Our cat is missing!

Still no cat. :nope: My dd and I looked everywhere we could think of in our neighborhood when I got home from work, and my dh scoured the entire area, even out of our neighborhood. We put his litter box and food outside–just the dry food, because bugs were coming for the wet food. I am afraid he will never come back. Not sure why I feel that way, but I had a sense about it all tonight…like maybe he just wanted to go, he didn’t want to be confined anymore, in the house. I think dd could understand that a bit better–she kept asking why would he leave us, we loved him mommy. I really felt like maybe he just was never meant to be an indoor cat. 🤷 Thinking back to PA, he did sit by the door there too, but it was so wicked cold half the time, he’d run when the front door would open. I just pray that wherever he is, he is not hurting. He is eating. It would be great if he found his way back to us, but if not, I told dd to keep praying for his safety. I was thinking of making a collage and hanging it somewhere, where if my dd wants to cry or think about him, she can spend time with the collage. Maybe not yet, but if after a few weeks, we might do that. I haven’t really cried over this yet, but have felt close. Just still in shock that my sweetie pie kitty is not sitting right here by my side tonight. 😦

Here’s an interesting twist to all of this though. We are somewhat new to this neighborhood, moved in last summer…and tonight, as I wandered about looking for the cat, many neighbors came out …they knew (my husband told them earlier today) that the cat was missing, and they said that they have told everyone they can about it, so we are not alone in our search. I thought that was so sweet, even little kids on bikes were riding around helping us search. I thought, maybe in all of this, here is God again bringing the good, out of something not so good. I thought it was pretty cool, the way everyone seemed so eager to help us.

Anyways, thanks for your comments everyone. I am taking your advice, and I appreciate your prayers. Please pray for my dd…she is very sad about all of this. 😦

This has happened to me several times. I had a cat who was sure he wanted outside, and he would dart out every chance he got. He usually hid in some bushes close by (petrified,) or in the neighbor’s yard, but we always found him after a day or two.

I also had a Siamese, who got out and stayed gone for 9 MONTHS, only to show up on my doorstep as if nothing had happened. He was a nonchalant little so-and-so. I hope yours is not gone that long, Whatevergirl, but I tell you this because cats are quite resourceful. Yours will probably be back sooner rather than later. Just keep looking for him and do as Zooey says. He’ll turn up when you least expect him.
nine months??  holy cow…how bizarre…what do you think took him so long to come back to you??? :o at least he came back though–that’s a good thing!

Been around cats a long time. He’s probably just hiding someplace close by. It doesn’t matter all the townhomes look the same, he knows which one is his. I’m confident he’ll return.
from your post to God’s ears. 🙂 I sure hope so!!! :sad_yes:

My prayers too. Being a cat person myself, I always dread either one of my cats escape. As a young kid, we had our cat lost for about a week and none of us got any sleep during that spell.

Yeah, I think it will be hard tonight for all of us. I just can’t imagine that at this point, with it being dark right now, that he isn’t somehow confused and scared? 😦

I suspect he was living the good life somewhere else. He certainly wasn’t underfed. Hope yours turns up soon!

In addition to the litter box and food, put some laundry - smelly t-shirts and/or socks - on the porch. Smell helps dogs come home, it can’t HURT with a cat…

Thanks kage–will do. DD is searching now for the right shirt to put on the porch. My MIL thinks he will travel back home…without question. I wish I could have the same faith that he’ll return. I hate to sound pessimistic…maybe I’m just sleepy.😊 🤷

I’m new here and found your missing kitty problem to be one close to my heart. My cat has escaped a few times. I like the kitty litter box outside. That’s a good plan. I stood outside calling my cat’s name and shaking a bag of his treats. I also used one of those little lights that he likes to chase around the house. You know, one of those little red dot laser things. If you use one to play with your cat, that worked out well for me. Jasper came to that light. Don’t lose too much sleep, but calling the cat’s name in a calm tone can be a good answer. Also, if you do see the cat, like at a neighbor’s house on their deck, just sit outside saying its name. Just don’t act like it’s so terribly urgent that kitty come right over to you. You have to act like you really don’t care. You know how they are and you know what I mean.

Find the kitty and let us know how you made out.

aw, living the good life. Imagine if WE all ran away from time to time? Might feel relaxed and refreshed when we return home…I’d like to be a cat in the next life. 😛

Animals just do this sort of thing to get a rise out of us. Dogs because they’re too simple to do much else and cats because we’re simple so they don’t have to do much else, lol.

I hope you find kitty soon!

My son’s first pet was a cat, that he named “Smoke” because of her gray and white color. She was not a people cat, and the only folks that could pet her were me and my son.

