Los Angeles, Calif., Dec 12, 2014 / 11:52 am (CNA).- More than 25,000 people – including many young people – attended an outdoor Mass in Los Angeles honoring the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Scores of young boys dressed as miniature Juan Diegos and little girls donning multi-colored hair ribbons and traditional Mexican-style dresses marched beside Aztec and Matachines dancers, indigenous drummers, mariachi musicians and everyday Catholics along Cesar Chavez Avenue in East Los Angeles on Dec. 7 during the 83rd annual procession and Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The mile-long morning trek began at the corner of Cesar Chavez and Ford Boulevard, and concluded inside the open-air Weingart Stadium at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, where the celebration of faith, culture and family continued with diverse music, a moving performance by award-winning Mexican singer Miriam Solis, and a Mass with Archbishop José Gomez presiding.

My local parish’s Spanish Mass usually draws in an overflow of people this time of the year.

Our Cathedral here is packed to overflowing every year this entire time. I can’t even get into the local Cathedral. I have to go to mass, elsewhere.

We had an awesome turnout as well, here in the Atlanta area.
I’ve been trying to upload pics, but they keep failing. 😦

That event took place in East Los Angeles. I did not attend the event, but what is interesting are the Catholic churches in that area that have Mary’s name and title. A while back, I’ve noticed that the names of the seven Catholic churches in close proximity to each other in that area are Our Lady of Talpa, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Victory, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Solitude(Soledad), Assumption and St. Mary. Perhaps it has to do with the area’s long time Mexican Catholic population’s devotion to Mary.

Our parish had a wonderful Mariachi Mass for the Virgen de Guadalupe today, follow by a fiesta, of course!
