I was just reading a book about the apparition of Our Lady of Good Success in Quito, in the year 1610. The following statement by Our Lady, especially the last line, made me shiver:

"The Sacrament of Holy Orders will be ridiculed, oppressed, and despised, for in this Sacrament, the Church of God and even God Himself is scorned and despised since He is represented in His priests. The Devil will try to persecute the ministers of the Lord in every possible way; he will labor with cruel and subtle astuteness to deviate them from the spirit of their vocation and will corrupt many of them. These depraved priests, who will scandalise the Christian people, will make the hatred of bad Catholics and the enemies of the Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church fall upon all priests.

This apparent triumph of Satan will bring enormous suffering to the good Pastors of the Church, the many good priests, and the Supreme Pastor and Vicar of Christ on earth, who, a prisoner in the Vatican, will shed secret and bitter tears in the presence of his God and Lord, beseeching light, sanctity and perfection for all the clergy of the world, of whom he is King and Father. Further, in these unhappy times, there will be unbridled luxury which will ensnare the rest into sin and conquer innumerable frivolous souls who will be lost. Innocence will almost no longer be found in children, nor modesty in women.

In that greatest crisis of the Church, the one who is obliged to speak in due time will remain silent!”

Silent? That is what Pope Francis just said, “I will be Silent” after Vigano’s accusation…

Yes, that’s what came to my mind. The context of the crisis described is bad priests giving scandal through impure behaviour, originating from the end of the 19th century throughout the 20th century.
This was said in a Church approved apparition in 1610.

I have posted this recently as well. Yes, I see the correlation. Most here told me it is referencing an earlier time period, but combined with Akita, I can definitely see them reflected in our time.

There is no evidence, to my knowledge that this was said in 1610. The larger quote makes reference to “prisoner in the Vatican”, a phrase used to describe the popes from Pius IX through Pius XI. It also included anachronistic language about the republic of Ecuador, and Masons, which meant nothing in 1610. It almost certainly was written late 1800s, or early 1900s.

Our Lady of Good Success? Traditional Catholicism
Sorry, JM3 but you are mistaken; Our Lady of Good success was indeed approved a long time ago by the Bishop in Quito see below; Quito, Ecuador (1594) Title: Our Lady of Good Success Feast Day: February 2nd Investigated: 1666, 1723 First Apparition: Feb 2, 1594 Approved: Feb 2, 1611 - Bishop Salvador de Riber Last Apparition: Dec 8, 1634 Visionaries: Venerable Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres (31) Number of Apparitions: 4 Miracles & Signs: Blind girl cured at Mariana’s wake; incorruptib…

Yes it is an approved apparition. Here is more

“Thus, I make it known to you that from the end of the 19th century and from shortly after the middle of the 20th century, in what is today the Colony and will then be the Republic of Ecuador, the passions will erupt and there will be a total corruption of customs, for Satan will reign almost completely by means of the Masonic Sects. They will focus principally on the children in order to sustain this general corruption. Woe to the children of these times!“

Sr Mariana has been declared Venerable and her Visions were first approved in 1634 by the Bishop of Quito. The fact that Masons are prophesied makes it even more believable, no?

*I’m not familiar with the prophesies and look forward to learning. Anything to give us hope as we attempt to raise children in these confusing times. @13pollitos “They will focus primarily on children in order to sustain this general corruption. Woe to the children of those times!” 🙏

Here is documentation showing that the Vatican approved of the Canonical Coronation of the Miraculous Statue and the Declaration for the Conceptionist Church to be designated as a Marian Shrine -in 1991. That’s over 350 years for the Church to allow for the apparition to be considered authentic.

A prophecy usually has multiple layers of meaning. For example, when Jesus preached about the end times in Mt 25, he talked both about the destruction of the temple in 70 A.D., and of His Second Coming at the end of times.

The imprisonment of Pius IX’ could have prefigured one or more other “imprisonments” of Popes.

Now, what this approved apparition describes is the following. At one time there will be:
  1. A great crisis because of clergymen giving scandal through their impure behaviour
  2. A Pope “imprisoned” and crying/praying for these same clergymen
  3. The Church being “silent” in these greatest crisis of the Church. (In the original Spanish, it is “the Church” who will be silent).
Now, when I had read this prophecy ten years ago, this would have made no sense. How can the Pope be crying and praying about a problem, while the “Church” is silent about it. But when I read it now it seemed to fit very well:
  1. Abuse scandal in the Church
  2. Pope Benedict during the time of his resignation (and maybe even afterwards)
  3. Silence from the whole hierarchy

lt also included anachronistic language about the republic of Ecuador, and Masons, which meant nothing in 1610.
You mean “anachronistic” like the Fatima apparitions talking about Communism or Pope Pius XI in 1917? Or like the prophecy given to St. Catherine of Labouré about a bishop being killed 50 years afterwards (which happened)? Or like the Old Testament prohecies about a suffering Messias? Or like Jesus’ “anachronistic” prophecies about the destruction of the tempel in 70 AD (the modernist’s favourite argument against the authenticitiy of the gospels).

