven! Oh, and I sure would never take you to the vet to be taken care of :rotfl:. Your human and can control your umm, urges šŸ‘, besides you have D to help you with that control I am sure;). Oh, and I would be a bit HOT about it too if someone snatched up DH and snipped him!

A possibility, but fairly remote, after around 6 months.

Two of our cats moved house with us 6 times and after 2 days were quite settled with us as their family around them.

Five of our cats moved to three different homes in the same town with us, again all were fine because WE were there (with the exception of the cat who came to us when his family emigrated)

A bit off thread, but I have found one thing that really works when moving cats, althougth its only possible if you aren’t moving too far away. We would close the cats in a bathroom early on the morning of moving day - tasty treats would get all the wanderers back! There they’d stay while all the moving of furniure, boxes, etc took place. Then we’d make sure all doors and windows in the new place were securely closed. Go back to the old house, again make sure all doors and windows were closed; let the cats out of the bathroom, which they surely wanted to do since they wanted to know what all the noise had been about. They were always puzzled, disturbed and even distressed that all their furniture was gone. After allowing them to see the empty house, into the car and to the new house - oh happy cats, there is my favourite chair, bed, etc. They would walk around, check all the familiar furniture and settle happily to another bowl of treats.

You know, from reading through this thread, and articles on line about this topic…one can safely take away that cats are thee best navigators on the planet? 😃 I think that we are giving them a bit more credit…not that they are not smart, but I can’t imagine my cat running back 2 miles…to our first home that we rented in Florida last year. hahaha Maybe. I guess stranger things have been known to happen.

Ok…fine. I’m going to drive over there tonight. šŸ˜› Just to be sure, never can be too sure you know. lol

I don’t know why, but I’m not that sad about this today. I feel like if he didn’t want to be confined anymore, then he might be happier as an outside cat now. :o Just talked to dd from work, and she is still sad…so, for that, I feel sad, too. 😦 It was pouring here today–he is a dopey cat to want to be out in this weather! šŸ˜›

Good idea, just in case and if you do know people in the area, let them know, just in case, but highly unlikely.

Oh, its raining? Then he is most likely sheltering somewhere till it stops. One of our cats sheltered in someone’s garage, they closed the door and didn’t use the car for a day or so. He found his way home once he could get out of there. In fact some of our missing cats were found locked in our own garage - some were found by their yowling, others just settled down comfortably to wait for the humans to find them.

Talk to St Anthony about your cat šŸ˜‰

just checking on progress

DD’s kids’ cat Jack ran off right before Christmas, and they were frantic, only to find when they went back to school he has been living high on the hog at a friends house in the next development, he came to them posing as a poor homeless misunderstood unfed stray (how they believed that story as big as he is I cannot understand). He does not seem to want to go back home (maybe a problem with the younger cat) so that is that.

Sister’s cat ran out in the cold and snow, got freaked and ran, they searched for 2 days, found her hiding in the basement (she had sneaked back in and was probably looking for someplace warm) she would not come upstairs for a couple of weeks

finally, DD’s cat ran off while we were moving and she was staying at my mom’s house, and snuck out with the dog one morning. DD left the blanket from her bed on a chair in the back yard, and sure enough, the evening of the next day, Puffy was snuggled up there.

A good idea. Cats have been known to find their old homes all the way across the country, so 2 miles is really a short distance. We once moved about a mile away from our old house over a huge hill no less and our cat surprised the people who bought our old house one night by jumping into bed with them. LOL! So, you can never tell, indeed.

They do do odd things–at least odd from our perspective, don’t they? I could tell you tales about the cats we’ve had and still have, but I wouldn’t want to bore you with them. If nothing has happened to him, and you put out some incentives for him, as others have suggested, he should find his way back to you. I remembered your family and your lost kitty in our intentions this evening. I hope he comes home soon. God bless.

Thanks Della and everyone…your words of encouragement mean a lot to me. Well, tonight I cried. I really miss Saber. We are thinking of buying another kitten, but not sure if we are ready. I don’t think any kitty will be like our Saber. He really was special. I just came in from looking for him outside again. I’m worried that suppose he is eating on someone else’s porch now, and no one reports him missing, and he gets a new owner? 😦

Just so many things going through our heads tonight. I really appreciate you all listening to this–and sharing your stories. It’s good to know that cats are so resiliant!!!

DO NOT BUY A KITTY.

Go to a local no-kill shelter and adopt one.

another idea, is your car low on gas? 😃

lol–question–why not buy one? I also agree with adopting one, but hubby found a large pet store in a nearby area to us, where they ā€˜raise’ the healthiest cats…they have their shots…and they socialize them so they will be friendly with their owners. Thoughts?

I can’t believe I’m thinking about this even, kage. I just want our own cat back!!:crying:

It’s really been an amazing thing, but we have so many neighbors calling us, asking about our cat…if we have found him, etc…and wanting to help. I’m excited about that …but suppose he ran away to a completely different neighborhood? Like crossed the street and is now in a different development? I will post more fliers tomorrow…maybe that will expand the search, if he did do that. My greatest fear…and it really has me worried…is that he is being fed by someone else who spotted him wandering around, and he has a new owner. What’s the likliehood of that, do you all think? 😦

When you were looking for someone to take the gas station kitty, did you not call shelters and they could take no more? That is because people were not adopting them.

We have a rescued dog. Rescued pets seem to KNOW you rescued them, they look at you and say ā€œthank youā€ every day for the rest of thier lives.

We actually bought this cat from a woman who took strays in, back in PA. The best $20 we ever spent!!! :o I think we will visit both. I honestly don’t even know if I’m ready to get a new kitty, but we’ll see. We just wish he’d turn up. 😦
