It’s your father’s job to raise her, not yours. I’d tell him you’re leaving the room so as not to make a bad situation worse and to give him the opportunity to correct his daughter in private. 😉

Fair enough ^^ 👍

Sounds like what you should be doing is praying for her, inviting her to come with you to confession and to mass, and getting to know your nephew. He is going to need you in his life.

Judging her, “correcting” her, giving her the silent treatment - you know what these things are doing to you spiritually. Stop doing them. Forgive her and love her. That is the best thing that you could possibly do - for both of you.

Hi
I just wanted to add my tuppence worth:D

firstly, congratulations, auntie!!

secondly, in 2 months time you are to be married, and god willing, in time you will be a mother yourself. By living a godly life, you set an example not only for your sister, but your little nephew too. In this way, you will be helping them.

I’m a big sister, I’m a lapsed catholic, slowly taking baby steps back. I’ve been in your sisters situation, and agree with all the posters who say she is in for a rough time, pray for her, and her son, and be ready, when things get tough, she may ask you for help - pray with her!!!

The previous poster, who commented that its is a fathers role to educate, not yours is also correct, IMO. Don’t cut her off, treat her so gently just now, having a child may bring home to her just how far she has gone from the faith.
Theres never been anyone who could pull my heart strings like my sis could. We’re not close, but we are sisters, and whether I like her or not, god gave her to me (well, mum and dad!) 👍

Well, this is not a easy question nor a easy answer is going to be presented. You stated you “Covet” what she has. When you discovered what it was you tried to change that aspect of yourself. Next, you also made a statement of how she can be rude at little things. Now, you want a relationship with you “sister”. Mostly because it was you who was in the wrong, in the current relationship. So let me get this straight, your sister and you have very little ties, due to you. Your willing to change and try and make a stronger relationship, and try to let bye gones be bye gones. It’s been my understanding a relationship has two parts, their part and your part. If your willing to try and make a go about it, your sister has to feel the same way and do in kind. One person in a two person situation can not make and change everything around them. Just take some time and do what needs to be done on your part to ensure that you’ve done everything you can do to make a relationship worth having. Time is the true answer, people need to know what they have before it’s gone, hopefully your sister will see that and come around. It’s not just you that has a problem, It’s her too. The only difference is your correcting your problem.

This is all very true. I know that she might not be willing to work on a relationship with me, but if we end up not having a great relationship, I don’t want it to be because of me, so I’ll try… but you’re right, she has problems, too, that she needs to correct… I hope they’re mainly maturity issues, and that, given time, she’ll ‘grow up’ enough so we can have an adult relationship. 👍

I have a very similar problem with my sister in law who at one time I was very close to… Don’t try to teach right from wrong…she won’t listen and she’ll become resentful…at first, her lifestyle bothered me so much but than I just started to not talk to her as much…when we saw eachother at parties, we were very nice to eachother, but nothing deep…over time, our relationship became casual and I stopped judging her…it took time to get to this point…