Yes, the most recent copy of the apparitions is from 1790 and there could have been changes to the original manuscripts. Maybe even the word “masons” was slipped in by some scribe. But there are a lot of true prophecies in these apparitions which people could not have known in 1790. The text as a whole seems to be authentic. And the Church approved these texts.

  • I respect private Revelations approved by the Church, for my personal devotions.
  • Even when approved, private Revelations often contain lots of additional information NOT specifically approved by the Church, let alone interpretations.
  • Every generation regards the Church as going through crisis.
  • Private Revelations are worthless for laity evaluating popes, bishops, and priests, or any other person besides myself.
  • The difference in importance between public Revelation, and approved private Revelation, is enormous. People are forgetting that.

Who says people are forgetting any of what you wrote? That doesn’t mean it is wrong to make note of messages from Our Lady. Especially when they are church approved and correlate with other messages from other time periods. Akita, Fatima, La Salette, and others all contain messages that tie together. It is part of what helps them gain Church approval. They don’t contradict doctrine or other apparitions. No one has forgotten that Public Revelation is massively different that Private Revelations. It is not wrong to spread a message, and it can be very helpful to others to learn about Our Lady and her various visionaries.

I would have said…
“massively more important”…
Otherwise I’m fine with your post.

In the 1950s Bishop Sheen would occasionally refer to Fatima to illustrate some argument he made from Public Revelation. Back then, he could safely assume most Catholics had a thorough knowledge of public Revelation, and misuse of private Revelation was rare.

If he were preaching today, he could not safely make either of those assumptions. I bet he wouldn’t publicly mention private Revelation at all, though maybe still be privately devoted to Fatima. He never foresaw people using private Revelations, or interpretations of such, to evaluate the Magisterium.

If he lived now, he would take that 2018 trend into caution.

Absolutely…and every generation DOES go through an attack on the Faith.

However, what we see today is unprecedented due to many factors. It is true that the attacks today come from both inside and outside the Church. Not only morals, but also doctrine is corrupted. And these factions are being played against each other to distract from the salvation of souls and growth in personal virtue. We need to remember that mis-steps today can INSTANTLY be broadcast throughout the world. Scandal is caused when the perception and reality of error and ambiguities are not clarified.

We need to PRAY (not just discuss) for our Holy Father and the bishops. Only the pope has the authority to address the crisis. He wields the Keys to confirm us in the Faith.

Having read through some of the prophesies of OL Good Success, it’s uncanny how relevant it is for today! Turn to Mary. She has been given the role to crush all heresies. Ask her to give us hearts burning with love for her Son…she will never turn away from her children. Ask her to use our sufferings in reparation for the offenses toward God. Then don’t be stingy about cheerfully sacrificing:-)

Yes I agree, “massively more important” should have been added. I do see the points you make. Not 100% in agreement, but that doesn’t make them less valid. I don’t think anyone is bound to believe any private revelations regardless of where they came from or what they are about, butthey can be VERY helpful and a source of hope for many. The only way they can find or learn about them is if they are told they exist. Do you have recommendations on how to point out these apparitions or mystics without it seeming that we believe they are THE MOST important guides available? How should it be stated so that it is clear that private devotions are only a small piece of information that is to be used in order to draw hope and comfort, or used to help develop a private prayer life or individual penance, or even just to hold onto as a sign of love from above?

My pastor heavily promotes Akita, Quito, and other private Revelations. In his hands, all the excerpts he prints are faithful to the magisterium. He is fully obedient to our bishop, and our Pope, though I am sure the Pope is far more liberal than he or I.

But he sets a risky precedent, in the hands of others private Revelations can be used to say, I don’t need to obey my pastor, or bishop, or Pope, I obey Mary.

Fatima was approved, but most of what I read on internet was not necessarily approved. Just being cautious…

Think of private Revelation as the music in church. It teaches no new truths, but a given hymn may touch the heart of some, not all, and lead them to respond to public Revelation.

But be wary of church musicians who sneak in their own messages in questionable hymns, or make music the most important part of the service. Good music, and good private Revelation, doesn’t get noticed. You see the results in spiritual and corporal works of Mercy.

Gotta believe that this is rare and easily pointed out to be faulty reading of OL’s approved apparitions. The Fatima message specifically asks us to “pray for the Holy Father”. She requested the pope, in union with the bishops, to consecrate Russia to Her Immaculate Heart. (Kind of difficult to use Fatima to disobey legitimate authority. Just point misguided folks to the actual message!)
