P.S. don’t you just hate those ol’ hormones sometimes? Try to stay away from sugar, caffiene and salt when you are feeling this way.
I’m sorry about your husband, I haven’t been on this list long enough to know what’s happening there, but I will be sure to pray for your marriage. God bless you~

It will be much better when the days get longer, PLUS I am plain miserably sick with my 7 year old today. I am not very smart as I volunteered to ring a bell for the SA, and the other day it was 5-10 above. Froze my buttock off and got a cold.

Lisa, for the women who can handle more children more power to them. If I had a more stable relationship with my husband I would probably have more.
Sorry, I am over sensitive today.

The belt thing… 😦

I completelty understand…MEN:D God Bless, and you have a great day and I hope you guys feel better

Ok, I guess I can have my own rant now. I hate when people with only one child make excuses for them because they won’t share, their selfish ect. “After all, he/she is an only child.” My daughter is an only child she’s great at compromising, sharing and is a very generous little girl. (Can’t tell I’m a proud mom?)

I hope Scott is kidding on the belt thing. My husbands father used a belt on him 😦 . It was a very ugly situation all around. This hands for loving thing just makes me laugh (sorry Scott). I was swatted as a child (I mean a quick swat to let me know my dad meant business), I never though some how his hands weren’t "loving.😉

I remember as a child I crossed the street with a neighbor boy without permission and his grandpa saw us. He was really mad. He told me my parents should take a belt to me. I was horrified, I didn’t know people actually still did that! The only time I’d ever seen that was on Little House on the Prarie (usually a mean drunk father too.)

I have something etched in my memory. When I was about 10 or 11 I was at a friends house. Her little brother ( a couple years younger) kept bugging us. So my friend went and told her dad. Well this guy to off his belt, yanked this boy into his bed room (right next to my friends) and proceeded to beat this kid. I still remember his begging and cries like a tape in my head. My stomach gets tight just thinking about it.

I will probably spank my son when he’s really bad, because my parents did it. I was agonizing over it, but my friend laughed at me and said “Oh, don’t waste time worrying about it. You’ll spank him. And you’ll do it when you’re angry and you’ll feel rotten.”

I suppose she’s right.

A quick swat with the hand is probably needed sometimes when a little kid doesn’t listen, but these days you can’t do that in public. You can’t do a “time-out” in public very well, either. So, I predict bad behavior in public…

One time, I was waiting on this sweet little old granny type who was there with a two or three-year-old boy. He was being very whiney and crying. They went to the restroom. He sat quietly with his hands in his lap and looked much subdued. His granny said “That’s because I took him to the bathroom and tore his butt up!”

There was no doubt that granny loved the little boy, and I don’t think she enjoys tearing up butts, and it DID seem to produce results.

Frankly, I don’t think I ever felt unloved when my parents spanked me. I felt mad or sad or whatever, but I never felt frightened or emotionally hurt.

Oh my God! What a horrible fate, for a child to know that their parents think the sun rises and sets on them!!!

My mother thought I was dirt and treated me like same…and I was an only child.

Hello all 🙂

My fiance sent me an article saying summarized, that Catholics are going to “outbreed” sorry for that word, the ones who are contracepting and aborting. So the liberals who are Pro-Choice, Pro-Birth Control, etc. are just going to contracept and abort themselves into very small populations. I never thought of it that way, and just thought it was kind of interesting.

I have two children, who I intend to raise as good Catholics and kind people…all of us who try to parent children into good adults are truly helping the future of this country.

Take Care,

Leah

Although I think the subject of “to spank or not to spank” is a bit off topic, I’ll add my two cents. I got into it with a lady at work one time who was horrified over the idea of spanking. Short version of my opinion is if you don’t know the difference between spanking and beating you shouldn’t be doing it. But if you can tell the difference between discipline and abuse, then by all means, spank! We do. It seems less than effective with my youngest though, (who laughs afterwards) so we have changed to more of denying him everything he wants for periods of time (yeah, Dr. Ray!).

Spanking teaches children that adults (usually their parents) get angry and hit them.

There were five of us kids growing up, and we were all spanked at one time or other. Amazingly, I never seem to have learned the lesson that adults hit kids. I learned that if you did something you knew was wrong, there were consequences. And none of us grew up to be child beaters.

Abuse teaches that and there is a difference. Spanking, swatting, slapping ect. for every minor offense becomes not only ineffective but abusive. Spanking out of frustration, irratation or just because one is tired and doesn’t want to deal with proper discipline falls in the same category.

Used sparingly for more serious offenses that need an immediate response shows there are definate consequences for inappropriate behavior.

I’m too busy taking care of my own kids to mind other people’s business when it comes to whether or not they’re “over parenting” – whatever that means-- theirs.
