Outdoor Mass

I find it puzzling that a priest would have to say Mass on an ironing board in a hotel room, when most decent motel rooms at least provide a desk of some sort. Honestly… is an ironing board the best “table” to be found?

I think Redemptionis Sacramentum n. 108 makes it quite clear that a bishop and not a priest determines what places are “decent” enough for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

The ironing board could be moved to “face Rome” as the saying goes. It can also be made higher or lower for the comfort of the priest. Once the temporary altar is properly adorned no one in the room would know it was a lowly ironing board.
 
And as soon as mass was over you could iron the altar linens right then and there!! 😃

A desk could probably be turned to face east if the priest was that particular; and I would suppose if a priest preferred to face geographical east, he would choose a desk over an ironing board. Just my guess.

First of all, what is being under attack is the manner in which the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is being celebrated. No one has the right to abrogate Canon Law or any of the Church’s regulatory documents on the Liturgy for the sake of convenience.

Please stop twisting the arguemnt and putting a spin into it where it doesn’t even exist. It is sad that one has to resort to throwing things that are not even germaine to the discussion at hand and not even cite appropriate Church documentation to support a very weak position. Deceptively portraying this discussion as “prirest bashing” is uncharitable and is dishonest. I would expect that from politicians but not from people wanting to have a mature and adult debate on the matter.
