Hey everybody Our Lady dedication is today in LaCrosse wisconsin. It is on EWTN at 12:30 wisconsin time central. It had started with lots of stuff on today but goes through Sunday and I believe Father Groeschel will be broadcasting from there. I wanted to get to it but not able to. Must go now so I can tape it.

I visited the shrine while it was under construction. It’s nestled into the cliffs and hills along the Mississippi River. Beautiful location. And it’s in full communion with the shrine in Mexico. Indeed, it was built for those pilgrims who cannot make the trip to Mexico who want to offer petitions and thanks to God through Our Lady’s intercession. We can’t go to the dedication, either, but it’s great that EWTN is carrying the dedication of the main church (there are also chapels, a convent/monastery and outdoor stations of the cross plus a restaurant and gift shop). Anyone who can make the trip will find it a spiritually enriching experience.

I apologize for the spelling of Guadalupe. May she forgive me. I visited last fall and hope to go again. 🙂

We watched some of the dedication on EWTN. The inside of the Shrine Church is lovely, and everything was done with solemnity and great care. We plan on visiting when we can–maybe in the fall. It will be great to see it completely done.

Its a beautiful shrine!

You can watch a video tour of the shrine.

The video is 10 minutes long, but if you want to save time, it doesn’t get inside the shrine until the 2:30 mark. At about 7 minutes the audio goes haywire, but the problem only lasts about 10 seconds.

I’m a bit surprised that the shrine is located in Lacrosse, but then again I guess it makes for a pilgrimage. Perhaps unsurprising is that Archbishop Raymond Burke founded the shrine. He gets things done!

The website for the shrine itself is:

But the number of photos of the completed shrine is disappointing.

Thank you for that video it is really nice. I was there last fall and there was a couple that have a candle lighted each week for a year for their son praying for a safe return from the war. Each one can burn for a week so I did give a donation to light one for a week. I think it is suppose to be the largest candle chapel in the world now. I think but not sure if it will be aired tonight, Father Groeschel will be on EWTN at 6pm central with his visit last friday, at the shrine.

I was there about 4 years ago during construction. While I was there I learned a lot about Our Lady of Guadalupe and loved the story so much that we decided to start planning a trip to Mexico City. Last year we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary by visiting the shrine in Mexico City. It was a worthwhile pilgrimage. Now I am inspired to go back to La Crosse.

La Crosse is a wise choice for the American shrine. It is a beautiful city on the Mighty Mississippi with rolling hills and bluffs. Many German decendants live in the area. Next time the pope visits America maybe he could head for the shrine.

Thank you for the video–it filled in some things that weren’t explained during EWTN’s airing of the consecration last week. 🙂

There’s a film shown at the shrine about why it was built in La Crosse. Of course Archbishop Burke wanted it there, but he also wanted to make it easier for people who can’t make the trip to Mexico to reap the benefits of a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe. It’s certainly within driving distance for us in the Twin Cities, MN, affordable, and closer than any other Marian shrines in the Midwest.
