Really? His first concern would be money?
As for moral high ground, there are many countries in the world that have it bad and could use a “world policeman.” Are we obliged to provide them one? How deeply do we get ourselves involved in the conflicts of the world? Are there any limits to our poking our noses into the affairs of other countries?
Again, the question is if Christ were elected in 2012, what would he do as far as Afganistan and Iraq is concerned?
 
While OP poll of registered voters shows Barack Obama ahead of Romney in swing states, when you look at the more reliable polls done on likely voters by Rasmussen they show Barack Obama ahead of Romney two points, within the margin of error and Bloomberg shows Barack Obama tied with Romney.

Even if the 655,000 figure were true, it would be equal to ONE YEAR of abortions in the US.

Now imagine a Republican president who started a war that killed around 1 million Americans…

every year.

We aren’t the world’s policeman and while the war might not have been unjust, there was no reason for us to have gotten embroiled in one there. 😦
And the million dead might respond “Why didn’t you come sooner”? No there wasn’t any reason for us to become embroiled there, except for the million dead and the fact that Saddam was shooting at allied planes and paying suicide bombers to kill Israelis.

I’m not sure the Lancet numbers were debunked exactly, but they were on very shaky ground and were contradicted by better information.

I recall researching the Lancet figures. Lancet did not actually do a study itself. It relied on a secondary source; a business research firm that normally produces market studies. But it still wasn’t the original source. The business research company had obtained the information from yet a third source. If one researched that third source, it yielded absolutely no information at all.

Well, without him, there likely wouldn’t be either one OR two republics between Mexico and Canada, but a mélange of banana states recolonized by various European powers…

I have been a Newt supporter since he announced.
The man is years ahead of the others, including our current commander in chief, in knowledge and experience in big league politics.
Romney will get my vote, as it looks like he will be the nominee.
Santorum is just not ready to lead. I dont care for his views on somethings and when he told Chris Wallace on Fox that “abortion is abortion” no matter if its rape or incest.
He lost me as a man, and killed himself with most women voters.
Ron Paul is a isolationist that will get us into a shooting war here on our soil for sure.
His policies have no bearing in fact and wish for us to turn our backs on the rest of the world.
No can do.

They do? Maybe in Iraq, but not in Afganistan where tribal rule by warlords is the norm. And I am not so sure that isn’t what is coming into being in Iraq as well.

That wasn’t even true with the Colonies of Franklyn’s time. Less than 1/3rd of the population wanted to separate from the UK.

These people are not literate, live in some of the most isolated places on earth, have no IDEA what our concepts of “freedom” or “democracy” even mean.

When will we stop believing that the entire world is made up of Americans who just haven’t discovered their inner freedom yet???

I am not saying that everyone doesn’t DESERVE freedom, only that many people have NO idea what that means, and they might not choose it for themselves once they understand.

Well, kinda. It was a work in progress that took a lot longer than the 20 years we normally read about in history. And if it wasn’t for France and Spain we would probably still belong to England.

Radical change historically came from one country (e.g., the Romans) conquering another land and imposing their laws. For a number of reasons that doesn’t seem to be in fashion today by Western nations (Mid-East and Eastern nations have no problem with this concept.) Japan and Germany in WWII seem to be the last time a Western state actually did that.