My SIL gave her to us when she was kitten, my son was 5 years old. She slept at the foot of his bed till he left for college. The first few weeks he was gone she roamed the halls meowing, as if she was saying, “hey its time for bed where are you?” She continued to sleep in his room each night, and when he came home to visit she walked all over his head “marking” him when he layed down.

She had the run of the house, inside and out. She brought us chewed up chipmunks, and lizards often. Leaving them at the garage door. She hated closed doors and pawed at them till you opened them. She never went in the room, just wanted the door kept open.

Smoke lived to be 20 years old. She was the only pet my son ever knew. When he called home the first thing he ask, “how’s the cat?”

The last few years of her life, she slowed down alot, but occasionaly she would try to get frisky, but she was just too old. We had to help her up on the bed, and on the couch. She spent most of her time with me and D on the den floor just watching us. I knew she didn’t have long when she quit pawing for food at supper.

My son was now 25 years old and working for a big company. Although he never mentioned it, he knew each visit home could be the last time he saw Smoke.

I came home from work one morning, and Smoke was easing across the den floor. She made it halfway and stopped for a moment, then continued on to the couch. Where she sat down and called out to me to come get her and put her up on the couch, one of her favorite spots. She was too old and feeble to make the jump.

I picked her up, put her on the couch, and then went about my business. Spending time in the study, then going out to run. I was towling off and walking back through and I went over to her, she was gone. She had died in her sleep. What a good and loyal friend she was.

I dreaded what I had to do next. I had to call my son, and tell him the news. He answered the phone and I went, “hey”

“hey whats up?”

“I’m sorry son, but Smoke died in her sleep this morning, I just found her on the couch”

“Bless her heart”

“yeah I know, she was a loyal friend. I’ll take care of her”

“where are you going to put her?”

“outback under the dogwood tree, the one she marked 20 times a day”

“LOL, I know the one”

“k” He was silent for a few seconds and then just said-

“Thanks dad”

Then I had to call Debbie. She never liked Smoke (2 women in the same house I think) but tolerated her because Chris loved her. In the 20 years we had her she only went in the master bedroom about 3 times (D’s scent all in there I reckon). She was saddened at the news, and told me to take care of her before she came home, because she didn’t want to see her.

That night it was extra quiet around our house.

Now flash forward about 5 years and my son picks up a rescue cat from his apt complex. He takes her in, then has to move, and Roxy finds her way here. She is a much more people cat then Smoke ever was. We said we were never gonna have another pet, but we made this exception. Roxy is the most loyal cat I ever met, and she likes D. haha.

So anyway thats my cat story.

I’ve been checking this thread all day for some good news from you, Whatevergirl. You, your family and the cat are in my prayers. I hope by this time tomorrow we’re all rejoicing at the cat’s return.

Me too. Everytime whatevergirl replies i keep hoping she says they found the cat.

I am looking around my house at the moment. I have one cat who is trying to get into everything she can and the other who is stretched out on the bed. He’s ready for bed. Heck he has already beaten me there!

Bama,

I had a cat like that. Here name was Wally. She loved me and sleep with me all the time. Even came with me after the parents got divorced. She was 17 years old when she died. I can remember where i was when i got the phone call that she had died. I was in my dorm room and it was late afternoon. Cried like a baby!

My cat comes running the minute I start shaking her treats!! That’s a great idea!!! I would have not thought of that!

aw thank you! nope, still no sign of him. Some ‘thing’ ate the treats though that we left on the porch last night, in his dish. My dh was funny…he said, I’m not going to put down treats for raccoons and every other wild animal out there. We have a surveillance camera that came with the townhome, and I’m thinking of getting it hooked up, and pointed down at the dish so I can see ‘who’ is eating the treats. Or I might do the ‘trap’ idea. I am a little scared of what we might trap. I just don’t have a good feeling about this cat returning. I read last night that cats have amazing senses of direction…but in this case, the cat was never outside …and so, if he took off shortly after the neighbor spotted him, he could be in another subdivision by now. 😦 I don’t want an outdoor cat though. So, if he returns after a month…he most likely will be too used to being outside. It’s heartbreaking though for our dd. She misses him so.

The cat may be used to be being outside after the adventure but it won’t take long to get the cat reacclimated to being indoors only. Have faith!! 🙂

Is the cat male or female and has it been “fixed?” ("Can Catholics fix pets? I mean, I wouldn’t anybody fixin ME  )

If he’s male and not been spayed he could be on a road trip for several days. Even if he’s been a indoor cat, instinct will take over.

If female, I don’t think she will wander very far. It could be someone down the road fed her/him and gonna hang around there for awhile before coming home.

You might end up with more than one cat when she comes back:D
