She lives in Florida, so the food won’t freeze.
nine months??This has happened to me several times. I had a cat who was sure he wanted outside, and he would dart out every chance he got. He usually hid in some bushes close by (petrified,) or in the neighbor’s yard, but we always found him after a day or two.
I also had a Siamese, who got out and stayed gone for 9 MONTHS, only to show up on my doorstep as if nothing had happened. He was a nonchalant little so-and-so. I hope yours is not gone that long, Whatevergirl, but I tell you this because cats are quite resourceful. Yours will probably be back sooner rather than later. Just keep looking for him and do as Zooey says. He’ll turn up when you least expect him.
from your post to God’s ears.Been around cats a long time. He’s probably just hiding someplace close by. It doesn’t matter all the townhomes look the same, he knows which one is his. I’m confident he’ll return.
Yeah, I think it will be hard tonight for all of us. I just can’t imagine that at this point, with it being dark right now, that he isn’t somehow confused and scared? My prayers too. Being a cat person myself, I always dread either one of my cats escape. As a young kid, we had our cat lost for about a week and none of us got any sleep during that spell.
I suspect he was living the good life somewhere else. He certainly wasn’t underfed. Hope yours turns up soon!nine months??![]()
holy cow…how bizarre…what do you think took him so long to come back to you???
at least he came back though–that’s a good thing!
In addition to the litter box and food, put some laundry - smelly t-shirts and/or socks - on the porch. Smell helps dogs come home, it can’t HURT with a cat…Yeah, I think it will be hard tonight for all of us. Thanks kage–will do. DD is searching now for the right shirt to put on the porch. My MIL thinks he will travel back home…without question. I wish I could have the same faith that he’ll return. I hate to sound pessimistic…maybe I’m just sleepy. In addition to the litter box and food, put some laundry - smelly t-shirts and/or socks - on the porch. aw, living the good life. Imagine if WE all ran away from time to time? Might feel relaxed and refreshed when we return home…I’d like to be a cat in the next life.I suspect he was living the good life somewhere else. He certainly wasn’t underfed. Hope yours turns up soon!
Me too. Everytime whatevergirl replies i keep hoping she says they found the cat.I’ve been checking this thread all day for some good news from you, Whatevergirl. You, your family and the cat are in my prayers. I hope by this time tomorrow we’re all rejoicing at the cat’s return.

My cat comes running the minute I start shaking her treats!! That’s a great idea!!! I would have not thought of that!I’m new here and found your missing kitty problem to be one close to my heart. My cat has escaped a few times. I like the kitty litter box outside. That’s a good plan. I stood outside calling my cat’s name and shaking a bag of his treats. I also used one of those little lights that he likes to chase around the house. You know, one of those little red dot laser things. If you use one to play with your cat, that worked out well for me. Jasper came to that light. Don’t lose too much sleep, but calling the cat’s name in a calm tone can be a good answer. Also, if you do see the cat, like at a neighbor’s house on their deck, just sit outside saying its name. Just don’t act like it’s so terribly urgent that kitty come right over to you. You have to act like you really don’t care. You know how they are and you know what I mean.
Find the kitty and let us know how you made out.
aw thank you! nope, still no sign of him. Some ‘thing’ ate the treats though that we left on the porch last night, in his dish. My dh was funny…he said, I’m not going to put down treats for raccoons and every other wild animal out there. We have a surveillance camera that came with the townhome, and I’m thinking of getting it hooked up, and pointed down at the dish so I can see ‘who’ is eating the treats. Or I might do the ‘trap’ idea. I am a little scared of what we might trap. I just don’t have a good feeling about this cat returning. I read last night that cats have amazing senses of direction…but in this case, the cat was never outside …and so, if he took off shortly after the neighbor spotted him, he could be in another subdivision by now.I’ve been checking this thread all day for some good news from you, Whatevergirl. The cat may be used to be being outside after the adventure but it won’t take long to get the cat reacclimated to being indoors only. Have faith!!aw thank you! nope, still no sign of him. So, if he returns after a month…he most likely will be too used to being outside. It’s heartbreaking though for our dd. She misses him so.
You might end up with more than one cat when she comes backIs the cat male or female and has it been “fixed?” ("Can Catholics fix pets? I mean, I wouldn’t anybody fixin ME)
If he’s male and not been spayed he could be on a road trip for several days. Even if he’s been a indoor cat, instinct will take over.
If female, I don’t think she will wander very far. It could be someone down the road fed her/him and gonna hang around there for awhile before coming home.
