We are fortunate to have groups like this site:
  • they are a magnet for the truely hateful, which keeps them from poisoning our well (they can’t help but poison the well they are in so let them poison each other)
  • Big brother can track them, and gather evidence

I’ve been reading this site over the last few days and its frightened me out of my wits to be frank: outsidethecamp.org/
Not being a mind reader, I have no way of knowing what your grave concerns are about this.
I’m not going to write a book about all the things that concern me about it.
You and I may have different concerns.

In order to open up discussion for all here, you may want to at least point out the parts you feel are worthy to consider.

I glanced through the site.

This man, because it is probably a man, although who knows, does for Christianity what Osama Bin Laden does for Islam.

As a matter of fact, they sound very much alike.:slapfight:

SHUDDER.

Well basically I’m wondering: Is their interpretation of the Gospel true? Is their view of God (which states that God actively decreed evil to happen) true ?

For instance Mr. Carpenter writes the following:
God does not permit evil; He decrees and causes evil. And He does it for His own glory. He caused sin to come into the world in order to (1) glorify Himself in the salvation of the elect, (2) humble His people and cause them to continually need the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and (3) glorify Himself in the damnation of the reprobate.
I find that the implications of that idea horrific as if its true it means that God cannot be all good.

Your answer is right there in the New Testament.

a) God wills that all men be saved.
b) Evil prevents that salvation, and is thus something that thwarts and hinders rather than furthering His divine will.
c) God, being neither schizophrenic nor otherwise insane or fallible, doesn’t actively decree things that thwart His will, but only those that bring about His will. Therefore

d) God doesn’t actively decree evil, although (as we see in the case of Job) He passively permits it, at times purely so that a greater good may come about as a result, as it did in Job’s case by strengthening Job’s own faith and those of the generations after which have read Job’s story.

Depends. God actively decreed Free Will, and evil is a side effect of the freedom of choice. Did he himself decree evil, no. Did he allow it to come into existence, yes, through the act of allowing Free Will.

I don’t think I can add more than Nine Two did here. As a non believer, I can not comment on the basis for testing truthiness of interpretation of a document or a unbroken chain of traditions or combinations with some of both or both.

My questions would be these:

What is the Knowledge source?
What is the correction method? (this is where interpretation comes into it)
Primary selection method?
Reasoning method?
Verification method?
Authentication method?
Central tenants?
Research methods?

I am sure that if one asks these honest questions, they will find an answer sooner than later.

I think I’ll go hold my head under the cold water tap now. Just until the:banghead: steam stops shooting out of my ears.:ouch:

Because they have no anchor and no authority, Protestant groups often run amuck like this “Outside the Camp” group. But that’s the consequence of Sola Scriptura and private interpretation. They are only one of many similar Protestant sects. They are interpreting Scripture for themselves, which Luther empowered them to do.

Are you saying that scripture teaches what these guys say?

Plus, I’ve met some pretty wild Catholics on this forum who would make this Outside the Camp group look orthodox by comparison. :whacky:
