Oh, thank you for clarifying. I wasn’t aware of that. The catechism says animals don’t have immortal souls. It doesn’t say they don’t have a soul. They have a material soul.

You’ll get more than a pat on the head if any birds, such as NYC pigeons, make it to heaven!Well all I can tell you is my pets owe me big time, all the poop I have picked up over the many years, I ought to get a pat on the head in heaven for that!
My cat doesn’t just think she is God; she KNOWS she is God. Such is my life, that I know better than to correct her…She would justand they are not tempted to think they are God, as we are (except cats).
Animals were never cast out of paradise. Only human were. We need respect all of God’s creation. How we treat animals says much about who we are. The Jewish dietary laws are based, at least in part, on the humane treatment of animals used for food.
“All things bright and beautiful; all creatures great and small; all things wise and wonderful; the Lord God made them all…”
We were given dominion over all the Earth. Humane treatment of God’s creatures is part of our stewardship.
Reminds me of a story I heard about a cockatoo. A journalist (I think it was Ron Saw) wrote that when they were still kids, his brother used to torment the cockatoo by throwing grass clippings at it in it’s cage.Well all I can tell you is my pets owe me big time, all the poop I have picked up over the many years, I ought to get a pat on the head in heaven for that!
Correct them gently, and read the gospel to them
:D
